Solitary Un-regret (revision) Aug 2, 2008 11:32 pm

I am suddenly not afraid of growing old
alone. Each time is the last
and I do not mind to see you smile
or look into the crook of your eyes
as they wander into mine.
There are years to thread
and walk in solitary un-regret.
This night (this now) reveals
what I've kept hidden from myself:
that I am not half-read
and time is not my only option.
Surely I will sag into decades
of misuse, lines like echoes
repeating my mistakes.
But only in the daylight
will you see them, so cleverly
are they disguised,
so heavenly was my youth.

"Judging Natalie as my mother had judged me was, I felt like telling her son, just my ass-backward way of showing love. I'd spent my life trying to translate that language, and now I realized I had come to speak it fluently. When was it that you realized the thread woven through your DNA carried the relationship deformitiies of your blood relatives as much as it did their diabetes or bone density?"

(reprinted upon request for you Leeessa Beeesa)

*Brother*

Your garden was
remarkable
and free from pests
everyone said
I ate
the artichoke paste
and even then
the teen-aged texture
of your hand
forged my taste.

We waited
for our mother,
yield-spread
in graceless feast
it was legend made
then granted,
waved on the spoon-end
of an artichoke.

There was no assurance
from year to year
who knows
which day
the rabbits and deer
overtook the garden
whole seasons
spent unspoken
the planting remains
entangled and seeding.

Later,
wrapped
in my winter smile,
and in the late-ringing distance,
you spoke in tones
of crackled sun-split corn
and acorn squash
left in hardened lumps
of plunder
for the deer.

OK, I'm not sure and I really don't care much, but how did someone with only 7 votes win the silly captions contest? They posted all three captions in the same comment, as did I and I got 16 votes.

Huh.

FF math.

*shrugs off into the distance muttering I didn't want no stinkin' ball anyhow...*

Sleeve-less Jul 12, 2008 6:33 pm

My sleeve it tired, so I think I'll take my brand-spanking new pair of blue jeans out for a twirl tonight. That way I can leave my sleeve at home and wander heartlessly through the murky masses. Well, admittedly I'll be dancing through but who is really reading this anyway, eh?

Eh?

Quit smoking, that is...
(you naughty!)

Sign up here. No promises,
just the desire to try.
I'm starting right now.
I'll let you know...

I feel like crap, had pneumonia
last fall and can feel that
same ole congestion
burbling up again.
So now is the time.

Anyone?

Anyone?

Death takes to the restless soul
like smoke to the lung,
the careless cling
to the long last night.

It is sinew etched
in the deep killian light
flashing only
for the breathless few.

Words are bedfellow magic
to the seventh price.

Death is promised
the writer's due.
