After patching up all my little friend's imaginary injuries, giving them pretend shots with popsicle sticks, and taking care of every injured animal that came along, I knew my path was headed to nursing. Now I’m the Merck manual for family and friends. Being ever curious and ready for something new, I moved on to market research and I got to ask questions, and find out how people think. These days I wake up with ideas spinning in my head for new pieces of jewelry that I want to design. I also get as much satisfaction out of the challenge of fixing a friend’s computer, designing a house, or understanding the WSJ.
While appreciating the finer things that I’ve been blessed to have, I live an unpretentious life style. My house sits on 30 acres in the woods and I love the peace and solitude, and yet life here is full of the unexpected. Surprising a beady eyed opossum in the garage, sleeping for 3 days after taking the dog's medicine by mistake, or even in a moment of creative craziness painting the kitchen purple. It is much classier now.
After a long marriage I’m enjoying my independence, but there are so many things that are best enjoyed in a loving long term relationship. Have you ever seen the view from the top of the 310 ft, 92mph Millennium Force at Cedar Point? I haven’t because I had my eyes closed, but my grandchildren thought having me along was special.
I realize that dating as a senior is not much different than dating when I was 16: Who gets in touch, what should I wear, will we click, what about the goodnight kiss, but I also know a lot more about relationships and what it takes to make them work.
If you need a co-pilot for life’s adventures, I can read a road map better than Rand McNally, and you won’t have to stop and ask directions. If you bring along a kind heart, a free spirit, a warm embrace, and one red rose, I'll accept.
