History confirms the Bible: Fall of Roman Empire part 2 of 6

Continuing on to part 2 of 6 from my previous post 1 of 6 on the subject, we have the following set up and historical account, followed by verse in the Bible, then followed up by my own personal note.

Regarding the invasions of the barbarian tribe of the the Vandals, lead by Genseric, against that divisional 1/3 of the Roman Empire ruled by Constans, namely Africa and Italy, etc. The time period will thus be from AD 428-AD 426. Once again, noted historian Edward Gibbon (1737-1794) writes as follows:

'The discovery and conquest of the black nations [in Africa], that might dwell beneath the torrid zone, could not tempt the rational ambition of Genseric; but he cast his eyes towards the sea; he resolved to create a naval power, and his bold resolution was executed with steady and active perseverance. [5] From the port of Carthage he repeatedly made piratical sallies, preyed on the Roman commerce, and waged war with that empire. To cope with this sea monarch, the Roman emperor, Majorian, made extensive naval preparations. ....The kingdom of Italy, a name to which the Western Empire was gradually reduced, was afflicted, under the reign of Ricimer, by the incessant depredations of the Vandal pirates. In the spring of each year, they equipped a formidable navy in the port of Carthage; and Genseric himself, though in a very advanced age, still commanded in person the most important expeditions. ...'

Revelation 8:
8 And the second angel sounded, and as it were a great mountain burning with fire was cast into the sea: and the third part of the sea became blood;
9 and the third part of the creatures which were in the sea,
and had life, died; and the third part of the ships were destroyed.

Personal note: This is the sounding of the 2nd of the 7 Trumpets. Once again the Roman Empire was THE premier "universal" power of her day in Europe and the Mediterranean, as it goes for recorded history. Since bible verse here refers again to 1/3 parts, it only imparts reference to 'creatures' in that context, meaning soldiers or people of, or associated with, the Roman rule, not literal sea creatures etc. Note coin face below or Siliqua of Genseric.

The English language also has a fair amount of barbarian dialect, but not as much as the latin. Thus, as the Roman Empire declined, the Papacy sprung up just the same.
