Red Rover was one of my favorite childhood games! Red Rover, Red Rover, send Andrea over! As soon as your name was called, you would deduct the weakest people on the other side, run with all of your might towards them and try to break through their arms. If you broke through, you brought someone from that team back to yours. If you didn't, you had to stay on their side! It was great!
I also loved kickball, dodgeball, whiffle ball, four square. I didn't really like duck, duck, goose...it always made me nervous! haha
I wish we could still take time out to play those games. I think it would provide a bunch of much needed stress relief!! I also wish they made sit-n-spins, hippity hops and big wheels in adult sizes! How fun would that be?
Any favorite childhood games you wish you could play today?

You may need to borrow your nephew and some of his friends. I'm sure they would love to play these games with you. It could also be fun to organise and picnic or something in the summer and get the adults playing again. I enjoyed murder ball and floor hockey as a kid. Red Rover was a sure way to get injured for me because I would always give it my all to keep the person from breaking through and my wrist and hand would suffer. Saw a couple kids end up with stitches over that one. Silly little kid that I was taking everything so litterally and seriously.

Yeah, Jake took mine. I played Dr & Nurse w/a little boy-friend when I was about 7 or so...and--a sidenote--he died when we were in our senior year! Very sad. He had leukemia. We weren't going out then-but it sure was a shocker.
Wow--didn't mean to bring it down a notch!!
I also loved playing volleyball in my friend's backyard. And, one of my other friends and I used to go up to the school every evening and play tennis...Good times...
But-these really aren't "kid" games, are they? I had these things called "romper stompers"-does anyone remember those? I also loved my roller skates! And of course, my bike!

I loved Dodgeball and Red Rover, Hmm I think I am going to build a sand box. Want to come over and play?
You can play Barbie Construction queen. While my GI Joes get all in a bunch over her.
Hmmm sounds allot like work to me.

Rush - with heads up, seven up, seven kids stood at the front of the room and the rest of the class put their heads down on their desks and put their hand in a fist with their thumb sticking up. If someone (one of the seven) came by and put your thumb down, you had to try and guess who it was, and if you guessed correctly, you took their place at the front of the room and then you did it all over again! I forgot about that one! And what about Ghosts in the Graveyard? Did anyone play that?? I didn't like that too much!

great topic andrea!
in Africa we played elastic...a kind of weird game where you jumped into elastic bands tied around other people's feet and you did weird little hops and jumps. it was cool and cheap entertainment

I remember romper stompers and super slider snow skates. I had a pair that I used once at 26 going downhill in a forest no less. A tree stopped me nicely. Played Dr. once too but unwillingly and felt totally yuck after. Kids always wanted to play that. I never wanted to play. Could handle a round of it now though.

Red rover was one of the best games growing up, but does anyone know if the winner is the only one that stands alone or what?
