This is what I read today on my Yahoo news :

A minor academic debate among astronomers is the final fate of the earth. As the sun ages and enters the red giant stage of its life, it will heat up, making the earth inhospitable. It will also expand, driven by helium fusion so that its outer layers reach past the earth's current orbit. Previously it had been believed that the sun would lose enough mass to allow earth to escape to a more distant orbit, lifeless but intact. However, new calculations, which take into account tidal forces and drag from mass shed by the sun, suggest that the earth will have sufficiently slowed in that time to be dragged down to its utter destruction in 7.6 billion years.

But don't despair! A second piece of news from Feb 21 is coming !

After decades of studying the climate conditions of Mars, scientists have recently made a breakthrough observation: a substantional amount of ephemeral(short lived) water ice in the polar regions of Mars was found. We now know that Mars' seasonal polar caps are 99% CO2 ice. Finding water on Mars makes the potential for past or even future life on Mars much better.

Happy now ? Are you ready to become Martians ?

The pic I googled for you is called "Does water still flow on Mars?". Water cannot remain a liquid for long because of subzero surface temperatures and low atmospheric pressure that would turn water into ice or gas.But some studies have pointed to the possibility of liquid water flowing briefly on the surface through a possible underground water source that periodically shoots up.

I processed this information before writing it down here to become easy enough to be understood even by ME ! Do you know the joke about the professor who explained, and explained and explained a physical law to his students until he finally understood it !!!

Have a happy rest of the week !

Winter Is Over ?.... Feb 21, 2008 8:18 am

Yipeee, 11*C/50*F today and reaching up to 20*C/60*F next week !

Mellow glowing sun, no sign of chilly fog and wind, and the sea grinning in a happy smile ! Children and dogs running on the sand, holders of seaside cafeterias cleaning windows and painting the woodwork, seagulls croaking wistfully, magpies wisely perching on the still bare tree boughs as if they have never left there.

Soon everything will be glossy and colourful - new leaf shoots, fresh grass and flowers, roofs lit in morning sunlight, variegated women's clothes. Colours, colours, colours !
Colours different from grey.

The picture I've posted for you shows the place where I sunbathe. Come summer, come !

The Finalists for the N7W: Sydney Opera House(1954 - 73) Sydney, Australia Feb 19, 2008 4:53 am

The Sydney Opera House is located in Sydney, New South Wales, Australia, ovelooking the harbour. It was made a UNESCO World Heritage Site on 28 June 2007.When it was finished in 1973, this landmark building - in the true sense of the expression, - put the whole continent of Australia on the world map.

This building does not imitate or reflect what we generally imagine an opera house might look like, indeed, it is a completely abstract interpretation. The ability to create abstract art only developed after the invention of photography in the late 19th century, when painters first began to experiment with an abstract, cubist interpretation of reality.

Sydney Opera House must be one of the most recognisable images of the modern world - up there with the Eiffel Tower and the Empire State Building - and one of the most photographed. Although only having been open since 1973, it is as representative of Australia as the pyramids are of Egypt and the Colosseum of Rome. That's why it's called Australia's culture poral.

Ironic, perhaps, that this Australian icon - the Opera House with a roof evocative of a ship at full sail - was designed by renowned Danish architect - Jorn Utzon, who won the competition for the building of the opera. The Sydney Opera House cost some $160 million to build and was paid for by the public who bought $10 tickets in a series of lotteries with a first prize of $1 million.

As well as many touring theatre, ballet, and musical productions, the Opera House is the home of Opera Australia, the Sydney Theatre Company and the Sydney Symphony.

This is about Sydney Opera House, my friends.

And today I watched a documentary about Taj Mahal, one of the N7W I posted about. The new that I learned about it is that shah Djahan's idea was to make a replica of the Gardens of Paradise and the divine Throne of God through this exquisite building complex, thus rivalring the beauty of nature and God himself. And although he built Taj Magal to commemorate his great love to his deceased wife, Mumtaz Mahal, he died later of a Viagra overdose....

Have a nice week, blog fellows, and watch out what and how much you're wishing for, guys !

Love to all,
SL

...since I stopped smoking !

I breathe freely, my heart pangs have gone, and my face looks fresher !

And I wouldn't have accomplished this without your mighty support which encouraged me, assisted me with suggestions, motivated me and obliged me, dear friends, he-he ! So it's a team achievement, not only mine !

THANK YOU AGAIN !

Anyone wants to join me in a non-smoking marathon? The more, the stronger...

I will report again next month on this date...
If you don't hear from me on the topic, that means I've given the fight up....

Today I came upon a thought which I think is worth sharing with you:

"Strive harder, dream big and love more...that will save you from despair".

The ending after the dots is mine, lol.

Well, that's my message to you for today !
Make your weekend a cosy one, regardless of the weather !

Love and gratitude,

We are in for minus temperatures again from tomorrow but it is sunny today with us. Just as the doctor ordered for this special day !

So, I'm going to the sea to play a game with the waves - whether I'll manage to snatch a seashell from its waves before they fill in my trainers!

HAPPY VALENTINE'S DAY, BLOGFELLOWS, SINGLE AND COUPLES !

Be smiling as a sunny day, in love with life as the wind, and with sparkling spirit as fine wine !

Love, hugs and kisses from me,
