Isn't your landlord violating the law? I wish you'd asked him to put his proposal down in writing so you had proof, but I seriously doubt now that he'd do that, especially since he found that loophole. He'd most likely deny trying to increase your rent to above what's legally allowable.
This is going to be a knock-down drag out fight. Can you afford consulting a lawyer now just so you know what all your legal options are before you make any further move, or maybe the rental board offers free legal consultation?
I'm dyslexic. I scream Ho Dog instead of Oh God in the throes of passion.

OMG! Have you spoken to a Lawyer? He obviously sees the increases in the economy and costs to him and is trying to pass them along to lessen their impact upon his life. You could try contacting all of his other renters and see if combined you could do something. Perhaps there is a temporary housing solution available for the short term. In any case just ignoring it won't do, you are right about that. In the long run you should probable move, as he will make your life difficult if you find a way around it. Start searching just in case in any event. I hope everything works out Bill

Into Every Life by Christopher She looks into air, herself falling rain Dripping coldness past, memories old pain.
Drops fall, the puddling her damp water-life. Spiraling a mirror, self-lonely strife.
A sigh, one frown, crying soft saddened tears. Storms of remember - through bleak yesteryear.
Clouds a-whorl, dark sky sheltering fair heart. But how can she joy, while taking no part?
Cov'ring cold soul, corona of defense. Defying the stab of her fate's intents.
This is madness, she thinks in plaintive cry. I'm here, on the cusp, of lay down and die.
What my destiny, but an empty-off dream? A plaything with which gods and angels scheme.
Am I doomed then to live, time never-free? Subsumed wholly 'neath life's scattered debris?
Is justice, outside this torrential doubt? Perhaps more than sorrow, painful fall-out?
Is love, perhaps, just a sliver of sun? Shining through mists, revealing Avalon?
Personal paradise, which I can own, Evoking happiness, hither unknown?
She raises from streets of lonely no more. Light slicing through darkness, hopes washed ashore.
Her withered gait now straightening with pride. She glides like an angel 'cross future's tide.
Belief in life renewed, no, only found. Footsteps echoing, a cadence of sound.
Caressing the ground, sing the beat of her heart. Into the sun seeking love's brand new start.

LIFE: THE UNFINISHED BUSINESS From the Book - Poems of Life
The acts of men sometimes come so kind And with such love do well express, yet The deeds of men sometimes come so mean And with great disgust is well despised. These conflicts unresolved for times, Someday, somewhere resolves to meet.
Between the times of history gone, And the evolutions of future come The present presents a balance point In a mixing grill of settlement, where Deeds and events do take their toll In resolutions of investments made.
Mishap could be just a fair reward, As life fortune is investment gained. Opportunity could be just a means, As occurrences are results obtained. The pendulum swings to and fro, Just as the clock ticks, tock and tick.
What goes on around and again, Does come back again and around Good or bad, it's all our choice, For all our thoughts and acts today, Are investments in the big game plan Of this unfinished business of life.

Life Is A Vacation At birth we started a long vacation Some vacation becomes too long Some there duration very brief Whether long or brief we still vacate
The schedule starts at infancy Some schedule are tight and others very loose However we accomplish only what's destined
On this vacation we climb mountains And make a descent of valleys These are the contours of life For it is filled with ups and downs
Life is a serious vacation Where success and failures combines Where some turns out wise And others remain perpetually foolish And another category remains on the fence This the vacation of life

WHAT IF LIFE?, 12-08-02 By B. Allen, Woodcrest Dr. 37745
What if life only lasted a day, Do you think we'd appreciate it better? What if life was like hell, Do you think we would dream? About a life like we have now? What if in life we had everything, Do you think it would get boring? Why want another life? Your life is perfect already

If life where the wind We would travel the ocean We would understand the seas And every moment, If life were the wind We'd always be flying Life would blow by without us knowing Where would time go? Would there be such a thing? We would enjoy every moment From a higher perspective

The Brand New Day by LesA47 At dawn, through my opened window, I gazed upon a breathless, And heart-stopping sight.
On the horizon in front of me, Appeared an aurora of mystical lights, Reflecting deep into the cavities and, Ridges of the surrounding mountains.
Before me shown the early light, Penetrating the morning mist, As it caused perpetual golden rays To illuminate through the highest Mountain peaks, Awakening the earth below.
As I peered closely, Brilliant colors of light Stretched upward, Like fingers on a hand Into the yet, dawning sky.
Oh, as I gazed at this precious sight, Time itself seemed to be waiting, And wanting to grasp hold of The first beams, that would burst forth From the East and to witness, The suns smile beckoning "The Brand New Day. "

Life is Beautiful! To those who see with loving eyes, life is beautiful.
To those who speak with tender voices, life is peaceful.
To those who help with gentle hands, life is full.
And to those who care with compassionate hearts, life is good beyond all measure.

You suppose you are the trouble
But you are the cure
You suppose that you are the lock on the door
But you are the key that opens it
It's too bad that you want to be someone else
You don't see your own face, your own beauty
Yet, no face is more beautiful than yours.

Never Let Go of Hope
One day you will see that it all has finally come together. What you have always wished for has finally come to be.
You will look back and laugh at what has passed and you will ask yourself, "How did I get through all of that?" Just never let go of hope. Just never quit dreaming.

He found a loophole. I have a couple possible loopholes but feel its best to keep 'em quiet.
This is going to be a knock-down drag out fight. That it is! If this was only affecting me I would walk away and chalk it up to experience. It involves my kids and forcing changes on them which they aren't looking forward too. That pisses me off the most the disruption in their lives.
The rental board has hearings to uphold the rental laws, basically a mediation. I have no worries with taking it to that extent.

Whoa. I feel like I oughta post a poem or two or twelve here. Anyway...
Glad to hear you have a couple of loopholes up your sleeve. I think you're right that if you give in to the landlords demands he will pull more nonsense down the road. Sounds like either he has himself in a bind and is trying to make you help him get out of it or he is just greedy and with the escalating cost of housing figures he can get more.
Enjoy the ride. All you take with you when you leave is the experience.

Lol, one poem would have been enough eh? Takes ALL kinds!
He is DEFINATELY not in a bind. It is simple greed and trying to get his own way at the expense of others. I am sure once the board hears his name they will recognize it right away.
