Not Knowing What Lies Ahead

Scars Some years ago, on a hot summer day in South Florida , a little boy decided to go for a swim in the old swimming hole behind his house. In a hurry to dive into the cool water, he ran out the back door, leaving behind shoes, socks, and shirt as he went.
He flew into the water, not realizing that as he swam toward the middle of the lake, an alligator was swimming toward the shore.
His father, working in the yard, saw the two as they got closer and closer together.
In utter fear, he ran toward the water, yelling to his son as loudly as he could.
Hearing his voice, the little boy became alarmed and made a U-turn to swim to his father. It was too late. Just as he reached his father, the alligator reached him.
From the dock, the father grabbed his little boy by the arms just as the alligator snatched his legs. That began an incredible tug-of-war between the two. The alligator was much stronger than the father, but the father was much too passionate to let go.
A farmer happened to drive by, heard his screams, raced from his truck, took aim and shot the alligator.
Remarkably, after weeks and weeks in the hospital, the little boy survived. His legs were extremely scarred by the vicious attack of the animal.
And on his arms, were deep scratches where his father's fingernails dug into his flesh in his effort to hang on to the son he loved.
The newspaper reporter, who interviewed the boy after the trauma, asked if he would show him his scars. The boy lifted his pant legs. And then, with obvious pride, he said to the reporter, 'But look at my arms. I have great scars on my arms, too. I have them because my Dad wouldn't let go.'
You and I can identify with that little boy. We have scars, too. No, not from an alligator, but the scars of a painful past. Some of those scars are unsightly and have caused us deep regret. But, some wounds, my friend, are because God has refused to let go. In the midst of your struggle, God's been there holding on to you.
The Scripture teaches that God loves you. You are a child of God.. God wants to protect you and provide for you in every way. But sometimes we foolishly wade into dangerous situations, not knowing what lies ahead. The swimming hole of life is filled with peril - and we forget that the enemy is waiting to attack... That's when the tug-of-war begins - and if you have the scars of God's love on your arms, be very, very grateful. God did not and will not ever let you go.

Gently you enter my thoughts Like a breeze in my mind That cools and calms me. Gently to comfort my sorrow Like a stream flowing Swishing away my daily woes. You came into my life Like a feather falling freely from the sky A gift from a bird just passing by, You are the gentle gift of the feather My feather friend Thank you for being there again and again.

Why Women Over 40 Are Better!!

60 Minutes Correspondent Andy Rooney (CBS)
As I grow in age, I value women over 40 most of all. Here are just a few reasons why:
A woman over 40 will never wake you in the middle of the night and ask, 'What are you thinking?' She doesn't care what you think.
If a woman over 40 doesn't want to watch the game, she doesn't sit around whining about it. She does something she wants to do, and it's usually more interesting.
Women over 40 are dignified. They seldom have a screaming match with you at the opera or in the middle of an expensive restaurant. Of course, if you deserve it, they won't hesitate to shoot you if they think they can get away with it.
Older women are generous with praise, often undeserved. They know what it's like to be unappreciated.
Women get psychic as they age. You never have to confess your sins to a woman over 40.
Once you get past a wrinkle or two, a woman over 40 is far sexier than her younger counterpart.
Older women are forthright and honest. They'll tell you right off if you are a jerk, if you are acting like one. You don't ever have to wonder where you stand with her.
Yes, we praise women over 40 for a multitude of reasons. Unfortunately, it's not reciprocal. For every stunning, smart, well-coiffed, hot woman over 40, there is a bald, paunchy relic in yellow pants making a fool of himself with some 22-year old waitress. Ladies, I apologize.
For all those men who say, 'Why buy the cow when you can get the milk for free?', here's an update for you. Nowadays 80% of women are against marriage. Why? Because women realize it's not worth buying an entire pig just to get a little sausage!
Andy Rooney is a really smart guy! "A strong woman has faith that she is strong enough for the journey... But a woman of strength has faith that it is in the journey that she will become strong."

Small Pleasures in Life Do Add Up

The first time I tied my shoes on my own. Feeling the wind in my hair. Finding out it was me that got the job promotion. Receiving a gift I had my eye on for my birthday. Surviving the white water rapids of the Snake River without a scratch. Waking up late for work, only to realize it was Saturday. Coming home to a surprise party with most of my friends there. Remembering the last embrace my mother gave me. Sitting in a meadow just listening to the sounds of nature. The first ride on my bicycle without my dad holding on to the back my bike. The peaceful sound of nothing in the sky while I soared over Palm Springs. Hearing my son cry for the first time. The excitement of catching my first fish. Cooking dinner and someone else did the dishes. Finding an old love letter I forgot about. A friend calling me, just to hear me laugh. Watching my son take his first steps. Owning my first car. Camping at Yellowstone, with the clearest starry night one has ever seen. Flying an antique Steerman biplane in the front seat. My son sharing his life’s accomplishments to me. Gazing out from the mountaintop to see the canvas of autumn colours. Hearing from a friend because they missed me. Being first in line, for once. Receiving flowers for no reason. Hearing, “I love you” from someone that I love.
What are some of the small pleasures in your life?

Sometimes still Those empty thoughts Ricochet in my head; Like a bullet. It can wipe out your dreams. Empty echoes come back And dreams fade away. So, I stand again and gaze at the stars tonight Smiling. Feeling the river of love for myself Silencing the empty echoes of my heart.

Let me float out to sea Ride the tide Lift my anchor Release me! You have no idea, do you? Where did the days go when I felt my feet on firm ground Not so far below? Now tears fill my sky I'm getting all wet Let the tide take me Just trying to forget.

When Love is Not Enough

It is the simple things I miss The strands of your hair flowing through my fingers I can still hear the sound of your voice comforting me Or the echoes of laughter only we shared. It is only you that is holding my shattering heart But love is not enough. Seagulls singing overhead as we walk on the beach Holding hands as we race away with waves We climbed to the mountain tops together We were on top of the world! Only you have been to my secret color canyon. With the warmth of your skin against mine I can still smell you near me Why? Why, I ask you? Why is love not enough?
