Dang It's Coming Fast. Dec 23, 2006 5:54 pm
Mood: exanimate, 589 Views
Geez I only just got off work yesterday and now tomrrow is already Christmas Eve. Because of Christmas and New Year both falling on a Monday they decided to let us out the 22nd instead of the 14th like they did last year. The good news is that we don't have to be back until Monday Jan. 8th. The bad news is that I feel like I have to rush to finish my shopping in time. Today I got quite a bit done, bought some important gifts for some people that I was looking for but hadn't gotten yet.

Tomorrow most places will be closing by 5:00 PM so I'll have to get out and go if I want to get anything else bought by Christmas day.

Bought our turkey today too. It's a 15 pounder so that should be yummy. I love turkey. I don't mind at all having it on both Christmas and Thanksgiving.

Well today I went shopping from about 10-1 and then went to work. Then I went shopping directly after work and got some major items. Hahahaha I even got some Cadbury Fingers which I'm sure Lynney would like

Now I'm home making dinner. I'm having baked chicken tonight. After that I'm undecided as to whether I'll go out or not.

I went to karaoke last night and had a nice time. Got to sing 5 times which was 3 more times than last week when I only got in twice. You know it's really interesting to watch women when they are not getting along with someone they care about. Last night two younger women that I am casual friends with, were both using every signal of body language in the book to let their husband/former boyfriend know they were in the bar. LOL!

I notice people's behavior a lot more than I used to. I don't know why, but I see the way people act. Some are trying to send none too subtle messages, but I think the guys are a little dense sometimes and don't pick up on it too well. LOL!

Maybe if the women were more direct they would get more satisfaction or at least the man would know they're pissed at them. Instead there are a lot of passive aggressive games being played. I'll bet the one lady who is married really let her husband have it after they left. She was really angry, because he played darts most of the night. I don't think she wanted to play darts. So instead she went over and sat and talked to other guys. I could tell by the look in her eyes and her facial expression that she was upset with her husband. I don't think he had a clue though and if he did he didn't probably understand why?

Well I hope everyone has a great Christmas anyway. I'll be on some tomorrow but then I might be offline for much of Christmas Day. I might write a blog but won't be posting a lot until Tuesday probably. Everyone have fun and hope that it is relaxing and enjoyable to you wherever you are and whomever you are with.

Christmas Pot Luck :) Dec 19, 2006 3:20 pm
Mood: curious, 650 Views
Hmmm tonight at my other job, they're having a Christmas pot luck supper. I'm not sure how it's going to turn out because unlike at Thanksgiving the company is not supplying the main course which was turkey and mashed potatoes so in this case it will only be what the people eating bring.

For me, I have no time to really make anything so I am just taking some store bought Christmas cookies. They do look yummy though, I will say that.

Hmmmmm, okay it is kind of strange around here for late December with temps above 40 degrees. There is a huge storm coming but no one knows if it will hit us or if it will as usually either go south or north?

It seems too warm to snow much here but I have heard that there could be ice which would be nasty.

Geez, it's already next week. :) Dec 17, 2006 1:03 pm

I can't believe that one week from today is Christmas Eve. That is unbelievable to me. This year seems to have raced by.

I went out today and did some big time Christmas shopping. I bought quite a bit of things that I was looking for but am still not finished.

I get exhausted anymore just going for an hour and a half. I think part of that is my "love" for shopping manifesting itself.

I feel like I'm at least more than half way done now anyway. Still need to buy some things for family members. I tried to get a gift certificate yesterday and the line was so long I finally gave up.

I am a little bummed out because my DVD player stopped working last week. I bought a cleaner for it today and it won't even read the cleaning disc. So I guess I'm going to ask for a new DVD player for Christmas.

hahahaha I put up some Christmas lights inside my place today, but unless people come to visit me they won't see them. LOL! I can't really put them outside cause there is no outlet or plug.

I'm baking a pot roast right now and I am hoping it will be ready before I have to go to work. Things are kinda quiet today, a lot of people I think are out shopping. I know I was

Movies, Singing, National Championship and Shopping :) Dec 16, 2006 9:53 pm
Mood: bouncy, 731 Views
hahaha not necessarily in that order but that was pretty much what I did today in addition to working almost 4 hours.

Went out and did some Christmas shopping today but ended up buying mostly music and a movie. Then the annoying crowds took over and that was it for me. Tried to go to the Cheesecake Factory and there was a line out the door so I said, "Forget that." Ended up eating a sports bar type restaurant called Indigo Joes for the first time ever. The food was pretty good actually.

Tonight I decided to go see the new fantasy movie Eragon. I liked it and just did a review on both my fantasy group and the tv/movies discussion group. If you are fan of the fantasy genre you'll love it. The dragon is particularly awesome and it's a she dragon with a sultry voice Of course I ordered a "medium" bag of popcorn at the theater, which was about enough popcorn to feed a full grown Clydesdale but the movie was good.

After the movie I pulled around the corner about a block to one of my karaoke hangouts. I had forgotten that the University of Nebraska volleyball team was playing Stanford for the national championship tonight and were on tv on ESPN and they won the match 3-1 and so they ARE National Volleyball Champions for the NCAA Division I. That is awesome and they were great this year.

Then since I was there I sang one karaoke song before coming back home to relax and go online to write this blog. So it was busy but enjoyable day here.

You Have Moved Your Mouse, Windows Must Now Close :) Dec 15, 2006 2:51 pm
Mood: devious, 794 Views
Hahaha, does anyone else ever get tired of that idiotic message saying that Windows has encountered an error and must close?

Here are a few variations on that basic message:

You have touched your keyboard, Windows must close.
You are in mid conversation, Windows must now close.
You have moved your mouse, Windows must now close.
You forgot to gargle and brush your teeth this morning, Windows must now close.
You didn't do anything, Windows must now close anyway.

You were in the middle of something extremely important, Windows must now close.

You currently have a MAC, please install Windows so it may close.

Windows is NOT Kwik Shop, Speedy Mart, 7-11 or Kum and Go, it must now close.

Unlike the door to the room of your roommate and his girlfriend, Windows must close.

"No man is a failure who has friends"

Those are the words that George Bailey's guardian angel writes in Tom Sawyer and leaves under his Christmas tree at the inspirational ending of It's A Wonderful Life.

When I think about it, that is so true. About a year ago, I was down, upset, bursting into tears all the time, just very unhappy about things. It was my friends that lifted me back up and there are so many of them I hate to try to list them all because I'll probably forget some of them, but here on the blogs I found a whole new set of people to love. No, not love in the sense of a wife or girlfriend, but love because they are dear to me. They lift me up. They make me feel worthwhile, cared about, important. If it hadn't been for FF friends I don't know how I would have gotten through?

First it was my friends Lynne, Kelly, Jeannie, Kaz and Maggie. Then soon it was Ari, Eli, Moony, Lisa, and Dionne. Now a whole host of new wonderful friends I have met including Nia, Mary, Val, Jentra, Sarah, Lisa (rojeli), Misty, and others I'm sure I'm forgetting.

Funny even before I watched It's A Wonderful Life tonight, I was thinking of how George Bailey really just changed his own feelings about his life. All the things that nearly drove him to suicide were really unaltered as far as he knew when he ran back into town happy to be alive. It was seeing the impact he had on others that made him realize his life was precious. He was ready to go back to town and face whatever happened to him in the knowledge that his wife, his children and his friends would still be there regardless of anything else.

In a way almost all of us go through George Bailey type crises in our lives, maybe not in such dramatic fashion but I guess what I still get out of the movie no matter how many times I watch it is that happiness is really more a matter of how we react to events than it is the events themselves.

I love my life. I love my friends. I love my family. No man is a failure who has friends.

My Own Karaoke Groupie? :) Dec 12, 2006 3:36 pm
Mood: devious, 792 Views
Hahahaha last Tuesday night I went to this new bar to sing karaoke and I sang "Fire and Rain" by James Taylor. As I finished the song I noticed there's this woman at the bar vigorously applauding and smiling. I mean more than normal for a karaoke performance.

So a little later she comes up to me and tells me how much she liked my rendition of "Fire and Rain" and she asks me if I know "How Sweet it is to be Loved by You?" I told her that I know it but have never tried to sing it.

Anyway it turns out that she got married and they played the song at her wedding also when she renewed her vows so she is crazy about the song.

Then she told me to come back next week and she'll be there and if I sing that song for her she'll give me a tip. LOL!

Does this mean I have a groupie? Hahaha just my luck to get a happily married groupie

Weekends Going By Too Fast Dec 10, 2006 8:42 pm
Mood: contemplative, 866 Views
Okay someone is stealing the weekends. There's no way they could be going by THAT fast unless someone was sneaking in and taking them when I'm busy trying to have fun.

I'm thinking of setting up a camera and hiring security guards to catch whoever it is that is taking the weekends.

I need to get on the ball here for Christmas because there are really only two weeks left of shopping and I've only bought a couple things.

I think if I sent gifts to all my friends this year I'd go broke which is both good and bad. I have made so many good friends in this past year that I am truly blessed. I have friends all over the world, even a few in Africa and South America.

I just wanted to thank all the wonderful people that I've met here on FF and especially this past year on the blogs. Last year at this time I was about as low emotionally as I've ever been and thanks to my friends here on the blogs and on my discussion groups I feel happy and inspired most of the time. Oh sure there are moments when I reflect and wonder how things might have been if I'd done something differently but I've accepted things and I think that in retrospect things have probably turned out for the best for all concerned.

This is a watershed year in Brucey's life. Changes that I never imagined I would make, I've made. Where will 2007 lead? I don't know. But I am so happy with my new friends that I'm sure it can only be good.

Now let me get my flashlight and go look for that thief who keeps stealing the weekends.
