I think root to the belief of being reborn comes from the understanding that we are physically 'recycled' in the food chain. When we die, part of our physical being contributes to the existence of another lifeform and so on. I'm not convinced that we are spiritually reborn throughout multiple lifetimes. How could you top your current form if that was the case?

Ever seen the movie "Defending your life?"
If you didn't pass your life.., you went back down to Earth.
Funny.

It's possible that we are somehow intertwined, and that we are simply the eyes of the Cosmos.

Sure Dani, more it is!

The fundamentals of life are circular. In other words: you eat, you live, you die, you get "eaten", the other lifeforms that eat you get eaten, you eat the things that eat them. ok simplistic and imprecise, but fundamentally sound.

Not very romantic or pleasing to think about is it? That's why scholars, teachers and all other forms of educators have used story and analogy to get the message across over aeons of time. There is purpose in this, if you are told that the ending of your life ends everything for you, you will fear death; if you believe that you will be reborn according to your conduct (as a warrior, purity, faith or whatever) there will always be hope. Not so good to fear the inevitable, despair kills society. Further, it teaches us that we should not waste, because ther is another level that depends on us and we in term depend on them in some way or another. Also we learn to understand that our death does not end the contribution that we make to the existence of the world; in fact, as universal top predator it is just the beginning.......for others.

Misty, I'm with you

Nia,
There may be an explanation in the theory of what is referred to as, " race memory". Studies have been done using those now infamous Canadian white mice that show an indication that memory can be passed on from generation to generation through DNA. Example: Placing a mouse in a maze time and time again to where the mouse learns the maze and has it ingrained indelibly into its memory. Then allowing the mouse to mate and have offspring. Then the offspring are placed in the same maze, for the first time, and it goes through the maze as if it knows the route already. Stuff like that. I believe that in certain susceptible people this can and does occur. It's not "their" past life that they are sensing, but that of a distant or not so distant relative. The same could be said for the fear of falling or being hit by an object etc. Animals gain their instincts from generations of learning through hardship, what to instinctively avoid and draw near to. Even when deprived of a learning environment, somehow they know. Example 2: A mouse was placed in a room with colored buttons. One was green, one was red and yet another one was blue. The blue button rang a bell and dispensed a food treat, at the opposite end of the room, if pushed. The other two dispensed an electric shock. The same experiment was then done with the offspring and the offspring went for the blue button first and then to the food treat as if it knew to do so. There may or may not be anything to this theory, but it would explain a lot if true. I offer it up for your consumption
As always, I bid you peace.
Bill

I can say that through my own experiences I cannot doubt that I have had many past lives. So I will say that I am -1000% sure of the past lives that I have had. I remember some and had help finding some of the others. I still have to look into it much further.
One story is of my husband, we felt very close right from the moment we have been together. Over the years we had many tell us of our past lives together and that we were true soul mates. The both of us had felt that deep connection without words spoken. This is a quote from a book written by Jess Stern "True memories are not of the mind and body but those that remain forever written on our soul". We will all ways be together no matter what lifetime we are in.
All the people that are close to you now in this life-will be close to you in your next life, but the gender can change and relationship as to whether you are father, mother, son or daughter and so on.
This is part of my journey and what I believe to be my truth.
Take care
Sylvia

You may want to look into this further, sounds like a real chill up your spine. Don't under estimate your imagination-it just might be real. Most people would just soon not even talk about this, but when you mentioned this I had to reply. Don't doubt your thoughts on this one. We sometimes get just glimpses of the past through music or places, this sounds like you were there. You may want to look into your past through a person who knows or regression work or past lives or hypnosis. If more people paid attention to all that they see, they could over come some of there phobias or fears. Most would just look at the logic end of things, think past that and use your imagination-see where this could take you. You have had your eyes opened to another way of looking at things. Try work on the third eye and opening yourself up to the whole other world around you. I know this sounds a little far out-but so what do you have to lose?
Take care
Sylvia

Dani asked if I believed it possible..
No, as an engineer, I'm programmed to be way too analytical for that. I am however, able to agree with Bill, I had forgotten all about that. Clan of the Cave bear, interesting.

Ask and you shall receive!!!!!!!
There are many authors out their and on the subject of past lives-reincarnation. I have much more to learn and read on many aspects of the spiritual world around us. I have only just begun on this path. About your dreams-sometimes things come to us as messages from other souls-(your Angels) and faces change and so does the overall appearance's. Try and put your feelings first before logic from the brain tries to figure it out. Some dreams are of things yet to come, some dreams are of conversations we have with other souls. Since you are much more relaxed when you sleep and the logic part of the brain is in slow mode, other souls can speak to us easier and we are more willing to receive those messages. You might want to try other forms of communication with yourself--like meditation. In this world what I have come to realize in a very short time-their are no coincidences --everything happens for a reason and as it should-no accidence either. On a soul level you have been many places before, now as a human you are reliving them all over again.
Something to ponder on from a country girl living in Ontario.
Take care
Sylvia

Yes I likely lived in the roaring 20's. I would not place much importance on the past though since now is all we've got and it distracts people from their work of the now making them entirely unproductive.
