Happy Birthday to me (again).
gowerboy 4/22/2008 11:31 am
I was going to write a post. Then I saw the time. So I'm off to the pub in a bit, but before I go, here's a blurry photo of Van Gogh's "Sunflowers" taken in the National Gallery in London, just before the nice lady came over and pointed out to me that I'd end up in the Tower if I tried that again. I said I was actually trying to take a picture of the blonde girl in front of the painting, not the painting itself, but the blonde girl heard this and came over to see what was going on. Things were getting a little tricky at this point, so I apologised and said that it really was quite a crap photo anyway, both of the painting and the blonde girl, and would it be alright if I just got my coat and left. While the nice lady and the blonde girl were arguing over whether they should call the police or the men in white coats, I slipped away.

If you haven't enjoyed this story, then you probably won't enjoy Happy Birthday to me. Written exactly a year ago and detailing my meteoric passage from obscurity to oblivion, further updates can be found in every blog post since then. It ain't pretty.

Oh, and thanks to everyone who has already wished me a happy birthday. You know who you are, so I'll save your blushes by not posting your names here.

Thank you, and good night.

Obscurity to oblivion. Sounds like a fun trip. I've spent many a Saturday night on that train.

Funny story GB. Oh and Happy Birthday!!

James

Enjoy the ride. All you take with you when you leave is the experience.

I'd go with the men in white coats. The padded cells are much, much comfier, and you can count all the stitched grids on the wall.

Not that I'm speaking from experience, mind.

(So, did you get a marmite cake like Misty suggested in Brucey's blog?)

I'm dyslexic. I scream Ho Dog instead of Oh God in the throes of passion.

How long did it take you to learn Japanese, lemur?

As big a fan of Marmite as I am, a cake would be overdoing it even for me.

Padded cells are okay. I find the jackets a little uncomfortable, though.

It's sorted. We burned the bar down.

Nope. you probably got off easy Gower. Museums and gallery owners do not like when people take photos of the artists work. They worry about people copying the painting and copyright infringement, that sort of thing.
I was just in a gallery yesterday and talking to a galley owner who said he emphatically does not allow people to take pics of the things he puts up on the walls.

which is his right, I suppose, some person could go home and copy that painting or sculture and then not feel the need to buy it. Artists only make money if they sell a painting or their art works.
Have you ever been to the Louvre?

Most works of art in the major galleries already appear on the net,
so it's not copying they're worried about in their case. It probably
has more to do with security.

The best thing at the Louvre for me was the Venus de Milo.
