Rabid musings

Yip the old grey matter is ticking over rather rapidly and I meander back to the Politcal groud at FF. What constitutes patriotism and when does it cross the line to plain old bigotry?

This bleeding heart liberal is learning lots reading the political security blogs. I think I understand a little more about the politics of the USA. Little bit... I mean a smidgen. But I also read ramblings of people who use their knowledge and intellect to justify their bigotry. Sorry guys but this is my opinion and I have read most of your board.

When would we ever recognise that we are all on this planet together? Surely we all striving for the same thing? Or am I once again smoking my socks? Is tolerance alot to ask for or to respect anothers religious beliefs?

I converted to Judaism and I did it out of my own choice yet I am judged for it. I make comments about religious tolerance and well the response was interesting to say the least.

Mandela fought for a country that all South Africans could live in together. He spent 27 years in jail for this dream. When he was released he showed the world in action what forgiveness really is. He is a loving and nurturing Grandfather to this country. He was at one time regarded as dangerous and a threar to this country. Nelson Mandela has shown us all that anything is possible.

"I wanted South Africa to see that I loved even my enemies while I hated the system that turned us against each other."

I do believe he achieved just that.

Am I a liberal just because I don't discriminate. I would like to believe that each person has his/her own merits.

I understand that the American people are faced with a threat of attack each day. But are they any different to any other people livig across the planet.

Surely the Iraqis feel the same? Look to Africa and you will find a few countries that live this way as well. Is feeling threated a reason to justify bigotry?

I do believe that some people use this forum to voice just that. It is a good excuse to debase others from homosexuality, religion etc.

John Lennon wrote "Imagine" a real dreamers song. Imagine no borders, no religion. Yes I do imagine and dream and believe we can achieve just that.

Where there is hope I do believe any dream is possible.

Hi Eileen, No I am not against Americans at all. I am just expressing my concerns and my opinions as well. But reading what some people are saying on the political post is that all Muslims are terrorists. They ARE brushing everyone in a particular religions as that.

Israel has been under attack for many years and protecting yourself is your right. Israelis have been living with this threat for many years and with tight restictions suicide bombers still kill people. That is their reality and their set of problems.

I do believe that it is one sided and as someone said to me they have the Koran and the Bible if I have questions. Their religion is being attacked in that political page.

I do not condone what has been done in the USA and I do understand that you are under threat. I voice my concerns as I do believe there is always a different way.

Mother Theresa said she would rather go to a peace rally than to a anti war rally. The latter is just a waste of time and does not change the situation.

I do think that what people have said on that page is bigotry and these were merely my observations and who knows I may be wrong as well.

But I do believe in the impossible because it beats the alternative.

I admire Nelson Mandela and his heart of gold. There are many people of this world that learned from him, he has such a powerful force within him.
The dream only has to start with one person and the power in those thoughts.
I believe.
Take care
Sylvia

Hi Sylvia, I agree with you that it only takes one person to make a difference.
