I remember the ground of women that long day ago that planted the tree. It seemed pointless reverie, our task to fill what men had cleared. We sunk our arms dirt-deep and plied the earth, fingers never again so free, to make a cradle-hole. It took hours for the men, and we watched the path-grown tree (an obstacle) be killed in inept spectacle. But our dig was ritual with circle song and messages buried in the mound. And the tree in its sack came to root and though my daughter mourned the tree, I know she felt it, too – the magic in the maypole…our home beyond the path. Peace .. elaine67 |

I am trying to imagine the scene. was the maypole confusion that came after. Oh my! What a mess. No one went the right way. But it was loads of fun and joy. Peace .. elaine67
