My girlfriend told me she was going to live every day as if it were her last. I told her I thought it was a fantastic idea. That way we could share our love more intensely each day and come to know just how much we meant to one another. We’d be able to experience every moment anew and marvel at the multitude of opportunities for joy that the world can offer. It would revitalise our relationship and lead us to appreciate not only the moment, but also how life is built from a series of moments, which, if properly valued and cherished, link the past to the present and the future in a kaleidoscopic spectrum of wonder and delight. I gazed into her soft blue eyes and stroked her perfect alabaster cheek, overwhelmed by happiness. I realised I was the luckiest man alive. She said that wasn’t what she meant. She said she’d already sold the house and had bought a one-way ticket to Rio. She was leaving and she wasn’t coming back. And with that, she left.

That was months ago now, but every night, just before I crawl into my cardboard shelter, I look at her photo and shed a single tear. To think that she spent her last day so far away and all alone. She must have loved me very much to spare me all that pain.

Cardboard shelter?

You were lucky. We lived for three months in a paper bag in a septic tank. We used to have to get up at six in the morning, clean the paper bag, eat a crust of stale bread, go to work down t' mill, fourteen hours a day, week-in week-out, for sixpence a week, and when we got home our Dad would thrash us to sleep wi' his belt.

She found me. I was working as a speed bump as part of the local
traffic calming campaign, and as she drove over me one of my ribs
punctured a tyre. We fell in love on the way to hospital.

Is the girlfriend permission request process a long one?
Are there forms to fill in or do I just hold a poll?

It must be a nightmare living below Christ. What does
your friend do when he throws all night parties for the
apostles and tax collectors and prostitutes? Bang on the
ceiling? It must be difficult to complain, especially when
his dad's paying the rent. That's the problem with being an
only child, you get spoiled rotten.

well, you know how bureaucracy goes, some processes may get lost and never be found unless there is a special motivation ... but you are still young and can wait
it is not really a problem living below him, at least he did behave well the week I stayed at her place. The only trouble was for me seeing him during the nights, floating over the mountain like a ghost
