I broke the lawn mower today. How do you break a lawn mower? I'm a bit...disconcerted and disappointed in myself. It was too hot to mow the lawn Thursday night, but I was a little....frustrated...so I went outside and mowed the front yard...and about a quarter of the back 40...I ran out of light first...but that didn't stop me cause I was still working through everything going on in my head. When I punctured my shoulder on a lilac bush....I decided I should probably stop....but I kept going until I ran out of gas. Surprisingly....when I got up this morning...it looked pretty good for being mowed half in the dark. Not sure I'd repeat the experiment....but it served its purpose.
I started on the side this morning, and I got a good part of it done...when I targeted a particularly....tall cluster of weeds and grass around a pole back there. Next time I see a tall cluster....I will be walking it first. I didn't realize that it was on a pretty good size...and strangely shaped hill. I hit it going...well...at a fair clip....and somehow the lawn mower got high centered. That sucked.
I got it off the hill....but I must have done something not good underneath it...cause it will shift into different gears....but it isn't going anywhere. I'm not entirely sure how you get underneath a lawn mower to look at what you might have done....but I'll figure that out tomorrow.
You'd think I'd stop with breaking the lawn mower....but I'm a pretty stubborn cuss. I decided I would paint the mailbox. I'm so sick of that standard ugly gray style. So....I finally figured out how to get it off the pole....and I painted the pole a lovely shade of green. The mailbox....well...I painted that sun yellow. Then I went out and masked off the pole and painted a spiralled dark green down it. I haven't untaped it yet to see if I got the barber pole effect I wanted. I suck at painting things. The mailbox? I couldn't live with the yellow box on the green pole....so I stripped it...and tomorrow I'll paint it dark green with cool flutterbies on it. I bought a stencil for the flutterbies...I meant it when I said I suck at painting. Give me time...I'll figure it out.
It's a darn good thing there's not homeowner's association here...I would soooooooooo be in trouble.

Beware the Fairy!
Lots of lawn mowers have a "sheer pin" within them to prevent major damage to anything else in the motor if you hit things. The problem, however, is this sheer pin is usually impossible to replace without a major disassembly (requiring a trip to the shop where you bought it - to avoid warranty issues).

Arreana...(Wonder Woman,)
The Lawn Mower... You probably popped off a belt, then again, the blade(s) might have hit something hard, in which case you might have bent the shaft that turns the blade(s). Maybe it is what FeuDesAstres is talking about instead/too. Just thought I'd let you know of other possibilities.
Painting... Nobody really sucks at painting, Arreana. It's like anything else. It takes practice. The more you practice, the better you get. You have the drive and determination so I know everything will come out just nicely! You might want to give the paint job a final touch, (after you finish the job and everything looks great,) with a good couple coats of clear shellac or clear paint, to protect the paint job you did. The harsh winds of winter have a way of stripping off new paint sometimes, especially since you are going to put flutterbies on it for decoration. The clear coats of shellac should protect it well. Shellac dries hard and protects for years.
Have fun sweetie! Tom

Wow, I couldn't imagine breaking the lawn mower unless it's like your car and you try putting the pin in the wrong hole while your painting your nails. Who knows you might figure it out tomorrow and bet you'll get it right.

Hey girl, sounds like you know what you're doing to me. At least you didn't 'think' you broke it only to discover the next day it was just out of gas. *ahem*
I have NO idea who would do such a silly thing.

Did hubby get his little red wagon fixed or is he still waiting for me to come tackle that little job?
The two of you crack me up.....but at least YOU pass on my naughty comments honestly and don't make up fibs about it.....lol....I'm so going to have to fix a certain fibber I know.....

It's about 12 years old...no warranty issues...lol...my boss is coming over later in the week to take a look at it. We're thinking that I lost a belt one way or another. Or shall I say...we're hoping....

Motor runs, blades engage and mow, I can shift gears...it just won't move. Such a pain in the backside, too....I need to get the backyard mowed.
I'm serious, Tom. I suck at anything artistic....suck, suck, suck...and practice only makes it suck worse....
Good advice on the shellac, though. I haven't finished the mailbox...and haven't gotten any mail...and I could get used to this...lol...

...While painting my nails? Excuse me? lol....what nails? I've worn them down to the tiniest little stubs of nail tips...and those keep breaking from all the stuff I'm doing. So....you put the pin in the wrong hole while painting your nails....and I'll go back to breaking the heavy equipment...lol....
Men can be so silly....

If I hadn't had to gas it up before I could mow....I might have done that, too. Honestly....there is no such thing as silly....there are lessons to be learned. Lesson learned...lol....

lol at This is my brain on life.
Hubby would be delighted if you were to fix his little red wagon, just remember he did say he would run pretty darn fast!
I think B just enjoys the silliness of the conversations he catches us having! It makes him laugh, honestly I don't think he believed there was anyone as nuts as me...and then along came you!

Like I said, from underneathe somewhere, you probably just popped off a belt. Sometimes when you push a lawn mower to do what it usually doesn't want to do, like going through thick brush, the belts sometimes pop off and you have to put them back on again, and remember to go buy a new belt to replace the old belt, just in case it keeps popping off and is worn or wearing out.
If you keep that suck, suck, suck attitude, you'll never have that artistic ability that I KNOW you have deep down inside! Do the best that you can, take a good look at it, enjoy it, SMILE BIG, then shallac the sucker! Give it at least 3 good coats, but don't put it on too thick, the drips and runs really look icky!
