Attorney Raja Rajeshwari becomes the first Indian American to be a Judge of New York court.

Chennai born Raja Rajeshwari,43, becomes the first Indian American to be the Judge of a New York court. She came to US when she was 16, at a time when girls of her age were married off; now an assistant district attorney at the Richmond County Attorney office is nominated to be the Judge of the criminal court in New York city by the Mayor. Besides her legal acumen, she is an accomplished Kuchipudi and Bharatnatyam dancer who continues to perform in Indian temple events with her troupe from Padmalaya Dance Academy, named after her mother Padma Ramanathan.

Congratulations Attorney Raja Rajeshwari, now Justice Raje Rajeshwari. Best of luck.
