I think I pull back the sheets. Slip under the covers and pull them up snug. Your warmth is comforting, a change from the frosty bed I have grown accustomed to All is still now. I hear nothing, save, your calm, sweet breaths. Pulling myself closer to you, I cannot resist reaching out to stroke your hair. My fingers glide through your locks. Nevertheless, I am not satisfied. Ever so softly, I caress your soft cheek with the side of my little finger, again and again and again… Quietly, I indulge in watching you sleep so as not to wake you from your blissful slumber I cannot get enough of you, like this, So peaceful and serene. My heart is content. I have seen an angel tonight, with her wings tucked safely away. My youngest baby, safe, sleeping in Mama’s bed… She is resting easy. Tomorrow, she will be ready to take on a new day. |
