ICE BUCKET CHALLENGE in Modi's style : Indian Prime Minister Modi's SWACHH BHARAT way...


As announced earlier, India's Prime Minister Narendra Modi, despite being back home some hours before from a 5-day hectic trip of US; kick started ' Swachh Bharat ", a clean India people's campaign coinciding on the Birth anniversary of Late Mahatma Gandhi.
This "MY CLEAN INDIA" programme is in line with keeping public health as one of the priorities of Modi's government. Modi promised that he will wipe out the image that India is one of the dirtiest countries in the world; with 52% of the population not having toilets at home; there by people are forced to go for nature's calls to outside places. Modi reiterated that it is a blot on the society and started with "Clean India" campaign.

Modi reminded people that Gandhi had a vision of "Quit India, Clean India" with only the former thing achieved. So he took to the streets of New Delhi, with broom and dust pan; joined by millions country over that includes President of India Pranab Mukherjee in West Bengal where he is camping; besides governors, chief ministers, ministers, officials, business community of India Inc; above all the people. The President said governments alone can not maintain cleanliness and referred to how in socialist countries like Vietnam and Cuba, people join cleanliness movement. He recalled that the 3rd of the committments of UN Social Summit of 1995 was making every country make environment clean.

Over 600,000 villages and cities have been chosen now in the first place for this drive, with a 5 year targeted schedule. This non political movement driven by patriotism aims making India clean by 2019, the 150th Birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi. A pledge was administered 'that they would not litter in public places and keep 2 hours a week or 100 hours an year to clean public places and toilets.

Taking a queue from the Ice Bucket Challenge, Modi chose 9 people which include Tendulkar, Mukhesh Ambani, Baba Ram Devi, Salman Khan, Priyanka Chopra, Kamal Hassan, Shashi Tharoor, Mrudula Sinha and team of Hindi serial Tarak Mehta ka ulta Chasma, challenged them, seeking each to nominate 9 to this movement; which in turn go viral. He hopes that this chain works wonders. Why not, hope so....
