| Who Says There Can't be no Flood on a Mountain? |
May 12, 2008 8:54 am Mood: serious, 845 Views | | Been rainin' all week up in these parts. HEAVY, soaking rain with high winds yesterday afternoon and all night. Rainin' again today. Temp only in the 40's! VERY uncharacteristic for May! I was on my way home about 1AM this morning but the road goin' up the mountain was sealed off by a very large fallen tree. So I turned around and as I drove back down the mountain in the pourin rain and howlin' icy wind, a brown river of water had burst forth from above and covered the road with mud and rocks, but I made it down OK. I took a detour around the other side of the mountain and made it home safely but the rivers of water had even carved gulleys in MY driveway 1,300 feet UP from creeks where there used to be NONE running through my steep back yard. The Shenendoah River has become brown and turbulent and the trees along its banks are becoming submerged at the base of their trunks. | |
