(EMPTY SHADOW- extract)

I'm just another shadow
in a broken dream.
I flow in the darkness
and I'm never what I seem.
I cling to empty places,
turn my face from the light;
can't remember loving anything,
except the velvet night.

Lady Luck May 23, 2008 6:35 am

I'm pretty sure I've never posted this old one here before, lol.
The main character in this piece is a guy, so I'll dedicate the poem to all the single boys on the blogs who are still looking for a special lady

Lady Luck

Lady Luck came knocking
upon my tragic door,
but I nearly didn’t recognise her
as we’ve never met before.
She just dropped by to tell me
that good things
are on the way.
I say "bring it on sister,
let’s get on with it today!"

I think I like this lady
who’s a stranger at my place
and she is quite a beauty
with such a lovely face.
She has a way about her
I really find appealing,
so I hope there’s nothing bad
that she is still concealing.

I ask her if there’s Hell to pay
but she says her gift is free.
Then I wonder if she’s single
and if she’d fancy me.
Now, wouldn’t that be good fortune,
if I could make this lady mine?
So I think I’ll take a chance
and try my luck this time…

WHERE ANGELS SLEEP

Down the path, through the gate.
Daylight waning, growing late.
Shadows danced, about to creep
into the place where angels sleep.

Dearly beloved, carved in stone,
there I stood, on my own.
Minutes passed without a sound.
Damp earth cold on hallowed ground.

Time goes by, till footsteps fall,
I saw the gypsy, heard her call.
She looked at me with wary eyes,
caught her breath and then she sighed.

She shivered, blinked, and looked around;
darkness soon would be unbound.
Nothing stirred that dreary place,
and there she gazed with weathered face.

She found her courage, becoming bold,
curious to see what would unfold.
I asked to hear of future days,
to use her gifts, her mystic ways.

She wanted coins, a worthy trade,
but her hope of that began to fade.
I gave a promise, she took the token,
and so the truth was to be spoken.

She grasped my hand, saw the signs,
read the secrets in the lines.
The gypsy cried at what she spied,
and knew at once that I had lied.

She spun around and tried to flee,
desperate to get away from me.
I caught her quickly; remaining calm,
I smiled at her, and closed my palm.

She looked at me with growing dread,
holding the secrets that she’d read.
Her mind recoiled. She began to weep.
She’d looked too far, seen too deep.

She prayed the Lord her soul to keep,
and I left her there...
where angels sleep.

Ok, so......... I suck at Backgammon
(I've been playing online)
But I will learn and strive and conquer.
And when I've finished with Backgammon, I'll move onto
the world

Storm in a teacup May 16, 2008 4:22 am

STORM IN A TEACUP

My summer garden is perfect bliss,
and a world of trouble is far from this.
While I sit under an azure sky,
the day just seems to drift on by.

But a storm is brewing in my teacup.

On the grass, my dog is sleeping,
while in the shade, a troll is creeping.
He makes his way to my bright flowerbed,
stands there grinning, then he said,
"I don’t like you"

Feet start stamping; the flowers are falling.
His behaviour is quite appalling.
I call him names and tell him to go;
but he laughs, and doesn’t want to know.

Thunder rolls above my head.

The dog looks up with lazy eyes,
glances around and starts to cry.
Then he said, in a voice of reason,
"I’m about to commit high treason,
so try not to bark when I bite you."

I think the world has gone quietly mad,
and the troll is now tearfully sad.
So he shuffles off, feet kicking petals,
and in the bed are stinging nettles.

Lightning flashes in my eyes.

My teacup falls onto the ground.
The dog gets up and walks around.
The troll has vanished back to the shade,
and the dream of daylight begins to fade.

The sky fills up with storm clouds.

I hear the growling, and turn to look,
and one mighty bite is all he took.
I screamed and yelled of things in Hell.
He wags his tail and says "farewell."

And off he runs to pastures new.

My summer garden is dark and dead,
and no more flowers will grace the bed.
The sky has turned to midnight blue,
and the storm moves on, to a new venue.

Now my teacup is cracked and broken.

WEAVING

I spend my time weaving,
alone at the loom.
Trying to make a fabric
to cover up my gloom.
But the more I weave,
the more it unravels,
yet on an on the shuttle goes
on its pointless travels.

My life is made of threads
that seem to fray and break
and mostly I find
I just weave for weavings sake.
I know my fabric is threadbare,
it doesn’t amount to a lot,
but I make the best of what I have
because it’s all I’ve got.
