Changes In Latitudes, Changes In Attitudes

I took off for a weekend last month
Just to try and recall the whole year
All of the faces and all of the places
Wonderin' where they all disappeared
I didn't ponder the question too long
I was hungry and went out for a bite
Ran into a chum with a bottle of rum
And we wound up drinkin all night

Chorus:
It's those changes in latitudes, changes in attitudes
Nothing remains quite the same
With all of our running and all of our cunning
If we couldn't laugh we would all go insane

Reading departure signs in some big airport
Reminds me of the places I've been
Visions of good times that brought so much pleasure
Makes me want to go back again
If it suddenly ended tomorrow
I could somehow adjust to the fall
Good times and riches and of a bitches
I've seen more than I can recall

Chorus:
These changes in latitudes, changes in attitudes
Nothing remains quite the same
Through all of the islands and all of the highlands
If we couldn't laugh we would all go insane

I think about Paris when I'm high on red wine
I wish I could jump on a plane
So many nights I just dream of the ocean
God I wish I was sailin' again
Oh, yesterday's over my shoulder
So I can't look back for too long
There's just too much to see waiting in front of me
And I know that I just can't go wrong

Chorus:
With these changes in latitudes, changes in attitudes
Nothing remains quite the same
With all of my running and all of my cunning
If I couldn't laugh I just would go insane
If we couldn't laugh we just would go insane
If we weren't all crazy we would go insane

Personal note, it is always good to look at something different! I am looking forward to seeing something different.

I hope you hare happy and well. Have a wonderful weekend. Randy

“The definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over and expecting a different result.” (A quote by Albert Einstein) How does this idea relate to the daily routine/ grind of our lives? A structure to one’s life can include work, school, or other responsibilities that are part of most of our days. However, going through this day-to-day existence without interest, passion, or enthusiasm has to qualify as a type of insanity? Too often people do their daily routines without engaging with what is going on around them. They appear too busy because they are hurrying to arrive at some appointment, looking at their phones, or listening on their headphones to see what is happening around them. Isn’t it time to try something different and stop the insanity? Say hello to a stranger. Try to learn something new and different. Take a different route to work, or school. Don’t continue doing the same thing to only discover that you don’t have the life you hoped and dreamed you would.

I hope you are happy and well. Have a wonderful day.

What impression are we making on others? When we meet someone, our minds create an impression for that person. One sees a picture of a person, and they make assumptions based on how the person is dressed. If the person has glasses, then the assumption is the person might have intelligence? A person not dressed well might be seen as poor and uneducated? Many times the assumptions we make are incorrect about the people we meet. Is this wrong?

Who are you?

Who are you? This question can have many answers. One might say they are the product of their education. Another might answer that they are the product of their environment. How we define ourselves gives others insight into how we think, feel, and believe. Also, how much we reveal about ourselves allows others to have a deeper connection with us.

When you think about yourself, what comes to your mind? Do you know you? Can you say with confidence that this is who I am? The ability to recognize your strengths and weaknesses gives you an overview of you, but there is much more.

The better able you are to answer the question; who are you? The better able you will be to answer the next question. Who do you want to be?

I hope you are happy and well. Have a wonderful day.

friends are sitting on a bench, gazing at the water. It had been a day navigating crowds, roller coasters, arcades, and dripping strawberry ice cream.

Tell me the meaning of life?

The meaning of life is simple. You are born, you live, and you die. People tend to complicate life’s progression, but it is not that hard.

You are born, you live, and you die? That is all you have as the meaning of life? What about love, hopes, and dreams, and all that add color to ’s life?

Those are unnecessary complications! It is true that we experience many things while we go through our lives, but you are speaking mostly about intangible concepts that really have no function with the meaning of life.

That is a cynical approach to life.

Is it? Tell me what each day requires to do? Do you have to love? Do you have to dream, or hope? What you have to do is fulfill your basic survival functions, then you move on to the next day.

Love, dreams, and hopes are essential to life! I am not diounting the survival instincts, but there has to be more to life than you are born, you live, then you die? If life is only to exist, then why do we have the capacity to love, hope, and dream? Is it the human condition that we believe in love, hope, and dreams?

Sometimes it seems that the human condition complicates our life? We think too much, but all we need to do is to take care of our need for food and shelter.

The meaning of life has to include the ability to love, hope, and dream. Life cannot be as simple as the need for survival because humans do have the capacity for thought. Love, hope, and dreams are not complications. They are essential for human survival.

What perspective is the more “valid,” or rational point of view? Are there other meanings of life?

Sometimes the story is not about you

A recent discussion with a friend kept returning to the same dialog and theme. It was all “I, I, I, I, etc.” This was not a discussion about feelings, or perceptions. It was “I want this, I want that, I am doing all the work, I am …etc.” While trying to be supportive and positive, the constant thought was; "where is the concern for others?" It feels like everything is focused solely on one’s personal story, and there is an inability to see another’s point of view? This type of discussion has become more frequent while meeting others. Is this something that is unique to people living in the USA? Is this common, everywhere? How did we get to this place?

I hope you are happy and well. Have a wonderful day.

These are lyrics from a song that has been in my thoughts for a while. It is mostly about remembering those who touched our lives, and those we miss. It is just something I wanted to share.

It's been a long day without you, my friend
And I'll tell you all about it when I see you again
We've come a long way from where we began
Oh, I'll tell you all about it when I see you again

So let the light guide your way, yeah
Hold every memory as you go
And every road you take
Will always lead you home, home
It's been a long day without you, my friend
And I'll tell you all about it when I see you again
We've come a long way from where we began
Oh, I'll tell you all about it when I see you again
When I see you again
When I see you again (see you again, yeah)
When I see you again

I hope you are happy and well. Have a wonderful day.

Open Minded

A recent diussion involved the idea of open mindedness. This has always been a fainating topic because there are many definitions of open mindedness. How does achieve open mindedness? What does it mean to be open minded?

There are many factors that influence how thinks about open mindedness. Personal factors, such as faith and bias, can influence open mindedness. Also, there are cultural factors such as where you live, and where you have lived. Are there levels of open mindedness?

Striving for open mindedness may not be as simple as saying “I am open minded.” To be open minded is to consider other perspectives, opinions, and options. The ability to see beyond self seems to be important? It would be ful and interesting to know what others think about open mindedness?

I hope you are happy and well. Have a wonderful day.

The setting is a bar where 2 longtime friends have met to discuss life. As they settle in for the evening, they begin to wonder about “life.”

Another birthday will soon visit you?

Yes, another birthday?

You seem ambivalent about your birthday? Why are you not in the mood to celebrate another year lived?

When I was young, birthdays were always special …my day! Now, they seem mostly like mileage markers to an unknown destination on a road.

That is not a positive perspective. The years that have passed have provided you with the knowledge about who you are? You are the total of all your experiences, good and bad.

It is true that I better understand myself. I know that I am not interested in fame, fortune, and power. It is better for me to share time with family, friends, and loved ones.

That is a better mindset. Why not focus on something positive?

It is the negative that tends to get my attention. Maybe it is too easy to focus on the negative? Maybe it is self indulgent to focus on the negative? Do you plan to buy me another drink to celebrate my birthday?

As the evening progresses, more friends visit. What questions do they ask? What are their opinions about birthdays? This is an interactive conversation.
