And time for Brucey's Numerology 2 days late again.

1-Week of being back to school completed.
2-Women who like me a lot and I like a lot too.
3-Days of inservice down and 2 more to go.
4-Other women that like me quite a bit and I like too.
5-Days before the freshmen come back for the first day of school
6-Days before the upper classmen come back for their first day of school.
7-Number of karaoke songs I've sung this week.
8-Number of people I think I IMed yesterday.
9-More weeks and the first quarter will be over LOL

Well it was back to work today for me. I've been in a bit of a funk lately for several reasons but I think getting back to work will help me more than anything else.

Today we had a get together downtown and it was kind of interesting because we had the lady whose story was recounted in the movie Dangerous Minds which starred Michelle Pfeifer, as our keynote speaker. She is pretty good and entertaining as a speaker.

I got an extra long lunch and then this afternoon just started some preliminary work on getting ready for the school year which officially starts a week from today.

This should be a good year I think and I am now tenured so I don't have to have class observations and visitations like I have had the past three years.

I think one of the things that has been bothering me, has been this feeling that I am getting older and that the years seem to be flying by faster and faster. Of course there is nothing I can do about it, but as a Summer ends it is always a cold slap in the face to think of facing yet another school year.

I said the other day to a friend, "I am not upset or disappointed about my life. On the contrary I love my life and if I had to live it over I'd not have a different life. What I really want is another life . I want to keep the life I've already lived and live an entirely new one filled with fun and excitement. Not a better life, just another great one."

But, of course the laws of reality and nature don't cooperate. One other thing and that is that some financial stuff beyond my control has really annoyed me lately too.

But since I am unable to really change any of these things, the best thing is for me to make the best of the things I can change. One thing I've always liked about a new school year starting is the feeling of starting over, of getting a whole new group of kids, of throwing out dumb ideas that bombed and trying new ones to see if they'll work better.

I wouldn't change what I do for anything. That doesn't mean I wouldn't like to make more money, of course I would, but when I made the choice to dedicate my life to helping young people I have never looked back and said, "Wow, I really picked the wrong career path, what was I thinking?"

I still run into former students all the time, many times at karaoke. I wouldn't know them, but they still know me and they come up to me and say hello, which tells me I had a lasting influence on them. That to me makes it all worthwhile.

I can't do anything about getting older, but I can do something about living a life that is enjoyable and productive. That is what I can do.
That is what I will do.

Well unbelievably this Summer ends tomorrow for me. It's been a fun, mostly relaxing Summer but it has flown by so fast.

Around here schools start before Labor Day now, which is the bad news, but they end before Memorial Day which is the good news.

Personally I would prefer it the way it is here. Kids are much better behaved at the beginning of the year so having an extra week with them in August is far better than having them into June where they really just don't want to learn anything or even be there.

This past week there was a murder about 2 blocks from where I live. I heard the sirens but had no idea what was going on until later when I found out that a 25 year old man was shot to death down on the street corner where I drive past nearly three or four times a day.

This has been a really bad year for senseless violence and murder here. This is really a pretty safe neighborhood but that creeps me out. The victim was only 25 and he knew his killers and was even talking to them in their car moments before one of them pulled out a hand gun and killed him.

What I suppose troubles me more than anything else is the fact that people don't seem to care and nothing is ever done about it.

The mayor has asked for steps to try to stem the carnage which has been claiming lives at an alarming rate this past year including one of my students last year who was killed in a senseless drive by for being in the wrong place with the wrong people.

Aphorisms are little witticisms that have come down through time and are well known, such as, "A penny saved, is a penny earned". So time to come up with some funny aphorisms that are a little twisted.

A dumbass and a smartass differ only in their spelling.

Just when you think you've met the stupidest person in the world, someone comes along to disprove that theory.

The more some people talk, the less other people listen.

There are 7 deadly sins but most people personally practice at least one.

You can tell a lot about a person by the way they treat their pet.

Some people don't need an excuse to be a jerk, it just comes naturally to them.

Wow has this Summer ever gone by fast. It seems like the last day of school just happened to me and now I have next week and Monday and Tuesday of the following week and it's back for beginning of the year teacher's meetings.

I haven't been blogging too much lately, I guess it's because I'm not that inspired by anything too much and I hate to just write for the sake of writing.

Today there is a family get together at my cousin's house. It's from 1-5 but I don't plan to stay the entire time.

I know my uncle, my aunt and my mom will be there and probably a bunch of my cousins and their children and grandchildren. Yes, many of my cousins now have grandchildren too

I am pretty sure a couple of friends want to come over and hang out, so I'll probably skip karaoke and just hang out with them.

I've sang 3 times this week and so I don't feel a compelling need to go again, plus I can do without spending money.

Well I am in a pretty good mood today. Last night I went to karaoke where my friend Ronda now works. It is about 3 miles away from me as opposed to the Landslide which was about 10.

They have been running the prelims of a karaoke contest for three weeks at least. Last night there were 6 contestants including me and I ended up finishing 1st. Although the top three qualified it was flattering to be voted number 1 of those competing.

It is August now and my Summer is almost over. About a year ago I took a mini-vacation to Estes Park, Colorado, but this year my son and I went on our Yellowstone jaunt so I am just relaxing, staying up late and sleeping late until it's time to go back to school.

Next week there is going to be a big picnic to kick of my school's new program designed to attract students. They asked me to be the DJ in charge of music and karaoke so that should be interesting.

Anyway, I am really enjoying a return to the discussion groups which I had sort of drifted away from a little bit. The discussion groups have always been one of the most enjoyable aspects of friendfinder. I like to interact with people discussing movies, music and even now politics.

Since December of 2005, I have been a moderator of my own discussion groups. Two of these groups are in still in the top ten on the list of most popular groups. Lately they have been taking off again in popularity.

I suppose it helps that I'm home for Summer vacation and have time to generate new discussions and respond to others who post there.

Summer is going by way too fast but Fall is my favorite season of the year. The weather cools off and of course football starts too.

1-my finish tonight in a 6 person karaoke contest. I qualified for the semi-finals singing the Gambler by Kenny Rogers.

Last Minute Monday Reflections :) Jul 30, 2007 11:04 pm

Well technically it's Tuesday here, but in FF time it's still Monday night. Have spent most of this day doing very little LOL

Have been on friendfinder a lot today, but also took the time out to run a couple short errands and to fix a big lunch and then clean up my kitchen.

Whoever stole July, give it back. I hate to see July go, because it means that it's almost time for school to start again. It seems like Summer just began and yet it's now a full 8 weeks gone.

Ah well I still have about 2.5 weeks left. I am excited about the college football season starting up that is one thing I do like about the Summer ending.

It has not been a boring Summer. In fact it's been a pretty good Summer for me overall. In June I got a chance to see some really nice folks I'd met a month earlier at my brother's funeral when they came here for his memorial service.

I had fun hobnobbing down at the College World Series the first weekend it was in town. Karaoke has been fun on Tuesdays but my Fridays haven't been as much fun once the Landslide died.

On June 30th my son flew into town for two weeks. We managed to spend quite a bit of time hanging out together. He had a big get together at the house and a big fireworks display. The next day we went on our big Summer road trip to the Grand Tetons and Yellowstone. We had a blast and did a lot of things that we didn't do in 2005 when we went there.

Work at my other job has not been too productive but that is fairly normal in the Summer. I never take things too seriously and just go with the flow because much of that is beyond my control.

I stay up very late and sleep late which is really my preference. I am NOT an early morning person except by necessity. Give me a 1:00 AM or later bed time and let me sleep til 9 am and I am on cloud nine. I never would have survived a military lifestyle. A Spartan I am NOT .

I managed to get out to the new Harry Potter flick on Saturday a week ago. I actually liked it very much although those who have read the book are not as fond of it from what I've heard.

Originally I was kind of hoping to take one more jaunt this Summer down to Miami Beach to visit my daughter but I don't think that it's going to work for several reasons, so I'll just have to put it at the top of my to do list for soon.

My other job is hosting an international business conference in September. I am excited because I am planning on attending some of it this year. In 2005 I missed the signup when a special friend was in town visiting for a week, so this will be the first one I've attended since 2003.

In the romance department I am not saying anything except that I get lots of online attention and that's the way I prefer it right now .

It has been hot around here but about normal for late July. Anyway one more day of July and then it's already August and in two weeks school starts back up with teacher meetings
