Feeling Pretty Good Today :) Aug 3, 2007 9:18 am
Mood: cheerful, 542 Views
Well I am in a pretty good mood today. Last night I went to karaoke where my friend Ronda now works. It is about 3 miles away from me as opposed to the Landslide which was about 10.

They have been running the prelims of a karaoke contest for three weeks at least. Last night there were 6 contestants including me and I ended up finishing 1st. Although the top three qualified it was flattering to be voted number 1 of those competing.

It is August now and my Summer is almost over. About a year ago I took a mini-vacation to Estes Park, Colorado, but this year my son and I went on our Yellowstone jaunt so I am just relaxing, staying up late and sleeping late until it's time to go back to school.

Next week there is going to be a big picnic to kick of my school's new program designed to attract students. They asked me to be the DJ in charge of music and karaoke so that should be interesting.

Anyway, I am really enjoying a return to the discussion groups which I had sort of drifted away from a little bit. The discussion groups have always been one of the most enjoyable aspects of friendfinder. I like to interact with people discussing movies, music and even now politics.

Since December of 2005, I have been a moderator of my own discussion groups. Two of these groups are in still in the top ten on the list of most popular groups. Lately they have been taking off again in popularity.

I suppose it helps that I'm home for Summer vacation and have time to generate new discussions and respond to others who post there.

Summer is going by way too fast but Fall is my favorite season of the year. The weather cools off and of course football starts too.

Last Minute Monday Reflections :) Jul 30, 2007 11:04 pm
Mood: contemplative, 542 Views
Well technically it's Tuesday here, but in FF time it's still Monday night. Have spent most of this day doing very little LOL

Have been on friendfinder a lot today, but also took the time out to run a couple short errands and to fix a big lunch and then clean up my kitchen.

Whoever stole July, give it back. I hate to see July go, because it means that it's almost time for school to start again. It seems like Summer just began and yet it's now a full 8 weeks gone.

Ah well I still have about 2.5 weeks left. I am excited about the college football season starting up that is one thing I do like about the Summer ending.

It has not been a boring Summer. In fact it's been a pretty good Summer for me overall. In June I got a chance to see some really nice folks I'd met a month earlier at my brother's funeral when they came here for his memorial service.

I had fun hobnobbing down at the College World Series the first weekend it was in town. Karaoke has been fun on Tuesdays but my Fridays haven't been as much fun once the Landslide died.

On June 30th my son flew into town for two weeks. We managed to spend quite a bit of time hanging out together. He had a big get together at the house and a big fireworks display. The next day we went on our big Summer road trip to the Grand Tetons and Yellowstone. We had a blast and did a lot of things that we didn't do in 2005 when we went there.

Work at my other job has not been too productive but that is fairly normal in the Summer. I never take things too seriously and just go with the flow because much of that is beyond my control.

I stay up very late and sleep late which is really my preference. I am NOT an early morning person except by necessity. Give me a 1:00 AM or later bed time and let me sleep til 9 am and I am on cloud nine. I never would have survived a military lifestyle. A Spartan I am NOT .

I managed to get out to the new Harry Potter flick on Saturday a week ago. I actually liked it very much although those who have read the book are not as fond of it from what I've heard.

Originally I was kind of hoping to take one more jaunt this Summer down to Miami Beach to visit my daughter but I don't think that it's going to work for several reasons, so I'll just have to put it at the top of my to do list for soon.

My other job is hosting an international business conference in September. I am excited because I am planning on attending some of it this year. In 2005 I missed the signup when a special friend was in town visiting for a week, so this will be the first one I've attended since 2003.

In the romance department I am not saying anything except that I get lots of online attention and that's the way I prefer it right now .

It has been hot around here but about normal for late July. Anyway one more day of July and then it's already August and in two weeks school starts back up with teacher meetings

Hmmm More Wisdom Soup. Jul 29, 2007 9:02 am
Mood: cheerful, 557 Views
Haven't done one for awhile so sit back and enjoy another bowl of Brucey's wisdom soup.

No time goes by any faster than time when you are enjoying yourself.

Spending even 10 minutes in a highly stressful situation can seem like a lifetime.

I'd like to look back on my life and be able to say, I helped others, I was mostly happy, I had a wonderful life.

We sometimes can't help people who are too far gone, but we should still try to.

Show me a totally honest politician and I'll show you a politician who finished dead last in the race.

Children are like totally blunt adults. They say exactly what they think and feel and don't worry if it is awkward or embarrassing.

If you think about the kind of movies you most enjoy watching it will tell you a lot about your own personality.

Have you ever noticed that most of the famous people we love and admire have totally messed up lives? Do we REALLY want to be just like THEM?

Have you ever noticed that really conservative people only want to follow the moral rules of their faith and ignore the parts about loving and caring for others while really liberal people only want to follow the parts about loving and caring for others and ignore the moral rules? Do you suppose either group has it right?

Anne Coulter is living proof that being beautiful has nothing to do with your physical attractiveness.

Have you ever wondered about priorities when funding is provided to build a footbridge across the Missouri so people can walk over to the casinos but lead contamination for a large part of the city is still not cleaned up after years and years?

There is nothing quite as pleasant as a purring cat sitting on your stomach

Laughter is not only an expression of mirth and happiness it is a heck of a lot healthier for you and it also reduces stress and tension. Did you ever realize that when you are laughing that all the troubles on your mind melt away, at least for that short moment when you are only thinking about the funny thing that made you laugh?

Here Two Years :) Jul 27, 2007 12:41 am
Mood: nostalgic, 594 Views
It's hard for me to believe but as of today I have been blogging here on FF for exactly two years.

When FF first opened up blogging I wasn't too sure if I wanted to do it here, but my friend Emma talked me into it. So about a week after I finished my camping trip to Yellowstone I started a FF blog and I've been here ever since.

A lot has happened in the two years since I've been here, but I still keep coming back because I have met a whole different set of friends on these blogs than I met on the discussion groups.

While I don't want to leave anyone out, there are a few special people that I met through the blogs exclusively. Ari and Sharon come to mind and it was their good nature and erotic poetry that prompted me to write my mock cheesecake epics . Carolyn is another wonderful friend I've met here. Mary (Cruiser) and I first met on the blogs and it was from knowing me here that she joined my group and met her fiance Bruce B (no relation) .

I am still friends with both of them and love to talk when I get the chance. Lisa (Rojeli) is another person that I met on the blogs and we have become friends. Lankagirl is yet another more recent friend from the blogs.

And of course there are a few that are no longer here like Emma and Dionne who put me into her western epic as Waylan Payne and had me get shot in the opening scene. LOL

Anyway still glad I'm here and on balance I have tried to make this blog fun, happy and enjoyable or entertaining although there have been moments in two years of sad or serious reflections as well.

Anyway, thanks to all my old friends and new friends that I've met in my two years here.

Chillin' in the Heat. :) Jul 24, 2007 11:48 am
Mood: content, 565 Views
If that is not an oxymoron, I don't know what is. Lately I've had blog block. That means basically nothing much has been going on of great importance to blog about so I don't feel like writing just for the sake of writing.

So time to catch up on what's been happening I guess. First I sang karaoke last week on Tuesday, Thursday and Friday nights, so on Sunday I decided that 4 times in less than 5 days would just be too much and just came home and relaxed.

I bought two new VHS movies at the used video store that I've never seen, Highlander and Ransom. Highlander I started watching last night. It is about a group of immortals who can only be killed by being decapitated. Whenever one of them kills another one, they gain the life energy and power of them and become stronger. The movie had a bit of a cult following and even spawned a television version with the same basic character and plot.

I have been making lots of new friends and chatting quite a bit when I'm not getting in my hours at my other job. Have I mentioned how much I love Summers and the ability to stay up late and also sleep in late?

July was a very exciting month for me as my son and I got to do another of our famous camping expeditions back to Yellowstone and the Grand Tetons. We were on the road for 6 days and 5 nights and saw a lot of things we had not seen two years ago when we went out there.

Ooo, and the big news is that one of my best friends (Mary "Cruiser") is getting married to my namesake Bruce B. (Quietman).

Other than that folks it's been fairly quiet around here which is why you haven't seen me bloggin' too much.

It's a Shame. Jul 23, 2007 9:26 am
Mood: annoyed, 629 Views
It's a shame that there are some people in this world who are only happy by spreading anger, rage, misery and unhappiness to others.

They are so insecure in their personal lives, their beliefs or their attitudes that they only find safety and comfort in belittling or ridiculing others.

I work with emotionally disturbed children and I recognize the attention getting behaviors of those who are emotionally disturbed even though they are long past high school.

Emotionally disturbed adults are often aggressive and seek negative attention as much as possible from others. They long ago learned that they get a great deal more mileage out of negative attention than they do out of positive attention. Just like that little boy who kicks and screams in class and rolls on the floor, they get a lot more attention by screaming about their political views, their religious views or their attitudes about women or other races or ethnic groups.

Oftentimes other adults play right into their hands by reacting to their aggressive, obnoxious bullying and insulting behavior by getting upset, responding and reacting which is exactly what they want. They crave negative attention just like the emotionally disturbed child craves negative attention.

Just like a child with a learning disability is never cured and retains that learning disability as an adult, the emotionally disturbed child grows up to be an emotionally disturbed adult. It is an ingrained trait of an emotionally disturbed person to seek negative attention in whatever ways they can because negative attention is so much easier to come by.

I used to be a member of an unmoderated discussion group on what was called usenet. It was filled with emotionally disturbed people. When they started losing an argument or a discussion they often resorted to emotionally disturbed, negative attention seeking behaviors too. I am so glad I have learned how to deal with people like this. Plus it doesn't hurt to have the power to ban or delete them from my groups when they attempt to disrupt them.

The important thing to remember is to not give into the temptation to give them what they want which is attention. Usually if they don't get that negative attention in sufficient quantities they go looking elsewhere for someone they can rile up.

Warrant Issued for Woman in Car Vandalism Case :) Jul 19, 2007 2:30 pm
Mood: devious, 647 Views
Dallas, Tx-Police have issued a warrant for the ex girlfriend of a local Dallas man who says he was singing karaoke, drinking and playing pool with a bar floozy when his ex girlfriend in an apparent fit of jealous rage, dug her key into the side of his pretty little souped up four wheel drive and carved her name into his leather seats. Then she took a Louisville Slugger to both headlights and used a razor blade to slash all four tires.

Apparently the ex was assuming that the victim would think next time before he cheats but instead the bar floozy who is actually a high powered trial lawyer is helping him file criminal and civil charges against the ex.

Police say that attempts to serve the warrant on the ex have as yet been unsuccessful but they have no doubt that she will eventually be found and charged in the case. LOL!

The man when asked about the violent and somewhat psychotic behavior of the ex, replied, "Why the hell do you think I cheated on her? She's always had a few screws loose and plus Valerie is much more fun to be around and great in bed too."
