| Oh What a Day |
May 16, 2008 9:06 pm 607 Views | I have muscles in places I'm not supposed to have muscles....and they hurt. I'd like that massage now, please....any offers? My pedometer says I walked 20,000 steps in one day. I'm not sure I believe that...but....we'll see what it says tomorrow.
So...got up a bit late...about 8:30...not too bad...and my sis called and asked how my "project" was coming. Well...hmmmm....it would be coming better if I had hauled my butt out of bed an hour ago.... She asked if I wanted to go to Montpelier with her...but I stuck to my guns and decided I needed to work. Silly girl.
Cleaned the living room until it was immaculate. I love it that way. And then I went out and decided to conquer the riding lawn mower. In the 13 years I've owned it....I've only been allowed on it once...and at that time...you could read the little captions on each shifter. Today...I had to figure it out. So I did.
It took me a little while to learn to shift without doing wheelies. I did not know lawn mowers would do that. It took me almost that long to build enough confidence to mow in a higher gear. By the end of the evening...I was in the top gear and going in circles around the back yard. No....not big circles to mow....little circles to have fun. Lawn mowers go really fast. Did you know that? Well....really fast for a lawn mower.
The lawn is mowed...and so is the back forty...and it doesn't look anything like having the perfectly straight lines Mer would make...but I love it and I did it myself and I lived through it. Score one for the girl.
I ended up at the hardware store three times today....I found out I have no tools left. I am just livid about that and slowly sorting through all the receipts from just the past year to find out what I should have. I suspect I'm going to own what he left here...because I'm not giving him any of it back until he returns my stuff. I couldn't believe I could only find one pair of pliers....my drill bits....in MY toolbox...a couple of hammers...a few scattered screwdrivers...and that's it. So....new wrenches, new electical testing equipment and cutters and pliers, a rotary lawnmower to get the corners and in between the lilacs, parts to fix my swamp coolers....and home again, home again...jiggity jig.
Spent a fair bit of time cleaning all the stuff that needs to go to the dump off my front porch. Mer was supposed to make a dump run before he left...but didn't. Fortunately...in a couple of weeks a friend will help me haul it all off for the annual spring clean-up...in exchange for my helping him. I'd really rather not have a dishwasher and stove in my front yard...you know?
Then I learned how to pound old nails out of wood. That's actually not so hard once you learn to hit the nail squarely and hard. I salvaged a fair bit of wood from the kitchen demolition....which wood was also sitting on my front porch irritating the snot out of me.
Then I hung the housings for two of the light fixtures out front...which was a bit more difficult...they are pretty awkward to hang on to while you use the hammer to hang them. I started tearing down the remaining drywall around the third fixture....but I ran out of energy.
So...finish removing the drywall, hang one more light fixture...finish cleaning and repairing the swamp coolers....sweep and wash the front and back porches....and I need to figure the wiring for the light fixtures out. That kind of intimidates me. I'm a little bit worried about me and electrical stuff.
Ronda is supposed to come over tomorrow to help put Elsie away....she ended up buying a new car today....and the bird breeders are sick so I'm not going to Pocatello until next week. Hopefully she'll show me how to do the wiring for the lights. I think that once I see it done....I'll be less intimidated...but....that's something I'll have to find out...hmmm?
Oh yeah...and I need to move a bunch of wood to get to the wood for my soffit....but I'll do that tomorrow too....assuming I can move.
Do you know how much it hurts your inner thighs to bounce around on a lawn mower? Or your ankles to go up and down a ladder? Or your shoulders and upper arms to swing a hammer? Holy crows....I can't believe how much it hurts. And dirty? Heck...I think I bathed in dirt. So....we're off to get a shower....and a good night's sleep. I'm whipped....aren't you? | |
