Make your voice heard !!!!! never back down !!!

We all go on the internet ...blog away...post tweets...sign online petitions and somehow end every injustice that this world has ever known.

Social activism in fact is pretty much on the rise ....now it has taken over and its raised my sceptical eyebrows

Please don't get me wrong there are many virtues in using online platforms to raise awareness or to discuss social issues, but is clicking on links the best we can do, ??? are we really helping at all???

Every day we pray for Gaza and plead with Boko Haram to bring back the girls, ...

Nobel as this is, it's always effective. Telling your online friends to pray for gaza instead of getting on your knees, and actually praying for gaza ism in my humble opinion, useless. It makes me wonder if social activists really care. Would they be willing to donate their hard earned cash to support causes that they champion online, or are all the hashtags just for show???

Heres a great example of an absolutely wonderful but largely useless piece of social activism,

When Brazilian soccer Dani Alves had a banana thrown at him during a match, he boldly took a stance against racism by eating the banana right there and then.

This act was followed by other footballers (of all races) taking to social media to post pictures of themselves also eating the bananas, accompanied by the hashtag:

"SAY NO TO RACISM"

I believe that when used well, facebook, twitter, tumbir and other social networking sites are great platflorms to educate people on the wrongs of racism, xenophobia , homophobia , sexism and the like.

They are also great platform for debates, and for educating people about important issues facing the world.

What's important is for us to bear in mind that just because somebody is not tweeting about the latest natural disaster, it doesn't mean that your work there is done.

Sometimes we need to do more, sometimes we need to get up and actually make a difference. So next time, someone riles you up, go show your face at a protest or a charity event.

Don't limit your voice to cyberspace and your activism might become just active.
