one world, one love, one community This day in History in 1989 saw former Prime Minister FW de Klerk. Opened all South African Beaches to ALL RACES
South African Beaches were opened to all people across racial lines. He further promised the scrapping of the seperate amenities act of 1953, which prevented the sharing of public facilities such as parks, buses, etc. The law had been used to bar non - whites from parks, swimming pools, civic centres, libraries, public transportation.
Many beaches, including those in the City of Cape Town had been quietly integrated.
In August of the same year, an attempt by blacks led by Archbishop Desmond Tutu and other anti - apartheid leaders to use two whites only beaches outside Cape Town ended in a violent confrontation with Police.
All beaches became multiracial in 1994, in consistent with "Our goal to eliminate apartheid)
The apartheid regime came to an end in 1994, when South Africa was declared a democracy.
