*click* I turned the tv on

a man stood in an Iraqi hospital
with a bundle of rags in his hands

*click* I changed the channel

a woman stood in a US hospital
with a clipboard in her hands

*click* I switched back

the man was given a cardboard box
but it was too small

*click*

the woman was asking another
equally gorgeous doctor
which of her two boyfriends
she should choose

*click*

the man had started crying
great heaving sobs

*click*

the woman was crying too
but decorously

*click*

the man was given a bigger box
and he laid his dead baby inside it
and collapsed

*click* I turned the tv off

I don't know what happened to the woman
I don't really care
she was only acting
and at least she had a choice

Of course you see it on these shows all the time. It just never had meaning to me until you described it that way.

Fortunately for your muse, and probably for us, it was a hospital soap opera on the other channel and not, say, a Real Madrid soccer match.

But at least here, in the USA, we have a coffin called "soccer apathy" that is more than big enough to contain David Beckham's fame.

Back on point: What you've attempted in this piece is to be admired, from a writer's viewpoint. It's sure not easy, but you've come closer to pulling it off than I'd even dare try.

It was the end of a documentary on Iraq. As the man left the hospital the narrator then told how the man's second child died the next day. I don't know how people survive such things.

I'm still not happy with it, but I'd hacked it about so much it was in danger of falling apart at the seams. The final version is so much like the original draft I wonder why I wasted so much time on it.

And I know exactly which episode you're talking about, with the money. Sadly, I do watch Grey's...and the way she came about to that money...I cried...lol it was sad! Pulled at my little heart.

I was going to say read the book instead, but seeing the divergences between historical events and the soap royale that is The Tudors it would be pointless. It's not quite as bad as Braveheart, but then, not much is.

Sometimes it is so cruel when you realize that all that you can do to the world is nothing but merely stare.

The different implications of the 8 "clicks" well present the cardiogram of "I" in front of the TV set that morning.

(What I like best about Gray's Anatomy are how the interns' treat their patients, how keen they are to learn and face challenges. As for their complicated romantic relationship, that could never be nailed down, or there would never be any chance for the next season to come up. )

One historian identified more than a dozen errors in the opening couple of minutes of the film, ranging from the clothing to the regional setting. The narrator's voiceover is also completely wrong in its historical analysis. The English king was not a pagan and did not claim the Scottish crown. The rest of the film continues in the same vein, various historical characters who never met being welded into a Scottish Robin Hood fable.

It was done in collusion with the local papers, building up the tension days beforehand with stories of UFO sightings and strange lights in the sky. When the people realised they'd been duped after the radio broadcast, they rioted. Six people died, including the radio producer's wife.

We've had a week of floods, but the sun's out again now.
