More people have been killed in the name of God than any other reason. I know it would be impossible to ban all religions but if it was possible would you ban them all?

Update on my friend Lori. May 27, 2009 10:21 pm
Mood: Joyful, 251 Views
A few posts ago I told the story of my shocking revelation about my friend Lori. After 35 years I found out she is a world renowned flutist.

We have exchanged numerous emails and last Thursday we talked on the phone for an hour. Please don't get the wrong idea, she is married and very happily I might add.

I bought 4 of her CD's and I am blown away. Her most recent recordings are some of the very best I've ever heard. I'm so impressed that I'm trying to get her booked at a local college for a concert and a workshop.

Lori and I both agree, a concert here would be nice but the most important thing is that the two of us are in touch again. Who knew that a friend from 35 years ago would come into my life again. This time we are more like first cousins who really care about one another. She has brightened up my life.

I honestly think that Lori's success was not only her determination and dedication but also the fact that she is very intelligent. She is one of the world's greatest players.
My friend Lori.

What is a man without a woman to love?
Nothing.

What is the world without the sun?
Nothing.

What is a gun without bullets?
A hunk of steel.

What is light without darkness?
Non existent.

What is love without honesty and commitment?
An affair.

What is a blogger without anything to post?
Lost.

What is a black panther without stealth?
Hungry.

What is my life without you girl?
Nothing.

A Shocker For Me!!!!! May 12, 2009 8:44 am
Mood: Tears of joy, literally, 217 Views
Just for the fun of it I Googled some of my old friends from when I lived in San Diego, California. I was stationed in the US Navy. My job was a Navy musician. I lived off base so I was able to meet quite a few of the locals there.

Today when I did a search for my friends I found one of them. Here's the shocker.

Lori was one of my friends. Her very close friend Marta and I were romantically involved. Lori was a guitarist and was only around 17. One day she asked if she could borrow my flute which of course I said yes. She asked if I would teach her how to play.

This girl was incredible. I'd give her a lesson only to have her return a few hours later. "Please give me another lesson as I have accomplished what you said." In a matter of a couple of weeks I ran out of things for her to do and she was actually better than myself within a month or so.

That's when her Father and I contacted the Principal flutist for the San Diego Philharmonic. He said he wouldn't even consider teaching her but agreed to sit and listen to her play. Afterwords he immediately accepted her as a student.

Soon after my obligation with the US Navy was over and I left to return home to Erie, Pa. I never saw Lori again.

Today I googled her name and to my surprise Lori is one of the greatest flutist alive today. She has recorded several CD's with some great artists. She is also an instructor at a local University.

I'm sitting here in shock but I'm not surprised. See Lori Bell on your search engine please for more about her.

♥ May 10th, Mother's Day ♥ May 8, 2009 8:00 am
Mood: Blessed, 215 Views

Sunday May 10th is Mother's Day in the United States. Along with my Brother and his kids, we'll take Mom out to lunch at a smorgasbord.

I made her a mobile to hang in her porch area. Yesterday I went with Mom to buy some flowers, We got some petunias. I planted them in front of her porch.

Like a lot of men I like to think of myself as a tough guy. No tough guy ever got to be that way without the toughness of his Mother.

Mom's been in and out of the hospital twice recently. I think she's going to be alright for awhile now. I'm knocking on wood here for good luck.

Happy Mother's Day to all you lovely Moms out there.

A Recent Sighting May 3, 2009 7:29 am

I've noticed that a woman who used to blog here has made a return. She recently commented on two blog posts. Now although she hasn't posted a blog of her own for over a year, she has been visiting and reading other member's postings.

So friends, my question is, can you name this member?

Here are some hints.

1 She looks like this not really...just kidding.
2 She refers to herself as being a tad bit odd.
3 She really doesn't know what love is anymore. (Neither do I.)
4 She once referred to her breasts as being small
5 She's a heartbeat away from being active again.

So what will bring miss congeniality back to blogging? Anything?

Lets hear some guesses as to whom you think I'm referring to.

Just kidding. There's nothing to read, I didn't write anything.

Okay I'll write something.

I'm ill with a chest cold.

Our weather is a record high today, very warm.

The cats are in 7th heaven being outside catching birdies, mice and moles.

"Here little birdy."

March 30th 1853 Mar 30, 2009 2:44 pm

March 30th 1853 was the day that Vincent Van Gogh was born.

The image shown is Van Gogh's Starry Starry Night portrait. In honor of his birthday
allow me to print the lyrics of the popular song written and performed by Don McClean.

Starry, starry night.
Paint your palette blue and grey,
Look out on a summer's day,
With eyes that know the darkness in my soul.
Shadows on the hills,
Sketch the trees and the daffodils,
Catch the breeze and the winter chills,
In colors on the snowy linen land.

Now I understand what you tried to say to me,
How you suffered for your sanity,
How you tried to set them free.
They would not listen, they did not know how.
Perhaps they'll listen now.

Starry, starry night.
Flaming flowers that brightly blaze,
Swirling clouds in violet haze,
Reflect in Vincent's eyes of china blue.
Colors changing hue, morning field of amber grain,
Weathered faces lined in pain,
Are soothed beneath the artist's loving hand.

Now I understand what you tried to say to me,
How you suffered for your sanity,
How you tried to set them free.
They would not listen, they did not know how.
Perhaps they'll listen now.

For they could not love you,
But still your love was true.
And when no hope was left in sight
On that starry, starry night,
You took your life, as lovers often do.
But I could have told you, Vincent,
This world was never meant for one
As beautiful as you.

Starry, starry night.
Portraits hung in empty halls,
Frameless head on nameless walls,
With eyes that watch the world and can't forget.
Like the strangers that you've met,
The ragged men in the ragged clothes,
The silver thorn of bloody rose,
Lie crushed and broken on the virgin snow.

Now I think I know what you tried to say to me,
How you suffered for your sanity,
How you tried to set them free.
They would not listen, they're not listening still.
Perhaps they never will...

∉ Ode To Sappho ♀ Mar 27, 2009 4:55 pm
Mood: contemplative, 254 Views
Who was Sappho and what was her significance?

She was a Greek lyrist who lived in the 7th century. She spent her life studying art on the Isle of Lesbos. She was married and spent time traveling throughout Greece.

She was called a lyrist because her poems were performed with the accompaniment of a lyre. She wrote her own music and was an innovator of a new kind of poetry.

She was a mentor and educator to her female students. She wrote poetry reflecting her compassion and feelings for her students.

In the last century Sappho had become synonymous with woman love that two of the most popular words to describe female homosexuality--lesbian and sapphic came from her existence.

Plato appointed her as one of the muses. Her works are not available because only one remains in full. Enough is known about her that many famous poets give her credit for her influence.

Hers was a fascinating life and I've only scratched the surface of her interesting life.

All Hail Goddess Sappho
