100 years of Christmas truce of 1914- World War I - Did Germany and Britain play football???

Did rival German and British armies turn the World War I killing teams in to football field? The story of the improptu football match during the 1914 Christmas truce of the First World War has been widely publicized. A number of organizations have used the tale for educational purposes but historians remain split on whether the even actually took place. The story goes that on December 25, 1914 , both German and British forces laid down their arms and weapons, took part in the game of football, which was dubbed as The Christmas Truce.

A century from the first Christmas of that great war, there has been a rush to commemorate one of the most iconic moments in British military history. The clearest recollection of the famous match reported to have occurred came from Ernie Williams, a former soldier in the British. During a television interview that was recorded in 1983, he claimed that he took part in the match Wulverghem.

But a good sportsmanship indeed....
