Hello, I just found this site, so this introduction is being quickly written now just so I can get started and meet some of you. If past experience is any indication, once we meet and if we "click," I might tell you more about myself than I had ever dreamed. And if you feel comfortable telling me about what's important in your life, all the better!
I'm a single woman (previously married), and I live in a beautiful rural area of Wisconsin. The nearest large city is Milwaukee, and that's where I work in a small business I own. Although I can be comfortable enough spending some time alone, I've learned more and more to treasure and nurture friendships. Through the internet, I've found wonderful new friends -- some many thousands of miles away, and some close to my home. With this group of 'net friends, I guess I've experienced just about every kind of human emotion, and I've certainly learned a lot about the world and myself in the process.
It amazes me how so many of us scurry around in our "real" lives, never getting to know much about so many people we come in contact with. One of my reas for coming here is to possibly meet and get to know some people "in my own backyard," so to speak. So many times I've said to a dear 'net friend that I wish we could meet for lunch, or over a cup of coffee or whatever in my home. Maybe someday that will happen.
What else can I tell you about myself? Well, I'm sort of a renaissance wanna-be in a world so full of information and wonders that it's impossible to keep up with everything I'd like to know more about. I was raised Catholic and still have great respect for many of the moral and ethical less I learned from my parents and teachers. However, because I don't believe in all of that religion's teachings, I don't consider myself a practitioner of that religion, or of any particular religion for that matter. Politically, I'm more of a "small l" libertarian than anything else. It's a philosophy I'm relatively comfortable with -- people should be free to make their own decisions and lead their own lives, so long as they don't le on anyone else's rights doing it.
Especially this past year, and often through my relationships with others, I've gotten to learn more about myself. I've learned to embrace some passionate feelings that I'd kept suppressed for years. Along with that, I've probably experienced more positive growth than at any other time in my life. Some of this growth has come after I've messed up and made mistakes. But I'm learning more and more how to dust off my behind, make note of the les to be learned, and move on.
So, what do you think about my first attempt at introducing myself here? If I sound like someone you'd like to get to know better, I'd be pleased to hear from you and about you!
My Ideal Person
One of the greatest gifts I ever received was learning how to give away little pieces of my heart to others, and realizing that by doing so, my own heart would only grow bigger and stronger. Along with that I've learned the value of a friend who will "hold up a mirror" for me to look into when I need that -- whether it's to acknowledge something good about myself or to see something unpleasant that I need to change.
I welcome the opportunity to make new friends who feel the same way.
