Surprise! Dec 12, 2007 10:23 am

As darkness descends over a snow covered plain and a dense fog envelops the landscape, a solitary figure stands on a hill looking over a land he has been missing. The armor he wears is slightly tarnished and nicked from battle but he has faired well on his journey and is glad to be home.
A cold breeze blows through his long hair as he begins to approach the village below. The crunching of his boots in the snow begins to quicken as he draws near the inviting warmth of friends he has been away from far too long...
...................

Wow! I can't believe the date on my last post. Has it been that long? I have a lot of catching up to do. Life has been tossing me a lot of lemons but being the man I am... I have gallons of lemonade now.

I've missed this place. Actually to be more precise, I've missed you. All of you. It's been a busy and challenging few months and I am still under siege by the dark forces but I have gained control of the field and will soon set the foe to rout.

Some have written to ask about Joan, my ex wife and best friend. She is doing ok. The cancer has not spread as predicted which gives me hope that the alternative treatments she is pursuing are working.
.................................................

How 'bout a couple of stale jokes?

Sir Edgbert, knight of the realm, was hurrying home on a cold, dark, wet night when, suddenly, his horse suffered a major coronary and died on the spot. All Sir Edgbert could do was collect up what belongings he could and tramp onwards.

After staggering for a spell, he decides that he must get alternative transport. Accordingly, he heads for the nearest building which, as luck would have it, is a small farm.
He strides up to the door, bangs on it and shouts "A horse! A horse!. I must have a horse!".

The door opens to reveal a young girl. She looks at Sir Edgbert and says, "Your pardon, good Knight but my father and brothers are returning from the village on the other side of the forest and will not be back before noon tomorrow. They are riding all our horses".

Sir Edgbert is saddened by this and says "But I must return home immediately. Have you any idea where I may acquire alternative transportation?".

The young girl says "I know of no other horses hereabouts, but sometimes my brothers ride our Great Dane dog when the need arises. Would use of that help?"

Sir Edgbert is desperate and says "If I must, I must. Show me the animal".

The young girl leads the way around to the back of the farmhouse to a stable. She disappears inside and returns leading and enormous dogs which is quite of a size for riding.

Unfortunately, the dog has seen better days. It's coat is threadbare, it's legs are spindly and it seems to be breathing laboriously.

Sir Edgbert looks at the young girl and says, "Surely, you wouldn't send a knight out on a dog like this?"

Bill was short of money and was out looking for a job. Pastor Nelson offered Bill $500 to buy paint and paint the church.
Bill went out bought some paint and started painting the church. He discovered that he was using more paint than he expected so he added some thinner to the paint. It covered but not as well as it did at first.

He still was using more paint than he wanted to use so he added still more thinner to the paint.
The paint was too thin to cover well but Bill still kept on painting.
All of a sudden there was a bolt of lighting and a loud voice from the sky proclaimed,
"Repaint and thin no more."

If you can read this I want you! Ha ha I want everyone from here to come to the BlogStock 2008 Rendezvous so help me find the common ground please.
The date on the iteninary Itinerary for BlogStock 2008 is just a suggestion.
Please vote on the date that would work the best for you. In a couple of weeks I will take the date that gets the most votes and start setting up the schedule around it.
May 16th - 18th. A little cool for camping in the nearby mountains but the local KOA campground would work
May 23rd -25th. Memorial weekend. Tuff to schedule but if this works for the majority I'll bust my armor to make it work
May 24th- 26th Same as above except using Memorial day Monday instead of Friday for the third day
June 6th- 8th Usually great weather here
June 13th -15th Are you supersticious about Rendezvousing on Friday the 13th?
June 20th -22nd It can be very warm in Pueblo in late June. 100 degrees plus is not uncommon
??? Gimme your suggestion?

Itinerary for BlogStock 2008 Sep 5, 2007 5:08 pm
Mood: enthusiastic, 1968 Views
Dare to dream big is my thought. So here goes. All times are "ish" Ya gotta be flexible right?

Itinerary for Blogstock!2008

Location: Pueblo, Colorado. May 16th through May 18th 2008 The date is still flexible but I need input so that I can start arranging reservations.

Friday May 16th-
8 AM to 11 AM. Location, Pueblo City Park.
Meet and greet and breakfast.

A nice location to spend time while waiting for members to arrive, and within a short drive from either camping facilities or hotels by the Riverwalk. There I can help guide or transport people to where they would like to stay for the rendezvous. Meet Vincent the Goat

11 AM to 6 PM- Get Settled. Set up your camp, check into your room, take a nap and refresh, or just look around Pueblo for items for the Scavenger Hunt. Perhaps a trip to Cripple Creek for some gambling or a tour of the Sangre De Christo's.

7 PM to 11 PM- A banquet, karaoke and jam session for us fledgling musicians. Location still pending.

11 PM till tomorrow. It's written in the stars. Love to show you some of the pubs on the Union Avenue Historical District. There is one that reminds me of a Mexican Cantina that I particulary enjoy.

.................................................

Saturday May 17th-
9 AM to 10 AM. Cosmopolitan breakfast
at a location to be determined

10 AM to 3 PM. A picnic, softball and or hiking in Pueblo Mountain Park in Beulah.

3 PM to 7 Pm. R and R. Get ready for Blogstock Blowout or I can give you a guided tour of Pueblo's Nature Walk along the Arkansas River.

7 PM till ?? Blogstock Blowout. I was thinking a costume ball? Dinner and dancing at the Riverwalk Banquet Hall.Gonna try to round up a band.
"It Was A Dark And Bloggy Knight". An interactive who dunnit with a prize for the first person to solve the "crime".

.................................................

Sunday, May 18th.
9 Am to 11 AM -Breakfast/brunch
. I am assuming we will all want to sleep late after a night of revelry

11 AM till 3 PM. A car wash with proceeds going to The Make A Wish Foundation,

7 PM Final dinner. I was leaning towards a luau. You know, An aloha dinner. Considering a good location.

I think I have our first couple of sponsors sponsors lined up. A meat market that could prove invaluable and a western clothing shop who wouldn't donate any money but has given some items for prizes.

Still need your best poetry and photos.

I don't ask for help easily, it's not who I am but I need this. This is one of the reasons I haven't been around FF much lately.
My best friend who happens to be my former wife has been diagnosed with breast cancer. It is a very large tumor.

I am a devout believer in the power of prayer and I ask you as my friend to pray for Joan, or if it is your way, to send her the white light of healing. She is an amazing Lady and you would love her as much as I do.

Ok, technically it isn't Saturday but I didn't have time yesterday so I'm gonna combine the Saturday edition with the Sunday supplement.

I hope everyone who is interested found the website for Blogstock. Whew! Check back occasionally as I'm updating almost daily. If you have any links you would like to put up there I included a member link page. There is also a Paypal donation link so if you have any wealthy relatives with big hearts send them the link.
As soon as there are funds in the account I will be pressing you to volunteer to be an account monitor or contacting you if you have already volunteered.

Speaking of Blogstock! 2008.... Ari pointed out that the name has been used frequently before. I tried to think of a different term but found that every synonym I came up with has also been used. Soooo if you have any thoughts, let us know. A couple of other ideas I had on that...

1- Keep the name and make ours the "mother of all Blogstocks!"
2- Rendezvous By The River
3-The Muster
4-FF Blogstock 2008

It seems that the weekend of May 17th through the 19th works better for some, so barring objection I have penciled that in.

I've been in contact with a company about printing the calendar and they also print books. Maybe we could get a better price on a package deal.

I know I said I would post the itinary yesterday but I want to do some more work on it first. Just to whet your appetite these are the highlights...

A meet and greet breakfast at The Pueblo City Park.
A dinner and jam session and Karaoke at the Riverwalk Banquet Hall.
A picnic, softball and or hiking in Pueblo Mountain Park in Beulah
A three day scavenger hunt with a prize for the winner.
The Blogstock Banquet and Costume Ball with an interactive "who dunnit" game. A prize for the sleuth who solves the case.
An Aloha Luau on the final night.

Short Quiz
The following short quiz consists of 4 questions and will tell you whether you are qualified to be a professional. The questions are NOT that difficult.

1. How do you put a giraffe into a refrigerator?

Correct Answer: Open the refrigerator, put in the giraffe, and close the door. This question tests whether you tend to do simple things in an overly complicated way.

2. How do you put an elephant into a refrigerator?

Did you say, Open the refrigerator, put in the elephant, and close the refrigerator?

Wrong Answer.

Correct Answer: Open the refrigerator, take out the giraffe, put in the elephant and close the door. This tests your ability to think through the repercussions of your previous actions.

3. The Lion King is hosting an animal conference. All the animals attend.... except one. Which animal does not attend?

Correct Answer: The Elephant. The elephant is in the refrigerator. You just put him in there. This tests your memory.

Okay, even if you did not answer the first three questions correctly, you still have one more chance to show your true abilities.

4. There is a river you must cross but it is used by crocodiles, and you do not have a boat. How do you manage it?

Correct Answer: You jump into the river and swim across. Have you not been listening? All the crocodiles are attending the animal Meeting. This tests whether you learn quickly from your mistakes

First of all, I want to apologize for not visiting my friends blogs much the last couple of weeks. Please know I love ya and pretty soon things will settle back to normal.
In the meantime....

I put up a simple webpage that will continue to expand and improve. As FF won't allow links I need to improvise about the address.

Have you ever red the directions to Never Never Land? It is the second star on the right and straight on till morning. Blogstock! is found at the first star on the right (done without the spaces and with a committment to meeting all of you). Slash your budgets to make it to blogstock. Slash your schedule in May to come to blogstock. Don't even think about missing it!

I'll send the addess in a less cryptic form to the members I have addresses for and request they pass it along.

Stay tuned and send me your original poetry and pics!!

Shorter is better for the calendar. Long ones will work for the book. Here's your chance at getting your work published.
If you read one you like here, post a comment to let us know.

Sunday Supplement- Poems, Pics and publishing Aug 5, 2007 7:47 pm
1920 Views
I finished a tentative itinerary for Blogstock! but I want to tweak it a bit and check out some more resources before I post it for comments.

In the meantime....

RSVP if you would. Numbers attract media which attracts sponsors. I feel this should be about all FriendFinder members and not just bloggers so if you are a non blogger, enter and sign in please anyway.

Ok make that, click on the link below and pick a response. Hopefully Yes
How say you?

Ari had a terrific idea about publishing a book of poetry from the membership. I have basically zilch experience in this field but I did some surfing and the best price I found so far is one company that would print 50 200 page books for 250 dollars. I don't know how much a paperback book of poetry goes for these days but that sounds a little steep. Anyone know of a more economical way?
Please submit your own poetry if you would like to be considered for inclusion in the book or the calendar. Proceeds to help fund the rendezvous.

Also need high resolution member photos of their native lands. If you would like to see your photo on the calendar please post a sample.

I am going to put up a seperate sticky post blog for Poems and for Pictures. Make me proud people!

Hmmm No joke yesterday so how about this one...

lipstick

According to a news report, a certain private school in Victoria,
BC recently was faced with a unique problem.

A number of grade 12 girls were putting lipstick on in the restroomroom. That was fine, but after they put on their lipstick they would press their lips to the mirror leaving dozens of little lip prints.

Every night, the maintenance man would remove them and the next day, the girls would put them back.

Finally the principal decided that something had to be done.
She called all the girls to the bathroom and met them there with the maintenance man. She explained that all these lip prints were causing a major problem for the custodian who had to clean the mirrors every night.

To demonstrate how difficult it had been to clean the mirrors, she asked the maintenance man to show the girls how much effort was required.

He took out a long-handled squeegee, dipped it in the toilet, and cleaned the mirror with it.

Since then, there have been no lip prints on the mirror.
