Another Night to Sing. :) May 26, 2006 2:41 pm

Oooo not only is it Brucey's karaoke night tonight but it was also the last day of school so I am feeling really good and although I still have to go in next week for meetings and checkouts this year is history.

I'd rank it as the 2nd best teaching year in the last 10 years for me personally. Felt great all the way to the end and am very proud of my kids.

Not sure what I'll sing tonight but most likely there'll be some Green Day, some Oasis, and some Kenny Rogers. Hahahahaha kind of an odd combo there I realize.

Should be interesting also to see if it's busy or dead. I'm guessing it will be busy but you never know.

Okay it's Thursday and you know what that means, it's time for another weekly edition of Brucey's numerology. So here goes:

1-More day of school with the kids and we're done.
2-Number of times a week I've been singing lately.
3-Number of lovely ladies I have a crush on.
4-Number of total days before I'm off for Summer.
5-Most people I've ever tried to IM at the same time. LOL!
6-Number of people I think I IMed yesterday. LOL!
7-days from today I'll be done and on vacation.
20-mile per hour winds today. It's windy
21-more days until I get my apartment.
79-days of summer vacation.
80-temps around here the last couple days.
118-population of Spudville, Idaho after a nest of ground squirrels was discovered. LOL!

Hmmm down to final examinations which are Thursday and Friday. Tomorrow I've got to help give two finals in biology and then on Friday I've only got one final to help administer.

We have to come back next week to get signed out but really we're almost done. Woohoo

Misty-Hahahahaha hope you enjoy your last two weeks of school here LOL! I'll be basking in the sun after next week.

Last Monday of the School Year. May 22, 2006 6:51 pm

Well it was a fairly easy day and it was also the last Monday of the school year. Next week is Memorial Day so there's not even ANY school.

I have been keeping busy with tons of paper work to do. Today I collected together my senior's textbooks and checked them in. Still have a lot of things to do before the year is finished up.

Checked out another apartment today. It was a 1 bedroom and with a month's free rent it's actually cheaper than the efficiency I liked. It's a good location too but it's older and I wasn't as impressed by the run down nature of the halls and stairwells. Also, no dishwasher in the kitchen, however it DOES have a bedroom AND a living room. This one had wood floors which some people like but I'm not that thrilled with.

I still have a couple more to check out. In some ways a one bedroom would be nice because then I could have a bed instead of sleeping on a futon.

Well it's been warm here which isn't surprising as things tend to warm up really quickly after May 15th around here. I'm feeling kinda tired today because we had a long meeting after school tonight and then I went to my other job. Hehehe of course I MIGHT be staying UP too late too, but naaaaaahhhhhh

hahaha, well last night it was a family affair at karaoke as my son and my daughter both joined me for the evening.

We arrived at 10:00 because my daughter didn't get into town until almost 9:00 PM and we stopped home so she could change.

It turned out to be the most crowded it's been while I've been there in over two months. Because of that there were a lot of singers too and I ended up only personally singing twice. However my son also sang twice and my daughter sang Last Dance by Donna Summer and sounded really good.

I don't think I'd ever heard her sing before and she has a beautiful voice. Actually she has a cold right now so she didn't think she sounded that good but I did.

Anyway we ended up staying until 1:00 AM so I was pretty tired when I got home. I ended up sleeping until past noon today. LOL!

Today, we're going out to celebrate my son's graduation a couple weeks ago.

Oooo, found out something important from my daughter. Apparently FF responded to questions about security of blogs and you can no longer access the blogs without being a member. She told me this because she said she could no longer read mine unless she became a member. This must have happened about a week ago.

Wow hard to believe, with today over, there are 5 days of school left and then a Summer of change and relaxation.

This has been a year of paradox. From a career/happiness/satisfaction standpoint it has been a super year with super kids.

From a personal standpoint it has been a very tumultuous year, one I'm never likely to forget. It's odd but because of the school year straddling the calendar year I often tend to think in terms of school years rather than calendar years in assessing the happenings.

I need some personal space right now and I am going to pursue that although there are strong forces trying to dissuade me. It think that I will not do well in this next year if I don't get some personal space.

Well my daughter flies in tonight from St. Louis and will be here this weekend. She is dying to go singing with me. LOL! So after I pick her up she is coming back to drop off her stuff and then we're going to go sing.

If my son comes along it will be a real family affair.

And then next week it's only 3 days of classes and two days of final exams and then the kids are gone. We have to come back the following week to clean up our rooms and check in and do grades but in effect there's only one week left.

0-Number of days left with my Seniors they're all done after today. Woohoo!
1-Number of days until karaoke Friday.
2-Number of jobs I have still
3-Number days my daughter will be staying here in town. She's going to go karaoking with me Friday LOL!
4-Number of women I kind of like or am fond of right now
5-Number of people I IM in reasonably long conversations most days. LOL!
6-number of days left of school with the students in attendance.
7-number of days until final exams start for everyone but seniors.
114-Number of friends I currently have and I need to trim that down as some I haven't spoken to for two years and they're no longer on FF.
121-new population figures for Spudville, Idaho after a nest of baby rabbits was found.
328-Number of blog entries I've made since starting here.
1128-Number of blog comments I've received since starting to blog here.
150-Number of times people have said they were leaving FF and then returned LOL!
1200-Total population in the world of albino crows who love to attack naked women LOL!

Hmmmmm, it's hard for me to believe another school year is just about over. Tomorrow I give my finals to my 35 or so seniors that I have come to know and really love this past school year. Not all of them are graduating but the vast majority of them are.

I am so proud of them. They all have disabilities. Most of them have difficulties with reading, writing or comprehension. And yet they have made it through British literature and have read Beowulf, Canterbury Tales, Morte D'Arthur, MacBeth, Gulliver's Travels, Time Machine and tons of poems, speeches, essays and treatises from Great Britain's rich literary history.

I said goodbye to some of them today because they have good enough grades and have met all the criteria to be excused from finals. The rest of them will be back for a final exam tomorrow. They are a great bunch of kids, even better than last year's group.

It will be hard for next year's group coming up to match this group for their work ethic, perserverance and attitude but as in the movie To Sir With Love, we don't sit on our laurels, we roll up our sleeves and start over again with the next group come August.

This has been one of the most rewarding years I've had in a long time of teaching. A few years stand out. This school year is one because it's really my second at this school and I feel like I'm a lot better organized and prepared. Another great year was 2001-2002. I really loved my kids that year too, even though they were mostly gifted kids and it was a different school.

I am looking forward to a long Summer break. They asked me if I wanted to teach Summer School and I was tempted but I love the free time of not teaching right after the school year ends.

Well in any case this class will leave my classroom for the final time tomorrow and I am so proud of them and all they've accomplished. Most of them come from poverty and yet I feel like I could leave my wallet on the floor and they'd come up and say, "Hey, Mr. D, you dropped this" and all my money would still be in it.

I told them all if any of them wanted a letter of recommendation for a scholarship or a job interview that I would be honored to write one for them. Well with all the negativity swirling around I just wanted to come on here and glow a little bit about my kids.

I hope that everyone else is having a great day. All good things, including this blog must come to an end, so see everyone around LOL!

Cindela-Hope you get a break in the weather so you can get out and enjoy yourself, now that Summer is almost here.

Emily-Your daughter is a treasure and it was so much fun to hear both of you last night in our karaoke session.

Riny-It was great finally getting to hear you sing You had a guitar too unlike me.

Mehme-Great hearing you sing last night. You have a lovely voice.

Carolyn-so glad you came back my dear. Don't leave again. Have you taken care of those albino crows yet?
