Finding True Happiness
Sweetnsassygurl 6/29/2008 7:07 pm
This is a repost from 03/17/2007.

I believe there are two types of happiness.

Outter Happiness (temporary)

Comes from people, places and things. We feel happy when we have special people in our lives (family, friends, that 'special someone' ). Places..going somewhere special or different can be exciting and bring us happiness. Purchasing or having material 'things' is a form of happiness.

Inner Happiness (True happiness)

Inner happiness comes from within ourselves. Being happy with who we are, our accomplishments while striving to become better people...self acceptance.

I believe without inner happiness our outter happiness is short lived. We need inner happiness to achieve life long happiness.

When we are feeling down, upset, or any other negative feelings it is all too easy to seek out a bit of outter happiness. This is where 'shoe shopping' (or any other 'thing' ) comes in....buying something to pick us up. We might choose to go somewhere, a vacation or somewhere different to help us through our mood. Or spend some time with family or friends who will try and help us. These are the outter happiness, while it might work at the moment, it is a temporary 'fix' for current feelings. The GOOD feeling is short lived and we are still left to deal with the unhappiness.

Achieving inner happiness is crucial to live a healthy happy life.

Some Key points to happiness......
~Positive thinking!
~See the good in things...there is good in everything if you choose to take the time and look for it.
~Self esteem....inner confidence, believing in yourself~~Be proud of YOU.
~Self respect....accept yourself the way you are while still striving to become a better person. Do not allow others to disrespect you.
~Appreciate.....appreciate all you DO have, all your positive qualities.
~Enjoy the simple things in life
~Dream...always have a dream to keep you motivated and focused in life. Dream BIG, dream small....just DREAM.

Feel free to add to the list if you have some input.

One step in finding true happiness is as easy as changing our attitudes and thoughts from negative to positive. Sounds easy doesn't it?? This takes time, patience, persistance, accepting our 'slips' ....moving forward when we fall back into our old ways.

Change is a life long experience. Conquering our fears and making the changes we need in our lives is crucial to our inner happiness. Once we are truly happy with ourselves then the outter happiness is more likely to be lasting.
This can apply to relationships. A relationship will have a better chance of survival if both people have achieved inner happiness BEFORE they become a couple. We can not look for a relationship to COMPLETE us (make us happy)...it will not last!

Just my two cents on happiness. Hope you are having/had a wonderful weekend.

-----------------------------
Happiness cannot come from without. It must come from within. It is not what we see and touch or that which others do for us which makes us happy; it is that which we think and feel and do, first for the other fellow and then for ourselves.

Helen Keller

This past week was spent getting out there in the sunshine, walking, hiking, swimming, a elementary school graduation, going to the waterpark, a 'downtown day'...lunch out and a trip to Beacon Hill park, trips to the lakes, and demos/fireworks! Active, exercise, spending time with family....some of the simple pleasure of life which create long time memories.

Hopefully I will find a little bit of time to come and catch up with you all! Take care of YOU!!

P.S.
This is a picture of Beacon Hill Park, I didn't take it as my cell phone/camera is too full of stuff....time to clear it out and get more pics.

You are soooooooooooo right about so much of this.... One thing that makes me a tad cross, is when I read/hear others thinking that when they find their "soul" mate, then they will be happy. I think that is a terrible burden to put on someone else--that's why I have so much trouble with the phrase: You make me happy. No I don't. You make yourself happy--I might just add to it. Don't make me responsible for your happiness.

I would add living a life that is integral to your core beliefs. And being honest with yourself about those beliefs.

PS Beacon Hill Park in Victoria??

Wishing you happiness

Misty

I agree with you Misty. Expecting someone to MAKE you happy isn't fair to your mate.

Yes thats Beacon Hill in Victoria.

Thanks SL. We have had a ton of really great weather here. Supposed to get some showers later (maybe)...hoping the rain holds off over this weekend coming up.
