My students have figured out how to hack into my private mispace profile and view and change it! I searched the web and found a ton of tricks on how to do these things. You can view comments that are set to private, and yes - view a private profile. I will not try to do any of these things, because I AM A GOOD EXAMPLE TO OTHERS. (note: halo)

Now...I am not sure what to do about this. Luckily, I knew it would be only a matter of time so nothing damaging is on the space (just poems...and stories...and oh, let's think back on Caterpillar's favorite pastime, shall we?). However, I cannot for the life of me think how they found it. There is absolutely nothing on my profile or in my registration info that indicates who or where I am.

The Sheep Nazi Nov 25, 2008 10:40 pm

Today I lost my cool.

I had become

the sheep Nazi.

Oh yes.

Little bodies, six years old, all a skitter about the holiday, uncontrolled body parts flailing about.

"BABABABABA" says one small girl, unable to stop "BABABABABA" then "TETETETETETE" from the boy next to her. "BABA" "TETETETE"

"OK, 1-2-3, then we'll all sing Ba Ba Black Sheep." I clap.

BABABABTETETETE

"Let's move to our tables and then we'll do our craft...But, hey, listen up, if you can't pay attention, then NO SHEEP FOR YOU. Here's a sheep for you and one for you but NO SHEEP FOR YOU."

Ha! That'll learn 'em.

eh?

Heads down. The "I really can't believe I'm only in kindergarten and I already hate the library teacher" look settles across the room.

Oh, all right. "Here, you can have a sheep but let's all listen for directions now." Sheep cutouts and ears and eyes and fluffy puff and glue sticks make their way into happy hands. Eyes turn upward in a chorus of gratitude.

"Now," I firmly state, "be sure you only put the glue on the..."

"BABABABABTETETETEBABABABABAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA"

Afterword... Nov 20, 2008 1:57 pm

or fore-word?

I'd rather read an afterword, and leave a novel, especially those highly-unresolved ones, with a feeling that life does indeed go on. Characters have a way of traveling with us long after we finish a book, can even come to us months or years later to float through our mind's eye. With apparation appearances they are with us and seem so real! - and like we would a disconnected friend we briefly wonder at what they might be up to these days.

The suddenness with which we remember we only knew them for 342 pages startles and surprises. But, what did the afterword say? Could they, too, be going on about their lives in the author's after-world, some dimly cloaked alternative universe where book characters go to retire, plotting sweet sequel revenges? I'd like to think it's so, and that one day I will turn the page to find my oldest friends, happier...ever...afterward.

There will only be me looking into each moment, alone and unharmed, goverened and charmed by my own consolation. No prize that, but it beats the familiar unfaithfulness I have to myself, the need to deny and look for further complications. Already I believe this time will be different, but how do I know? for each minute passes with its own will. And still, I am hoping already that this time I will know: to stay alone is the apex of my search and my consolidation.

How many can you name? Nov 2, 2008 7:23 am

William Logan of the NY Times writes in his review of the book "Words in Air":

A poet should never fall in love with another poet — love is already too much like gambling on oil futures. Two poets in love must succumb to the same folie à deux as the actor and the actress, the magician and the fellow magician, because each knows already the flaws beneath the greasepaint, the pigeons hidden in top hats, all the pockmarked truth beneath illusion. Real lovers, Shakespeare long ago reminded us, have reeking breath and hair like a scouring pad.

Lovers may be permitted an exception to this ironclad rule, if they never achieve the bliss of consummation — and therefore never have to wake to the beloved’s morning breath the morning after. Many would-be lovers have been divided by family, law or plain bad luck; before the days of long-distance phone calls or e-mail, the sublimated affair was conducted by postage stamp. The letters of Nietzsche and Lou Andreas-Salomé, Pirandello and Marta Abba, Gautier and Carlotta Grisi show that, though literature has always been good for love (think how many seductions may be chalked up to Shakespeare’s sonnets), love was even better for literature if there was a mailbox nearby.

How many "couple" poets or writers can you name?

I'll start - Ted Hughes and Sylvia Plath.

I am afraid these days of my words. It's not a fear that what I will write will punish or burn, but that what I write will lack any fire at all. The urge hasn't waned, certainly, but circumstance has waxed, and unsurprisingly I've come to understand that to write I need a very specific set of conditions, none the least of which is angst, half of which is alcohol, and most of which is loneliness.

Well. Hrm. *pauses to sip.*

But. splutter. I've got x,y,z. Honest. Oh.

yes.

time.

I'm simply out of practice.

who to contact
in case of an emergency
should I cease to breathe
and not attend
to
peril.
I have left that field
just a pen's lick away
from numbers and names
that come to mind.
each form it's the same -
pause and retreat -
as I think
of the call
and the
answer.

To you - what is the definition and/or etymology of the word dork?

My secret source says it means something that I can't BELIEVE. So I am asking you.

What does it really mean?
