More about Brazil - Iguacu Falls, the Big Water(1) Mar 5, 2008 1:45 pm

Hi dear friends,

Today my elder e-mailed me more pictures of Brazil and I can't keep the beauty of Iguacu/Iguassu/Iguazu Falls, take whichever name you like, only to me. So, I'm sharing with you in two posts 2 of the pics he's taken. I still can't put pics in the post itself, otherwise I would show you more.

I copied some information about the falls for you.

The Iguassu Falls are an unforgettable spectacle being one of the largest group of falls in the world. They are located on the border between Argentina and Brazil, and the city of Foz do Iguassu borders with Paraguay. The falls have the shape of a horseshoe, are 2,7 km wide and 72 meters high. The number of falls vary from 150 to 275, depending on the amount of rain in the area. The falls are surrounded by a National Park with one of the best preserved native forests in the country.

Enjoy! Hope your day has been good and may the rest of the week is even better for you !

Thank you, all these 20 bloggers that shared my Bulgarian tradition of Grandma March and the reviving of nature ! I'm sure that the martenitsas that are garnishing your wrists now will keep you healthy for the whole spring !

Love,
SL

Visiting the Falls is the highlight of your trip to Brazil. You can walk along the raised walkways to the edge of the falls to have amazing views and take great pictures, go on a boat trip that will take you to the base of the falls and fly in a helicopter to appreciate the falls from the top. You can also visit the Itaipu Dam and enjoy the nightlife in Foz. Adventure Sports such as Rappel and Rafting in the Falls are also available.

Aaah, let's our imagination trip !

We had 20+*C/70+*F yesterday and people were in T-shirts . Well, it's 10* lower today, but the light of the spring is already in my heart, and its smile - in my eyes !

Wishing all of you sunny days ahead !

PS. Hmmm, do you know what came to my mind ? Tomorrow I'll change my pics, so you can view more !!!!
Ain't I smarty !

With love,

HAPPY FIRST OF MARCH !!! Mar 1, 2006 3:05 pm

HALLO DEAR FRIENDS!

IT'S A DAZZLINGLY SUNNY DAY TODAY - more than 15*C in Bourgas and the sparrows are getting my blood crazy with their happy chirp!!!
It's 1st March and I want to congratulate you with our Bulgarian holiday Grandmother March, wishing much health, happiness and luck to AAAALL OF YOU !!!

I've downloaded information from Google
about this holiday of ours for you and will be happy if you step by and get acquainted with this ancient Bulgarian tradition.

THANK YOU, HAVE FUN, AND YOU MAY TAKE AS MANY MARTENITSI AS YOU WANT TO PUT ON YOUR CLOTHES AND ROUND YOUR WRISTS AS A TOKEN OF HEALTH!!!
LOVE,
SUNLOVER

On the first day of March, Bulgarians present to relatives and friends martenitsa - a double red and white twisted thread - to bring them health and happiness, and congratulate each other with "Happy Grandma Marta"(Marta comes from the word for March (Mart) in Bulgarian.
This ancient(pagan)Bulgarian tradition,
our most intrinsic holiday, symbolizes the end of the winter and expresses anticipation of warmer weather, fertility and well-being.The red and white colour symbolize the blood and the snow, the health and the happiness. In the traditional martenitsa, womenfolk might entwine coins for well-being, ears of wheat for fertility,a four-
leaved clover for happiness,beads and
hairs of horsetail against evil forces.
Children wear martenitsas on the right wrist, around the neck or on the breast, women
wear it around the neck or woven into their hair.Men tie the martenitsa round their left wrist. Domestic animals, even the handles of the doors and vines are decorated with this token of health and fertility.
People wear martenitsa until they see the first stork, crane or swallow returning from the South, which means that spring has really come. Then they tie it on a blossoming fruit tree, make a wish and hope that it will come true.

THAT'S ABOUT 1ST MARCH! TAKE A MARTENITSA,
GRACE YOURSELF WITH IT, WEAR IT FOR HEALTH AND LUCK,THEN MAKE A WISH !IT WILL HAPPEN!!

Hiya dear friends !

My elder son came back yesterday from his 3-week holiday in Brazil and I want to share with you some of the pics he e-mailed me.

This series is from the annual carnaval in Rio de Janeiro where samba dance schools present themselves. He told me that each of the platforms had an ecological topic.

The pic on this post is the statue of Christ the Redeemer, the 3d in order of the New Wonders of the World, but now taken from a close distance by my son.

Enjoy !

Love,
SL
