Another Major Life Moment. :) May 6, 2006 7:51 am
Mood: satisfied, 1003 Views
Well it's 8:44 AM MDT here, and my son is set to line up for the processional in about 30 minutes.

He's completed a 4 year degree in Art and Theater here and we'll be driving back home in two cars once the ceremony is over.

I'm very proud of him actually. When he first came here he had a little difficulty adjusting to being away from home in a small town. After his Freshman year though he really started to like it here and I think now he would not mind actually coming back here someday to live.

He is well known and liked by people all over town. It's not that hard to describe my son. He is a lot like me. He has a wicked sense of humor and a caring and compassionate side. He is very comfortable at parties and loves to improvise with humor. He's so funny he can even make me burst out laughing a lot of times. He's a redhead. He's now taller than I am by about 5 inches. LOL!

He's shy in some ways but he's got a girl he really likes here, and I'm not sure what will happen with that now that he's going back to Omaha. I guess that will be his matter to work out. LOL!

Hehehe, maybe I can set him up with one of my beautiful friends. LOL! Anyone interested?

I have arrived :) May 5, 2006 6:29 pm
Mood: bouncy, 1137 Views
Woohoo, the lab is NOT closed here LMA We arrived at about 4:20 PM MDT in western Nebraska. Met up with my son and then went and got some stuff for a wonderful meal. Then we checked into our cabin at the nearby park and cooked up steak, fries, asparagus, and tossed salad. It was very yummy.

Then I followed my son back into town to get his car filled up with gas. To my delight the college computer lab is NOT closed down, hence I AM able to write this blog.

Tomorrow he graduates with a BA in fine arts. I am very proud of him. He is going to work and save some money for the next 8 months or so and then he's considering grad school somewhere.

Well other than driving 7.5 hours I'm feeling pretty good and there's even a karaoke bar so maybe I will sing karaoke afterall tonight. LOL!

I'll be heading back home right after the ceremony is over tomorrow, so I should be back home tomorrow night.

The Love of Music. :) May 3, 2006 2:34 pm
Mood: thoughtful, 1108 Views
I just realized that in the past 6 months in particular that music has become a huge part of my life, much more so than it was before that. I'm not saying that I didn't care about music because of course I've always loved music but since October of 2005, music has helped fill a huge void of loneliness in my life and it has also been a vent for me allowing me to listen and vent my emotions or sing and do the same.

In October of last year some things started to really go haywire in my life. Some of those things still hurt a lot and they still haven't been resolved, but one light in the darkness was karaoke. One October evening I agreed to go out to a bar after work with some colleagues from my other job. They were doing karaoke and although I was not willing to sing a solo, my friend Lisa convinced me to do a duet with her and we sang "I Got You Babe" by Sonny and Cher. I actually felt I sounded pretty good. Within two weeks I went to my regular Friday night hangout called the Landslide and decided to do karaoke solo for the first time in front of an audience of adults. Now it's become one of my favorite things to do that I really look forward to, so much so that I've now started going there on Tuesday nights too, because there's often a different crowd there and it's not as crowded sometimes and you can get up and try new songs.

The other big thing is that for various reasons I decided to start buying a music collection of the bands and songs I enjoy listening too. Believe me I have a very wide range of musical tastes so the opportunities to buy more CD's never gets old. One thing I decided in 2004 is that I'm going to spend my money on myself for a change because I work hard for it and I'm sick of never having anything or doing anything. I now purchase at least a CD every couple weeks. This week I've purchased two and ordered a third that should be in tomorrow.

Just wanted to share a verse of one of my favorite songs which was written by Joni Mitchell but has been covered by Judy Collins and is on the CD I bought yesterday.

"Moons and Junes and ferris wheels, the dizzy dancing way you feel, when every fairy tale comes real, I've looked at love that way. But now it's just another show, you leave 'em laughing when you go, and if you care don't let them know, don't give yourself away. I've looked at love from both sides now, from up and down and still somehow, it's love's illusions I recall, I really don't know love, at all." Both Sides Now, sung by Judy Collins, written by Joni Mitchell, from Colors of the Day, the Best of Judy Collins.

I have loved this CD which has many beautiful songs on it for over 30 years. I had it on 8 track tape believe it or not, and now I've got it on CD

The Dinner A Poem From the Light Side. May 1, 2006 6:43 pm
Mood: nostalgic, 1065 Views
I'm so in love with you.
The candles highlight your hair.
A violinist sidles by stands beside us and begins playing.
The food is wonderful, mannicotti, stuffed artichokes a meal that can never be forgotten.
Such ambience the bay glistens off the pier in the moonlight.
I stare into your eyes enraptured.
Amazingly a crane stands in the water.
The restaurant is crowded but I hear nothing but your voice.
It is dark but I see nothing but your face.
You have never been so beautiful.
Make this moment last forever.

A Rare Chance to Get Online At Lunch. May 1, 2006 10:16 am
Mood: content, 978 Views
Ooooo it's an inservice-work day today so we get an hour and a half to eat lunch. That means I go to the university and get online for almost an hour. Woohoo.

Hmmmmm, went to bed reasonably early by Brucey standards last night about 12:30 AM. Also got a little bit of a chance to snooze since my arrival time didn't have to be about 7:15.

Working my butt off today getting tons of paperwork done which is good, because it's almost overwhelming.

Feeling in a pretty good mood today. I don't know why there's nothing that's really happened, good or bad LOL!

I think sometimes I just get moody. My dark feelings sometimes need to be vented so every so often I'll write a poem that expresses the anger and frustration I really have with myself.

One of the problems with blogging, especially here is that everyone reads your words and think they did something to upset you. I'm not really upset with anyone. I sometimes get upset with myself but that's not anyone's fault.

I will say that sometimes I get my feelings hurt or second guess myself about something I might have said or done, but for the most part I know that my friends care about me and they're not going to suddenly stop being my friends because of something I write, say or do. At least I certainly hope not.

As for all of the negativity going on, I stay out of it, because I come here to have fun and relax not to engage in negativity. Negativity solves nothing and it only drains off positive energy that could be put to good use.

That doesn't mean I never express a negative thought, that would be impossible, it just means I refuse to go out of my way to any longer engage in negativity. Except for towards the president. LMAO Just kidding.

I'm going to start looking for apartments that I can afford this week. I have some numbers but I need to call or visit.

Might have to wait until next week because of my son's big graduation this Saturday. Ah well that's the scoop in Brucey's life right now.

Looking Forward to a 3 day week. Apr 30, 2006 7:12 pm
Mood: moody, 872 Views
Well tomorrow the kids aren't there and it's just a work day. Then there are 4 days in the week where the kids WILL be there but I'm taking Friday off to drive out to my son's graduation.

So for me it's really only a 3 day week of actual school. Right now my kids are reading the Time Machine by H.G. Wells, which is an excellent story. My kids only have until May 18th and they are done because they are seniors. The other students go up through Memorial Day weekend.

I have felt very strange thinking about my son getting his degree already. It makes me feel kinda old. LOL! Still life goes on and time marches onward. As Joni Mitchell said in Circle Game, "We can't return we can only look, behind from where we came, and go round and round and round in the circle game."

I guess the last couple days I've realized that I'm not one of the hottest males on the FF board which I guess I already knew, but needed to be reminded of.

I'm also not going to leave FF. I know about this other site that people are talking about, and it's got just as many problems as FF does if not more. I got a rude offensive letter a couple weeks ago from a total creep on THAT site so anyone who thinks that site is some panacea is kidding themselves. I will say it has a nice e-mail system and I like the blog system there but the IM system has been broken and unfixed there for over three months and the service really sucks.

Plus, I don't just come here to blog although I love to blog, I come here to take part in fun moderated discussions on my discussion groups. Still it's a free country and if people want to leave I'm sure they'll leave for awhile find that other place is boring compared to here and come back. If they don't then I'll just make a bunch of new friends or keep talking to the ones who stay here.

A Lazy Saturday. Apr 29, 2006 5:32 pm
Mood: bored, 926 Views
Hmmmm, haven't written a lot lately because I haven't thought of anything really fascinating to write about.

Yesterday was fun. I worked until about 8:45 after stopping off for some socialization with my colleagues from my main job after work.

Then I headed over to karaoke as usual on Friday. Last weekend when I wasn't there the place was packed so naturally last night it was pretty light at first. The good thing is I got in to sing 5 times.

My friend Ronda was there as usual as was Sheena my other friend, but most of my regular friends weren't there.

I sang Wonderwall by Oasis last night which is good for my voice range. I also sang Gambler, Coward of the County by Kenny Rogers and Good Riddance and Boulevard of Broken Dreams by Green Day. Got a lot of nice compliments.

Then I came home and stayed up way too late. LMAO! No biggie though because this morning I slept until just past eleven . Today I worked about 6 hours and just got home and made a reservation for accomodations at my son's graduation next weekend.

Tomorrow I need to work 4 hours but it should be a fairly relaxing day.

I've still got an annoying cough. Went to the doctor the other day and he gave me an inhaler. The inhaler helps some but it's still annoying.

Anyway that's the gist of what's happening around here LOL!
