It may take you two minutes to read this, but if you do not take the time to read this you are one of the people this post is talking about.

You stay up for 16 hours

He stays up for days on end.
_________________________

You take a warm shower to help you wake up.

He goes days or weeks without running water.
__________________________

You complain of a "headache", and call in sick.

He gets shot at as others are hit, and keeps moving forward.
__________________________

You put on your anti war/don't support the troops shirt, and go meet up with your friends.

He still fights for your right to wear that shirt.
__________________________

You make sure you're cell phone is in your pocket.

He clutches the cross hanging on his chain next to his dog tags.
__________________________

You talk trash about your "buddies" that aren't with you.

He knows he may not see some of his buddies again.
__________________________

You walk down the beach, staring at all the pretty girls.

He patrols the streets, searching for insurgents and terrorists.
_________________________

You complain about how hot it is.

He wears his heavy gear, not daring to take off his helmet to wipe his brow.
__________________________

You go out to lunch, and complain because the restaurant got your order wrong.

He doesn't get to eat today.
__________________________

Your maid makes your bed and washes your clothes.

He wears the same things for weeks, but makes sure his weapons are clean.
__________________________

You go to the mall and get your hair redone.

He doesn't have time to brush his teeth today.
__________________________

You're angry because your class ran 5 minutes over.

He's told he will be held over an extra 2 months.
__________________________

You call your girlfriend and set a date for tonight.

He waits for the mail to see if there is a letter from home.
__________________________

You hug and kiss your girlfriend, like you do everyday.

He holds his letter close and smells his love's perfume.
__________________________

You roll your eyes as a baby cries.

He gets a letter with pictures of his new child, and wonders if they'll ever meet
__________________________

You criticize your government, and say that war never solves anything.

He sees the innocent tortured and killed by their own people and remembers why he is fighting.
__________________________

You hear the jokes about the war, and make fun of men like him.

He hears the gunfire, bombs and screams of the wounded.
__________________________

You see only what the media wants you to see.

He sees the broken bodies lying around him.
__________________________

You are asked to go to the store by your parents. You don't.

He does exactly what he is told.
__________________________

You stay at home and watch TV.

He takes whatever time he is given to call, write home, sleep, and eat.
__________________________

You crawl into your soft bed, with down pillows, and get comfortable.

***

He tries to sleep but gets woken by mortars and helicopters all night long.

***
__________________________

You sit there and judge him, saying the world is probably a worse place because of men like him.

If only there were more men like him

If you don't support your troops well, then don't repost, it's not like you know the men and women that are dying to preserve your rights.

I salute these men and women who allow us the freedoms that we so richly enjoy. I can't imagine living in some of the other countries who don't experience those freedoms.

OOOooorah!

Oh boy.... I find it very difficult dealing with this kind of thinking when put as either this/or that.

It comes under a variety of names: false dilemma; black/white thinking. In this case your argument boils down to: either you support the troops or you don't. The issue is far more complex than this type of thinking would presume.

Those who object to the war, object because they believe it was started under false pretenses. But that said, as an individual, my heart goes out to those in the armed forces for having to fight in a battle that should never have been started in the first place. When the soldiers finally return home, will they be ignored as the Vietnam Vets were ignored? That concerns me.

You make all sorts of assumptions ie " you sit there and judge him" assuming because someone doesn't support a particular war, that they judge the soldiers. I suspect many people can figure out the difference between the soldiers and the policy makers who have placed these men and women in such danger.

I'm curious--what rights are they fighting to preserve? Who passes the legislation that removes certain rights?

My heart goes out to those who serve their country and face trials and tribulations everyday, that we can't even comprehend.

I don't agree with the war per se, but I also know that the media is fed what they give us, and we only see maybe a quarter of the truth.

I will say a OOOOOOOOOOHRAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH for those men and woman who go to fight for their country no matter how misguided some of the reasons are that their country has for being there...

War is a terrible thing, and it is necessary, and in our nature to wage it. But to agree with it? hell no.

Just my thoughts.

OOOOOOOOooooRAHHHHHHHHHHHHhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh to the people who have done without so that I might have the leisure to type this on this day.

oooorah?? oh yes, i know that is the marine word that has many meanings, but all of these soldiers are not marines. my soldier was army, and i even had a sailor for a bit. i do not say oorah to these men and women. i say thank you. thank you for standing up for what you believe in. thank you for fighting a war you might not have believed in, but respecting yourself and doing your job. thank you for stepping into the shoes that many others do not want to fill. thank you for protecting our country to the best of your ability. thank you... it could go on and on. and i know that many of these soldiers will deny it, but they all are heroes.
thank you for being my Hero.

Misty,

WHAT are you thinking? The entire post IS about supporting the troops, NOT the war. There's not one single iota of soliciting any support for this war, or any other conflict.

It DOES mention those who disagree with or complain about the war by BLAMING it on the troops, I'll admit. But, it does NOT say this or any other war is a good idea!

I received this same email a couple of weeks ago. ALL it asks is support for the troops.

Our military does NOT make policy, but they are called upon to be the instrument OF that policy. They deserve 100% of our support. If we have a problem with their ASSIGNMENT, then we need to talk to our respective governments...NOT our military.
