Good job boys!

US military deaths in Iraq lowest in 14 months

US military losses in Iraq for September stood at 70 on Sunday, the lowest monthly figure since July last year, according to an AFP tally based on Pentagon figures.

The figure also marks the fourth consecutive drop in the monthly death toll following a high of 121 in May. June saw 93 deaths, July 82 and August 79. The monthly toll in July 2006 was 53.

Two US soldiers were killed on Saturday in separate incidents, pushing the overall toll of American losses since the March 2003 invasion to 3,801.

A surge in US troop numbers saw an extra 28,500 personnel deployed from mid-February, mainly in Baghdad and the neighbouring province of Anbar, although commanders said most were not in combat positions until May.

US commanders say the strategy is starting to work and that levels of violence are dropping, allowing for a possible drawdown of the 160,000 or so troops now deployed.

"The trend is certainly in the right direction," US military spokesman Rear Admiral Mark Fox told a press conference in Baghdad.

"The surge unquestionably is what has been the catalyst that has created the opportunity to have more forces operating in more places at the same time and to deny Al-Qaeda and the extremists safe-haven and to take away sanctuaries."

The highest monthly toll was 137 in November 2004 when a US-led force stormed the insurgent bastion of Fallujah in fierce house-to-house fighting. Of the 137 dead, 126 were killed in action.

In April 2004, the second deadliest month since the invasion for US military personnel, 135 troops died. The month marked a turning point in the war with uprisings in Fallujah in the predominantly Sunni west, and in Shiite cities south of Baghdad.

This week has been Looong!

We went up on Sunday to meet with a new lawyer where I used to live because that judge still has jurisdiction in my divorce and custody battle redeux. This lady works for the benefit of the children and specializes in child issues. Makes this nice for me We have hopes of gaining custody but it will be an interesting fight. The laws are slanted against the dad and against the person who is moving away, which is a lot to over come!

However, We talked my ex into letting me pick up my son on Monday instead of Tuesday! However, she "forgot" that he had a playdate at 4pm and wanted to change the pick up again. She refused to allow us to pick him up before 10pm! Whoa! I said I would like 8, but that was too early for her. She still insisted on 10! That is way to late! Finally, she agreed to 9:30, which is past his bed time and mine, but took a lot of work to get to. Mary had get back to work on Tuesday, Little Guy had preschool, and we were argueing about how much after bedtime his mother wantedd to keep him up! She got ticked and called me pushy Refreshing to see that after years of verbal and emotional abuse from her and her mother I am finally regaining my spine

We finally returned home after 2am Tuesday. Little Guy was sleeping most of the way, but me and Mary were beat! We never did catch up this week. My son was fine, but Mary and I have been beat and 'off' all week. Praise the Lord that my son was, generally, in a good mood! That might have caused major issues!

We survived, but our days were off from having Monday off. So, when Thursday arrived, I had forgotten that my son and I were supposed to head back up after school! I had an appointment on Friday morning, so I had arranged with my ex to pick up my son at 7:30. She didn't. She had been going to send her husband to pick up my son, but forgot that he had class after work (he is 3rd shift). I had to pass Little Guy to someone by 9, but was about out of options, since it is really hard to get a sitter at the last minute during the day. She finally agreed to take him at work, at 9, because his step-father would be there. We got there at 9, waited, but I left at 9:15 without seeing the guy. I wonder how much my ex "forgot" this time? Well, caring for a four year old at work is her punishment!

Neither Mary nor I felt good Saturday morning and we missed our pre-marriage counselling Then, this morning, I was constantly passing back out and slept until 1! Kind of scary! I know I was just catching up, but it is not scary to know that my body wants sleep that bad. What woke me was the lack of a Mary next to me She got up and moving and was doing the laundry while I slept. I feel so guilty about this!

I am glad that the rest of the day was nice. I keep dosing off writing this, but I waited until Mary was asleep to write, since she needed to get to sleep.

I love this lady and hope things get better for us soon!

On the positive side, my son finally started to sleep at night. Even going to sleep on his own and on time! Yay! I hope this continues

Christmas banned in Illinois schools Sep 29, 2007 7:48 pm

So long, Halloween parade. Farewell, Santa’s gift shop.

The holiday traditions are facing elimination in some Oak Lawn schools this year after complaints that the activities are offensive, particularly to Muslim students.

Final decisions on which of the festivities will be axed will fall to the principals at each of Ridgeland School District 122’s five schools, Supt. Tom Smyth said.

Parents expect that the announcement is going to add to the tension that has been building since officials agreed earlier this month to change the lunch menu to exclude items containing pork to accommodate Muslim students. News that Jell-O was struck from the menu caused such a stir that officials have agreed to bring it back. Gelatin is often made with tissue or bones of pigs or other animals.

That controversy now appears to have been been dwarfed by the holiday debate, which became so acrimonious Wednesday that police were called to Columbus Manor School to intervene in a shouting match among parents.

“It’s difficult when you change the school’s culture,” said Columbus Manor Principal Sandy Robertson.

'Pretty Soon We’re Not Going to Have a Young African-American Male Population in America.'

Asked about what he could do about "inner-city kids partaking in violence" at the MTV/MySpace Forum yesterday, Democratic candidate John Edwards offered an apocalyptic prediction for young black males:

“We cannot build enough prisons to solve this problem. And the idea that we can keep incarcerating and keep incarcerating — pretty soon we’re not going to have a young African-American male population in America. They’re all going to be in prison or dead. One of the two.”

Hyperbole much? Despite popular misperception and those who find it a convenient talking point to illustrate inescapable racism, there are more young African-American men in college than in prison. In 2005, according to the Census Bureau, there were 864,000 black men in college. According to Justice Department statistics, there were 802,000 in federal and state prisons and jails; between the ages of 18 and 24, however, black men in college outnumber those incarcerated by 4 to 1.

[Some readers are finding the numbers above confusing. The first set of numbers (comparing 864,000 to 802,000) refers to all black men of all ages. The 4 to 1 ratio is among black men between the ages of 18 to 24. In other words, a large percentage of that 802,000 are black men above the age of 24.]

Ex-military to be denied gun ownership
2nd Amendment advocates warn it poses clear constitutional threat

By Bob Unrun

The Gun Owners of America is launching an urgent campaign encouraging people to call their U.S. senators and ask them to oppose a bill that could be described as "disarmament by diagnosis." It would allow a person's right to own a gun in the United States to be permanently removed, under a wide range of circumstances.

"You'd think that when rabid, anti-gun legislators like Sen. Charles Schumer and Rep. Carolyn McCarthy join together to pass anti-gun legislation, it would raise a few red flags. But these two New York Democrats are currently planning to roll over gun owners with H.R. 2640 – legislation which would bar you from owning guns if: You are a battle-scarred veteran suffering from Post Traumatic Stress Disorder; or as a kid, you were diagnosed with ADHD," the alert says.

Rep. Carolyn McCarthy, D-N.Y., announcing a provision to allow doctors to ban people from owning guns

Gun Owners Executive Director Larry Pratt told WND that those are just two of the circumstances that legitimately could be used under the pending proposal to permanently remove an individual's right to own a weapon in the United States.

Someone in counseling during a bitter divorce, a child who at one point gets into a scrape on a school yard and is put on Ritalin, or even someone given "counseling" for issues such as depression during recovery from an accident or work-related injury are some other situations that could trigger such "disarmament by diagnosis," he said.

The plan, described in Congress as an expansion of the Brady Gun Bill that requires background checks for potential firearms purchasers, would require people who have such a diagnosis in their health record to be permanently banned from owning a gun.

(Story continues below)

As WND reported earlier, H.R. 2640 was launched by McCarthy in the wake of the April shooting tragedy at Virginia Tech, when a gunman shot and killed more than 30 people, then killed himself. The gunman previously had been ordered by a court to have a psychiatric evaluation and should have been prevented from purchasing a gun under existing laws, but apparently the gun seller didn't know that.

The plan would provide access to a multitude of medical records repositories for authorities to compile lists of people who have had such a diagnosis.

Pratt told WND that Schumer right now is pushing hard for a consent "agreement" in the Senate so that the plan could be approved without further discussion and sent to President Bush.

"This agreement is extremely diabolical, as it would eliminate the ability of pro-gun senators to offer amendments which would clean up the legislation … and would grease the skids for immediate passage!," the alert said.

The concerns expressed by Pratt, whose organization represents more than 300,000 Americans, were echoed by U.S. Rep. Ron Paul, a Texas congressman now seeking the GOP nomination for president.

"In my opinion, H.R. 2640 is a flagrantly unconstitutional expansion of restriction on the exercise of the right to bear arms protected under the Second Amendment," he said. "H.R. 2640 also seriously undermines the privacy rights of all Americans – gun owners and non-gun owners alike – by creating and expanding massive federal government databases, including medical and other private records of every American."

He noted that the new information that would be submitted to a federal database would come from medical, psychological and drug treatment records that traditionally have been considered protected from disclosure under the physician-patient relationship.

"We should not trick ourselves into believing that we can pick and choose which part of the Bill of Rights we support," he said.

The National Rifle Association has not expressed such a high level of concern yet. Wayne LaPierre, the group's executive vice president, has said that the Virginia Tech killer absolutely should have been barred from buying a gun under federal laws that already exist.

He said such records as a 2005 court order directing the gunman to get a psychiatric evaluation should be in an FBI database used for those background checks.

"Our position on this is crystal clear: If you are adjudicated by a court to be mentally defective, suicidal, a danger to yourself or to others, you should be prohibited from buying a firearm," he has said.

The GOA has no difficulty with someone being formally "adjudicated" by a court. But Mike Hammond, the organization's legislative counsel, said the issue is that the expansion allows others to make such a decision.

It opens those who can make that determination – on someone else's competency – to a "court, board, commission, or other lawful authority."

That, he concluded in an analysis, could be a school psychologist, a psychiatrist commissioned by Medicare to evaluate seniors for Alzheimer's, a Veteran's Administration psychiatrist, or a psychologist who for any reason involuntarily commits a patient "with no due process at all."

The GOA cited a recent Pennsylvania case to illustrate the dangers that would be presented.

It was an apparent "offhanded, tongue-in-cheek remark" made by Horatio Miller that got the case started. He allegedly said it could be "worse than Virginia Tech" if someone broke into his car, because of the guns there.

"It is not clear whether he was making a threat against a person who might burglarize his car, or if he was simply saying that the bad guy could do a lot of damage because of the guns he would find there," the GOA said.

Miller, with no criminal record and the holder of a concealed carry permit who had passed rigorous background checks, was ordered never to own or possess a gun again.

"I contacted the sheriff and had his license to carry a firearm revoked. And I asked police to commit him under Section 302 of the mental health procedures act and that was done. He is now ineligible to possess firearms [for life] because he was committed involuntarily," the district attorney reported.

"The comment Miller made was certainly not the smartest thing to say," said the GOA. "But realize, we don't incarcerate people for making stupid statements in this country – at least not yet."

The plan also would provide more than a billion dollars to computerize mental-health and medical records for installation in the FBI's National Instant Criminal Background Check System.

The Military Order of the Purple Heart, representing those among the bravest of the nation's military who have been injured in defense of their nation, said the plan "would statutorily impose a lifetime gun ban on battle-scarred veterans."

"The Pennsylvania case shows how all gun owners could be threatened by H.R. 2640," said the GAO. "After all, did you ever tell anyone that the Second Amendment was included in the Bill of Rights because the Founders (such as James Madison) wanted the people to be able to overturn a tyrannical American government?

"Or, while you were watching the nightly news – and getting a detailed account of all the crime in your area – did you ever make a statement such as, 'If someone were to break through my door, I'd blow him away!'"

The conclusion? "Those kinds of statements will certainly make anti-gun nuts think you're a potential danger to yourself or others. So if you make the local district attorney or police officer nervous, how difficult would it be for him to get a psychiatrist (most of whom are very left-wing) to say that you are a danger to yourself and to others?" the GOA said.

Pratt noted that the federal Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives already had instituted regulations that define a danger perceived by someone else as "any danger."

Pratt told WND the movement through Congress also is as alarming as the substance of the bill. He said the House voted at 8 in the morning to approve the bill, but left no recorded vote. Now a supporter is trying to exempt the plan from ordinary discussion and debate in the Senate.

"We have a letter from a retired judge in Wyoming, talking about some friends of his. They see a counselor occasionally [because of their service in Vietnam.] They've all got concealed carry permits. They're going to be toast," he said.

Top Ten Pieces of Advice From W To Hillary
Posted by Harvey at 01:07 PM

Rumor has it that President Bush has been quietly giving advice to Hillary about not making stupid promises regarding Iraq that she'll regret if she gets elected. I'm sure the advice also encompasses other topics, and I'll speculate thusly about what he might have said:

10) "Choose a running mate that's in favor of gun control so as not to be blindsided by an embarrassing 'lawyer hunting accident'".

9) "Don't fire your US Attorneys, just kill them and dump the bodies in a park somewhere... like I have to tell YOU to do that!"

"Keep Bill the hell away from my daughters!"

7) "Don't walk barefoot on the White House lawn - John Kerry's medals are still out there somewhere and those things are POINTY!"

6) "If you win, I'm TOTALLY stealing all the H's off the computer keyboards before I go."

5) "That new French President Sarkozy is a terror with his SBD's. Try to meet with him outdoors whenever possible."

4) "Ya want fluffy omelets, ya gotta beat 'em until your arm is sore. Good advice for raising kids, too."

3) "Yankees take the Series in 6. Lay the lumber. Don't ask questions, just trust me."

2) "Please, for the love of God, no more cleavage."

And the #1 piece of advice from W to Hillary:

1) "After using the 'Little Oval Office', jiggle the handle."

It's Time to Legalize Beating Up White People
An Editorial by Harvey
Posted by Harvey at 01:06 PM

I never thought I'd see the day, but I agree with Jesse Jackson.

Reverend Rhymes-A-Lot is defending the actions of six black youths who beat a white kid into blood-soaked unconsciousness because they were angry at something some other white people did.
"it's been scientifically proven that beating up white people will give you better grades in school and greater financial success if you're also stealing their lunch money and making them do your homework."
Personally, I can't see anything wrong with what the Jena 6 did. Let's face it - white people have gotten away with so much for so long that there's no reason NOT to beat them up. They must've done SOMETHING wrong lately - after all, they're WHITE - but just because the punishment doesn't directly fit the unknown possible alleged crime that they probably committed when no one was looking doesn't mean that the beating wasn't well-deserved in some greater cosmic-karmic sense of the word.

And I speak from personal experience. I grew up in a small and agonizingly Caucasian town in Wisconsin. I wasn't lucky enough to have African-Americans around to administer the beatings I so richly deserved for being an overweight, undermuscled, pale-skinned, chess-playing, glasses-wearing twerp. And look at me NOW! I'm just some nerd hiding behind a keyboard, whoring out my writing talents by typing up right-wing satires of left-wing parodies of stories about right-wing politicians. If only there'd been a dozen strong, brown hands to encourage me to mend my ways by teaching me the meaning of pain!

But it's not just MY life that could be improved by inter-racial pummelling. The fact is, it's been scientifically proven that beating up white people will give you better grades in school and greater financial success if you're also stealing their lunch money and making them do your homework. Don't you want this for YOUR children? Do you honestly want to risk having them grow up like ME? Do you hate your blessed offspring THAT much?

If you care about the future, you will join Jesse Jackson and I our quest to make it possible for people of color to batter any white devil into a coma without fear of unfair and racist legal retribution.

And let me toss out an idea that'll make this country even safer from the terror of uncontrollable white-itude. We should have a government program that actually PAYS young black men to travel the country to put the whup-ass on honky skulls. Sorta like the Peace Corps, except with violence.

It's just a dream at this point, but I think it's one worth pursuing. After all, is there REALLY any price too high to pay to keep another white child from turning out like me?

Israelis seized nuclear material in Syrian raid
Uzi Mahnaimi and Sarah Baxter

Israeli commandos seized nuclear material of North Korean origin during a daring raid on a secret military site in Syria before Israel bombed it this month, according to informed sources in Washington and Jerusalem.

The attack was launched with American approval on September 6 after Washington was shown evidence the material was nuclear related, the well-placed sources say.

They confirmed that samples taken from Syria for testing had been identified as North Korean. This raised fears that Syria might have joined North Korea and Iran in seeking to acquire nuclear weapons.

Israeli special forces had been gathering intelligence for several months in Syria, according to Israeli sources. They located the nuclear material at a compound near Dayr az-Zwar in the north.

Evidence that North Korean personnel were at the site is said to have been shared with President George W Bush over the summer. A senior American source said the administration sought proof of nuclear-related activities before giving the attack its blessing.

Diplomats in North Korea and China believe a number of North Koreans were killed in the strike, based on reports reaching Asian governments about conversations between Chinese and North Korean officials.

Syrian officials flew to Pyongyang, the North Korean capital, last week, reinforcing the view that the two nations were coordinating their response.
