| A Heavenly Day :) |
Apr 2, 2007 1:16 pm Mood: beautiful, 749 Views | Okay well so far day two here in the City of the Arches (St. Louis) is absolutely gorgeous. After waking up around 9:00 this morning and writing a blog because the internet was working, I hung out until my son got back from class and then we headed down to the riverfront which has a bunch of small cafes, gift and coffee shops. Our intention was to grab lunch but we got there at about 10:15 AM and most of the cafes didn't open until 11:00. We ducked into a small coffee shop and had a cup of coffee and relaxed until the restaurants opened.
We went to this quaint restaurant/brewery called The Lewis and Clark. This particular area was where Lewis and Clark actually first met up before their famous expedition to explore the Louisiana territory in 1804. This about 100 yards away from the river and the park where we attended the Scottish festival yesterday.
We had an order of fried mushrooms with ranch dressing which were to die for. Then we ordered a lunch that ought to fill me up until tonight . I ordered a Chimichanga which is sort of a deep fat fried burrito. Heath had a large dinner salad and batter fried eggplant. The food was excellent and we sat outside on the third floor balcony overlooking the river. Today here in St. Louis it is beautiful, sunny, with blue skies. The temp this morning was about 70 degrees with no wind so it was absolutely gorgeous.
We sat and talked about life, school, careers and his future. He seems so happy which makes me happy because last year he wasn't too happy about things.
We returned home after lunch to relax for a bit and then we walked across the street to Lindenwood's campus which is the oldest college west of the Mississippi river established in 1817 even before Missouri itself became a state.
The college has a real ambience to it and some of the buildings are new while others are quite old. We went down and stood by a 300 year old Linden tree from which the campus derives it's name. The tree is so old that it is stooping sharply and is supported by stilts so its own weight doesn't uproot it and kill it.
Right now as I write this, my second blog, Heath and his roommate are jamming out on the front porch playing guitar and singing and having a good time.
Tonight I think we're going to go to a movie but I don't know for sure what we are going to watch. I think he wants to have his girlfriend come with us, so she can meet me.
Well, it is almost a little warm now walking outside in the sun but it's still a gorgeous day here in St. Louis.
Later to all | |

| Connected, Woo Hoo :) |
Apr 2, 2007 7:18 am Mood: bouncy, 737 Views | Wow, an entire day without being able to come to FF. That was tough.
I am here now in St. Louis, soaking up the sun and enjoying the fun. I arrived yesterday at 7:30 AM and my son picked me up at the airport right as I stepped out the door of the terminal exit.
He lives in St. Charles which is only about 5 minutes from the airport. We were both hungry so we stopped and ate breakfast together. It is truly amazing to live in an age where you can be in Omaha at 6:30 AM and eating breakfast in St. Louis at 7:30 AM on the same morning.
I flew Southwest and I must say they do the same things the other airlines do for about 1/2 the price. I will fly them again if they are the best price.
After breakfast we came back to his house/dorm which is an old house on campus that's been converted into quarters for 4 students. The only down side of it was that his internet connection was down due to it still being Spring Break. So my only access to the net was through my cell phone which won't work on FF, but will work on the other two major im systems whose names shall go unmentioned here
After a nap (he was tired too) we decided to go down to a Scottish Festival which was being held by the park on the river called Katy Trail. It was kind of cool, they had Scottish bands, Scottish food, Scottish and Celtish t-shirts and gifts available. I have to laugh because they had haggis for sale and there is no way on this planet that I would ever eat haggis LOL
While we walked around looking at the displays at this festival we got a call from my daughter. Her brother in law's child was having a birthday party not far from us in O'Fallon and they wanted us to come over and see everybody so we did. I hadn't seen his relatives for about 6 years so it was nice to see them again.
After we left the party we returned back to the house for awhile and of course the network was still down, so no FF . I met his roommate named Curtis and Heath and I played some chess. Then we decided to go get some supplies to grill out. We ended up deciding to make Philly Steak sandwiches and they turned out oh so yummy.
After dinner we relaxed for awhile and listened to music and hoped the network would reconnect but it didn't. Then about 10:00 PM we decided to go out for a drink so we drove down to a local place that he sometimes goes and had a couple beers together. Came home about 11:00, took a shower, washed my hair and chatted with friends until about 12:30 and then went to bed.
When I woke up this morning the network was working again, so I am writing this blog in case it decides to go down again. Hope everyone is doing well. | |

| Vacation Woo Hoo :) |
Mar 31, 2007 2:59 pm Mood: bouncy, 792 Views | | Well tomorrow early I'm up and off to St. Louis to visit my son and also see my daughter. Unlike December when I drove down there for the holidays, this time I am flying. The great thing about flying is that it is so fast. It will take only 65 minutes to get there by flight. The St. Louis airport is not far from where my son is living so he will come and pick me up and we will spend almost 4 days goofing around together.
My son is a lot like me only he's an even bigger smart aleck . I am also doing a huge happy dance because I found out this week that he is coming back to Omaha for the entire Summer to live, because the school closes down the dorms during the Summer.
At the end of August he'll return to St. Louis to resume his classes but we will now have the Summer to travel and pal around together like we used to.
My son is really my best friend. It was very lonely here at times not having him around although I'm glad that he has found happiness living in St. Louis.
I will probably be online off and on from his computer in St. Louis, so it's not like I'll be out of touch.
My flight is pretty early in the morning but Omaha's airport is really good and not hard to access like many other large city airports are.
So as Judy Garland would sing, "Meet me in St. Louis, Louis...." |

| The Oxymorons of the Friday Before a Long Vacation. :) |
Mar 30, 2007 2:15 pm Mood: confused, 701 Views | | Oxymorons are contradictions appearing together side by side in the same sentence such as:
"95 years young" or "The Giant Midget".
Here are a few oxymorons about how I feel today, the last day of school before vacation:
"The bouncy tired teacher"
"Working vacation"
"A long short week"
"A short long holiday week coming up"
"The giddy sleepy person."
"The exhausted manic" |

| Two More Days Til Fun. :) |
Mar 28, 2007 2:18 pm Mood: bouncy, 670 Views | | Well only two more days until Brucey's Spring Break. The past two years our Spring Break has been in the same week, the first week in April but this year Easter weekend happens to fall at the end so we get Easter and the preceding week off from school.
For me I am looking forward to a trip to St. Louis to visit my son and my daughter. My son is now in college down there working on his Masters and my daughter and her husband also live there.
Instead of driving I made what turned out to be a wise decision and that was to fly down there on early Sunday morning and fly back on Wednesday afternoon. I got the flight for a reasonable price only slightly more than it would have cost me to drive down there with gas now selling at about $2.70/gallon here in Omaha. (Anyone ever notice that gas prices are never high at election time? Coincidence? I don't think so.)
So now I've got two days left before my sparkling Spring Break weekend occurs. I am finishing up Act 5 of MacBeth today and tomorrow in my Brit. Lit classes and they will take their test over it on Friday. I am glad to be done with MacBeth, it is very difficult for my students to get through although they like the story.
In my American Lit. classes we are done with Of Mice and Men by Steinbeck and are reading some short stories from the time period of the late 1800's and early 1900's. We read Outcasts of Poker Flat which is a great story about 4 "immoral" people who get thrown out of a small mining town and struggle to survive and care for one another in a mountain snowstorm.
We will have a test on Friday as well so that when we get back from vacation we will start new units in both classes.
Well not too much going on other than that, but I am gearing up for the Brucey Spring Break Happy Dance . |

| The Big 600. :) |
Mar 26, 2007 2:59 pm Mood: bouncy, 745 Views | | I remember when FF started allowing people to blog. I blogged somewhere else but wasn't too sure about blogging here because there were not ways to really limit reader access to one's thoughts like there was on other blog sites. But my good friend Emma finally convinced me to go ahead and give it a shot and now here I am almost two full years later about to hit blog #600.
While 600 pales in comparison to the number of times I've posted to discussion groups which is over 32,000 now, it still amazes me that I've written 600 entries in my FF blog.
I guess it says something about me that the overwhelming majority of the blogs I've written here have been of a positive or humorous nature including now over 52 of my famous Brucey Numerology posts. Anyone ever notice that the population of Spudville, Idaho doesn't really change very much in a year?
Over the time I've been here I've had to hide or delete a few blogs because they hurt or upset people that I care about but mostly these blogs to me have been an extension of my own personality. I sometimes marvel that people start liking to read what I write and become regular browsers of my posts to see if they can glean a kernel of humor, laughter, enjoyment or thoughtfulness from something I've written.
Oddly I hit my 600th blog here on FF in the same week that Emma who talked me into coming here, leaves FF to start a new life elsewhere.
I have a group of friends that I actually met on the blogs and not on the discussion groups like so many other of my closest friends. Alas but a few of those people for whatever reason never come here anymore either.
Nevertheless in case they read this here are some of the people I met here that I will never forget and have shaped and changed my life for the better by my knowing them:
Dione Diane Ari Sharon Lisa (Rojeli) Lisa (Lost) Carolyn Mary Tommie Misty Bonnie Belle Eimee Val
And of course don't want to forget my male allies who might someday once again help me take over the world:
Clarry Dudley Sir T Dan Bruce B.
Please don't get offended if I left you off this list because remember I may have met you or developed a friendship with you somewhere else before I started blogging here.
Anyway 600 down and only 400 more until I hit 1,000 |

| Hmmm an Unexpected Saturday Off. |
Mar 25, 2007 9:22 am Mood: content, 708 Views | | Well I steeled myself for about a 4 hour day yesterday and went into work at about 2:00 PM. When I went in, the manager was busy giving people a free 4 hours off due to light workload so I readily agreed, turned around, got back in my car and came back home.
I put my dinner in the oven and then decided I needed some new movies to watch so I headed over to this used book store where one can buy VHS movies for $5.00 apiece. I ended up getting three films I haven't ever seen but would like to.
I got Austin Powers, the Spy Who shagged Me, The Wedding Singer and The Fifth Element. I spent the rest of the day cleaning my bathroom, chatting with friends, eating my dinner and watching the Austin Powers flick.
Hahaha what can you say about Austin Powers except that it is totally stupid but has some funny lines in it. I didn't like it nearly as well as the first one although some things did crack me up.
This is the last full week of school coming up before Spring break then it's off on my little St. Louis adventure. |

| Post Friday Karaoke Report :) |
Mar 24, 2007 11:40 am Mood: cheerful, 664 Views | | Well, haven't posted since Thursday so might as well say something before heading off to work for 4 hours today.
Landslide was fairly good last night. I got there around 9 PM and was 1st singer in the rotation. I ended up sitting with my friend Marcus but later some other people joined us and sat at our table as well as moving a couple other tables over so a larger group could sit there. Ended up singing Coward of the County, Words, I Wanta Be Sedated and a duet with Chris the DJ that we love to do, If I Had a Million Dollars. My last song was at 12:15 but I asked Chris and he said I wouldn't get back up again due to a large list of anticipated singers so I took off a little early to head home.
Got home about 12:45 and ended up chatting online until almost 3:00 AM . Nothing wrong with that except that I slept today until almost noon . Now I'm getting ready to go to work after a brief lunch of a chicken sandwich which was yummy.
Not sure what I want to do tonight. I could drive out to Elkhorn and karaoke but I might just stay home and chit chat which I enjoy almost as much.
One more week of school and then a full week off plus the weekends for our Spring Break. I can't believe the weeks are flying by and before long the school year will be over. I will be tenured after this year too which is one reason why I stopped searching all that hard for other job opportunities. This week they had the annual career fair for educators in Lincoln but unlike past years I didn't take a personal day to go to it, because I'm pretty much staying put in my current school district. I feel pretty comfortable there and as I just said beginning next year I will have some job security that I would lose if I change school districts again.
Well that's about it for now. Just wanted to say hi to my lovely friend Romelda from the Philippines. She loves it when I mention her name |
