Tutti Moderato!
My great-grandmother used to scream at me -- as I was scooping my 15th tablespoon full of sugar onto my Cheerios, "Arturo, tutti moderato!!!" She was telling me to go easy on the sugar. But the literal meaning is "always moderation."

I guess the words stuck. My Liberal friends call me Conservative ... but one of the "good ones." My Conservative friends call me a Liberal ... but not a "pinhead like most."

I'm a Moderate. A born-again Christian. A secular drummer, guitarist, bassist and keyboardist. I'm also an award winning (secular) songwriter. And I am a psychiatric social worker. Having such a diverse background has helped me become someone who often sees there are other options other than "left" OR "right."

For example: remember the heated debate about taking DNA samples of rapists and child molesters?

The right-wing said, "Yes! This way when they get out and commit another rape, we have their DNA on record."

The left-wing said, "No! It's uncons tit utional and pre-supposes they'll commit another crime after they've paid their debt to society."

I said, "Yer both daft! We should be discussing why the hell these maggots are ever let out of jail in the first place. Life without parole is the only appropriate punishment for a rapist. And if you 'do' a child ..." Well, I don't think it be appropriate to publish the consequences of such an act.

Most of us are somewhat moderate, but we've all been co-opted by the radicals at both ends of the political spectrum.

Hopefully, this blog will piss both sides off.

CINDY McCAIN REFUSING TO DISCLOSE HER TAX RETURNS May 9, 2008 12:24 pm
Mood: amused, 36 Views
Remember when Bill was running for President? He and Hillary used to file separate tax returns then ... and she refused to disclose her tax returns saying that it was a private matter.

The right-wing radio-head's screamed bloody murder! They demanded she disclose her tax returns as a sign of good faith with the country.

"What kind of dishonesty is she hiding," they said. "Do YOU want a First Lady that keeps secrets from us? Is she afraid people will reject her husband when they see just how wealthy she is?"

Meanwhile, the few left-wing raido-heads are crying foul. "Of course it's a private matter!" they moan. "SHE'S not running, HE is, and it's nobody's business WHAT she earns."

Well, now Cindy McCain is refusing to disclose HER tax returns and says she's refusing because it's a private matter.

And the right-wing radio-heads are once again screaming bloody murder. "Of course it's a private matter!" they moan. "SHE'S not running, HE is, and it's nobody's business WHAT she earns."

The left-wingers? They are seething. "What kind of dishonesty is she hiding," they're saying. "Do YOU want a First Lady that keeps secrets from us? Is she afraid people will reject her husband when they see just how wealthy she is?"

Interesting how the turd-heads formulate opinion NOT based on right or wrong, but on the political allegiance of the person their discussing.

The Garbage Truck Apr 15, 2008 6:18 am

From the desk of my Aunt Nancy:

One day I hopped in a taxi and we took off for the airport. We were driving in the right lane when suddenly a black car jumped out of a parking space right in front of us. My taxi driver slammed on his breaks, skidded, and missed the other car by just inches! The driver of the other car whipped his head around and started yelling at us. My taxi driver just smiled and waved at the guy. And I mean, he was really friendly.

So I asked, 'Why did you just do that? This guy almost ruined your car and sent us to the hospital!' This is when my taxi driver taught me what I now call, 'The Law of the Garbage Truck.'

He explained that many people are like garbage trucks. They run around full of garbage, full of frustration, full of anger, and full of disappointment. As their garbage piles up, they need a place to dump it and sometimes they'll dump it on you. [This is known as 'transference' in the psychoanalytical world]

Don't take it personally. Just smile, wave, wish them well, and move on. Don't take their garbage and spread it to other people at work, at home, or on the streets.

The bottom line is that successful people do not let garbage trucks take over their day. Life's too short to wake up in the morning with regrets, so . . . .

'Love the people who treat you right. Pray for the ones who don't.'

The Bird-Feeder Email Apr 11, 2008 3:49 pm
Mood: flabergasted, 189 Views
I recently got the following email which was written by someone who is, clearly, 359º to the right; so far "right" as to make Rush Limbaugh seem like Dennis Kucinich:

"I bought a bird feeder. I hung it on my back porch and filled it with seed. Within a week we had hundreds of birds taking advantage of the continuous flow of free and easily accessible food....So I took down the bird feeder and in three days the birds were gone. Soon, the back yard was like it used to be .... quiet and serene.

Now let's see; our government gives out free food to the poor (cheese, eggs, bread, milk and/or food stamps), subsidizes their housing (Section 8 and "rent control"), gives everyone in our country a free education (grades K-12), provides medical care / insurance (Medicare and Medicaid) to those who have little or nothing and -- most amazingly -- actually allows everyone born here in this country to be a citizen of this country!"

The email went on and on, but that was as far as I read because I knew where it was going and I was afraid my head would explode.

But what prompted me to blog a response was the implication that it is wrong for people born in this country to be citizens of this country. We all know how the far-right wing feels about a country taking care of it's people; it makes many gnash their teeth. But to object to people born here being citizens is beyond belief! One must wonder then how the writer envisions us becoming citizens of our country. A test, perhaps, to demonstrate an understanding of American History and to ensure the candidate for citizenship is literate?

But the writer also scorns the right to a "free" government sponsored education from K-12. It seems the writer feels an elementary through high school education should be fee-driven. Of course, that would prevent many parents of poor and middle class children being able to afford a basic education. Then, how could these children "pass the test" to be a citizen when they're not educated? Do they then become an illegal alien in the country of their birth?

The bottom line was I thought that email to be typical radical right-winged rhetoric promoting purely evil shoddenfreudist ideology.

People on the far right, often claiming to be Christians covered by the Blood of the Lamb, condemn Moderates and Liberals for supporting government subsidized nutrition, housing and medical programs. Ted Kennedy, for example -- who often seems to be out of his booze-pickled mind with his policies -- is vilified as a socialist and communist for believing that the government should ensure that no one in our nation ever go hungry or have unmet medical needs.

I believe that Jesus will judge governments in a manner akin to how He will judge us. Of course, we Christians want our government to conduct itself according to the examples and standards Jesus has set forth. Ironically, that is the trumpet call for right-wingers; to have government conduct itself in a manner which Jesus would approve because we're a Christian nation founded on Christian principals and God will only bless America if America submits to the Will of God.

So, what does Jesus say about giving people food, medical care, etc.? Let's take a peek at the book
of Matthew, Chapter 25:

31"When the Son of Man comes in his glory, and all the angels with him, he will sit on his throne in heavenly glory. 32All the nations will be gathered before him, and he will separate the people one from another as a shepherd separates the sheep from the goats. 33He will put the sheep on his right and the goats on his left.

34"Then the King will say to those on his right, 'Come, you who are blessed by my Father; take your inheritance, the kingdom prepared for you since the creation of the world. 35 For I was hungry and you gave me something to eat, I was thirsty and you gave me something to drink, I was a stranger and you invited me in, 36 I needed clothes and you clothed me, I was sick and you looked after me, I was in prison and you came to visit me.'

37"Then the righteous will answer him, 'Lord, when did we see you hungry and feed you, or thirsty and give you something to drink? 38When did we see you a stranger and invite you in, or needing clothes and clothe you? 39When did we see you sick or in prison and go to visit you?'

40"The King will reply, 'I tell you the truth, whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers of mine, you did for me.'

41"Then he will say to those on his left, 'Depart from me, you who are cursed, into the eternal fire prepared for the devil and his angels. 42For I was hungry and you gave me nothing to eat, I was thirsty and you gave me nothing to drink, 43I was a stranger and you did not invite me in, I needed clothes and you did not clothe me, I was sick and in prison and you did not look after me.'

44"They also will answer, 'Lord, when did we see you hungry or thirsty or a stranger or needing clothes or sick or in prison, and did not help you?'

45"He will reply, 'I tell you the truth, whatever you did not do for one of the least of these, you did not do for me.'

46"Then they will go away to eternal punishment, but the righteous to eternal life."

So, wanting to be among His sheep, I say, "Put that bird feeder back up, lest we go away to eternal punishment!" So, to be one of His sheep ... to be on His RIGHT, it seems like we need to adopt the policies of the left-wing; feeding the hungry, giving medical care, etc.

It just amazes me how the right-wing -- while waxing poetic about keeping the US a Christian Nation -- vehemently fight against the very policies Jesus said will gain eternal life, and praise those who support polices Jesus said will cause them eternal punishment!

And now, the original sender of the email has a problem with giving children an education??? Has a problem with people born here being a citizen??? Sure - then many will be forced into menial labor, groveling at the feet of their "owners;" the Shoddenfreudist agenda finally fulfilled.

And that, my dear brothers and sisters, is the epitome of evil, and gives Lucifer great delight.

Sorry ... had to speak my piece about that.
