The Great Wall of China Dec 29, 2007 4:09 pm

The Great Wall of China (220 B.C and 1368 - 1644 A.D.) was built to link existing fortifications into a united defense system and better keep invading Mongol tribes out of China. It is the largest man-made monument ever to have been built and it is disputed that it is the only one visible from space. Many thousands of people must have given their lives to build this colossal construction.

Has any of you stepped on it ? This should be a thrilling experience.

The New Seven Wonders of the World Dec 29, 2007 3:55 pm

Tonight's TV news made me read the Saturday December 29, 2007 Time magazine online and I'm sharing it with you.

Natuaral sites are announced for the world heritage list as the N7W of the world. The final tally produced this list of world's top human-built wonders :

1. The Great Wall of China
2. Petra in Jordan
3. Brazil's Statue of Christ the Redeemer
4. Peru's Machu Picchu
5. Mexico's Chichen Itza Pyramid
6. The colloseum in Rome
7. India's Taj Mahal

To be considered for the competition, all structures had to be built or discovered before 2000. All are among top tourist attractions around the world.

Isn't it wonderful that besides known as the only species on Earth that kill each other, we can build wonders ?

I will try to post for you information about each of the new wonders.

HAPPY NEW YEAR !
PEACE IN YOUR HEARTS AND ON OUR PLANET !

This and that, and MERRY CHRISTMAS ! Dec 20, 2007 10:16 am

Hallo my blog fellows !

The sun finally managed to poke through the clouds, that are like the bottom of a black pan over our heads, grrr, and reanimated my heart a bit. Gee, only 4.30pm and it's getting dark. And only 1*C/32*F outside. But I have my logfire in my stove and I love its warmth and crackle.

I miss the bright daylight, my walks in the fragrant fresh air, the sun, the beach, the hug of the sea...No, no, I'm not going to write a gloomy post, not before X-mas.

How are you doing, friends ? I'm having a private or two a day at home, am tending to my dimentia mum, and in the evening, in the solitary silence of my room, I'm watching Christmas comedy films intended to boost a holiday mood, specially to those that don't have any, lol. I like them, do you ? I've watched some of them but I still like them. They emit goodness and well-whishing that we don't always get in life. And I feel a child again back in the land of the fairy tales. It may be naive. I'm naive.

And I finally trimmed my X-mas tree and decorated
my home with garlands, X-mas bells, and blah, blah... I hadn't trimmed a real X-mas tree since my sons left home to fight Life, the Dragon, and now they are gathering again for the holiday, I'm happy to do it. I only pray that the roads are dry on Sunday because they're coming from Sofia to Bourgas by bus which is 400km distance. Children never listen, don't they ? I begged them to come by train...

We, Bulgarians, usually have stuffed pig or turkey for Christmas, but I'll cook stuffed chicken because it's not that expensive, lol...Oh, and stuffed cabbage leaves and a pumpkin pie, of course, that's traditional, too. So, on Saturady and Sunday there will be a delicious smell around my blog ...

Today I tried again to sort out my books, papers, and notes reminding me what has to be done next, stacked in little piles around me. I can never have that strictly orderly home, the kind of a pharmacy, you know, and sometimes I get annoyed with myself. But I'm giving it up. Well, I told myself with a smile, this is proof that I'm still on the go, and my spirit is still alive.

And here is my Christmas wish to you all :

MERRY CHRISTMAS ! BE ALWAYS ON THE MOVE !

Love from me to you,
SL

Walking Downtown Dec 8, 2007 1:58 pm

There are dreams that remain unrealized in our lifespan even if we try. And there are dreams that smash us and almost kill us when they turn into reality. It would be a great skill achieved if we learn to take life as it comes....Guess in the Bible this is called humbleness. I think it is a way to survival. What do you think ?

These were my thoughts this evening while I was walking downtown, watching the merrily decorated main street with twinkling lights, sparkling electrical Christmas trees and listening to the carols streaming through the loudspeakers.

Enjoy the rest of your weekend and a happy Christmas mood !

Happy Christmas December !!!!!!! Dec 1, 2007 4:08 pm

Wow, finally Christmas began to be mentioned on our TV! And we have a brand new Christmas decoration for our capital city, Sofia,...a donation from Vienna, Austria, can you imagine?...Our poor, poor statesmen, how poor they are ...And it was said that the first
Christmas trees are on their way from the forests to the market, yet, I still haven't seen any. While so many of you on the blogs commented they have already decorated theirs. Poor, poor Bulgaria, still poorer in the EU...

The nice thing about our sons in Bulgaria is that from next year we will already have a professional army and our boys will no more experience disregarding attitude and malnutrition while fulfilling their military national service, compulsory by now.

And it has been 4 years since my sons couldn't spend Christmas together at home because they alternately had to work abroad for "better life". Now this will happen. And I'm a happy mother.

Happy Christmas month to all ! Enjoy the anticipation and the preparation !

I was thinking what's the point of some site members in putting photos from their younger age on their profiles...After all, if they find a date, the reason they are on such kind of sites, they will have to reveal their real face, won't they? ...I don't see the point of games in human relationships at all...It only and inevitably leads to frustration ...

I'm writing this because I realized that my profile and blog photo is from summer 2006 which is a year and a half ago. So I decided to update my photo and chose a pic from September 15,2007 - school opening day in Bulgaria. A day on which I was happily among my students again,...for the last time...Because this was my day of retiring from state teaching service, too.

Yes, I took an early retirement this year. The reason I haven't commented this here by now is that I'm still a bit scared by this decision of mine, and don't know how I'll feel in future, you know, social isolation, etc...
But at least for now I enjoy getting up late in the morning, not going to work in the cold and being a master of my time !

Well, blog fellows, enjoy your weekend and the thought of the coming holidays !

SL

Tonight I was at Edward Grieg's, the greatest Norway's composer, 100th anniversary concert. Something pleasant for these recent days, besides reading your posts...

It was happy music, giving you the sense of flight over spacy land and the flow of clear blue water...

It is said that Norway is the source of the clearest water on Earth because of its gletchers. I haven't been there but I've heard that it's a very beautiful country.

Here is a picture from Norway for you that my elder son took on a business trip there.

Have a happy weekend, my blog friends !

It will be 12*C/50*F tomorrow at the bay, hope to have a glimpse of my Black Sea waters.

...to write a post but preferred to read YOUR posts, my blog fellows, and tell you "hallo" because you're more important than me and make me happy when 3D life is grey. So

Happy Thanksgiving Day, American friends !

I felt it like a holiday, too, thanks to you.

And nighty night to all! I can never thank you enough, friends, for being in my life, being my sweet rest and sharing...

The Click Nov 18, 2007 5:48 am

Probably all of you have received invitations that read, "Let's e-mail and see if we click".

I was thinking how important that click of the heart is, even in minor things, let's say shopping...You see something, and a flash of "clicking" goes through your mind, or blood, and you know that's the thing, no use searching for more. And it's a spontaneous feeling, it's not a matter of "let's live nad see"...

What do you think about all this ? Does your heart click often ? Is it the right thing to trust your "click" ? Do you have regrets afterwards ?...

But I definitely have a click on you,
my blog friends , and wish you a cosy Sunday and a satisfying week !

It has been pouring for two days in Bulgaria, but there was a person in my life who taught me to like and see the beauty in all kind of weather. I have been trying to live my life by valuing the positive I've learned and even in the pain not regretting what I've given.

Thank you God that I'm still alive,

thank you that the wind can blow in my hair

and I can hear the splash of the waves...

thank you for this gulp of breath...

Thank you, friends, for being around.
