Pope Francis attacks diseases of Vatican bureaucracy in his Curia address.

Pope Francis slammed Vatican bureaucracy in his blistering unleashed criticism of illnesses ranging from disease of feeling immortal to vainglory and excessive planning, in his annual Curia address of the Vatican bureaucracy this Monday. He said that a church that does not try to improve is like a sick body. Here are few points from his address.

* He suggested that the Vatican bureaucracy have a catalogue of their illnesses starting from a feeling that they are indispensable and immortal.
* He dealt about the pathology of power, that could make one feel superior to others and not here to be of service of others.
* The human procedural machines can not be men of God as they lose human sensitivity.
* He referred to the disease of excessive planning and functionalism, can make them lose memory of their encounter with God.
* He came down heavily on the disease of gossip and equated it to terrorism.
* He dwelled at length the issue of abuse scandal that rocked catholic church referring it as the disease of closeness, equating it to cancer.
* He warned against the disease of mundane exhibitionism, saying in leads to calumny, discrediting others and defame.
* He said such diseases are temptations and dangerous to for each Christian and Curia
* He said we have to cure ourselves of these and gave a call to grow together and close to the Christ.
Veteran Vatican watchers attribute this criticism after Pope Francis started reforms that is encountering growing opposition from Church with some conservative Bishops, cardinals and priests who are against his approach to remarried and divorced people and homosexuals.

A cursory look at the points raised by Pope Francis makes one to conclude that these illness are spreading like malignancies in every religion, with those at helm of management of religious bodies thinking that they are above every one, imposing all sort of restrictions on followers, that makes life miserable for visitors. I know personally of the travails the ardent devotees of Hindu holy places face during their visits to temples and Gurujis to worship and offer prayers, the way they are exploited, at times literally robbed. There is a lot for every religion to take a leaf or two from what Pope pondered over.

IT IS INDEED A CANDID TALK. Well done Pope Francis.
