1. where is he standing : Its probably a podium (like the ones we have on a fashion show).
2. what's between his legs at the bottom: Probably a keen media journalist photographer trying a closeup shot for his news.
3. Waist band having stood the test of time: That's precisely is fashion, just like the denims we get on the market these days that looks like rags.
