DAY OF PARTING : India's PM in US on his last day of visit- September 30, 2014.


GOOD MORNING INDIA.

Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi on his last day of his maiden US visit as PM is all set to have a second meeting with US President Barack Obama in his Oval Office. A second such meeting is rare as it is customary to complete discussions in a single meet; which in it self shows how much importance the present regime of US gave to Modi's visit.

Modi started his Tuesday, the September 30, 2014 paying a visit to the statue of Mahatma Gandhi near the Indian embassy of Washington; with cheering Indo-Americans greeting him on both sides of the road, with 'Bharat Mata ki Jai". He offered floral tributes to to Gandhiji. Among those accompanied him were India's External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj.

Meanwhile, the much awaited joint editorial (Op-Ed) of Modi and Obama for Washington Post is out which says that the true potential of our relationship has yet to be fully realised to benefit citizens. Both reiterate on the renewed Indo-US partnership for the 21st Century, with this unique natural ties helping shape up international security and peace. This mutually rewarding agenda promises a better tomorrow. The ;partnership between business, scientists and governments can help Clean India programme, sanitation and hygiene. It ends with words " CHALEIN SAATH SAATH.. FORWARD TOGETHER WE GO"

At 12.32 PM local time, Modi drives in to the West wing of the White House through a US military guard in black sports utility vehicle, with India and US flags flying from the fenders. Both Modi and Obama had one-on-one meeting, followed by a delegation level meeting. The talks centred around bilateral ties on energy, defence, security and infrastructure development. US would lead to develop smart cities in Vizag, Alhabad and Ajmer. WTO is one core issue, with India supporting trade facilitation. Terrorism challeges in SEA, new threats in West Asia, climate change, Afghanistan, civil nuclear energy, FDI etc Modi said US would be the key to India "LOOK EAST, LINK WEST POLICY". They refer to Swami Vivekananda, Mahatma Gandhi and Martin Luther King., Jr whose valuable contributions can never be forgotten. They end the meet with saying 'India-US relationship is robust, reliable and enduring'. They decide renew frame work agreement for defence co-operation for further 10 years. US to co-operate as knowledge partner for the planned National Defense University. Modi invites Obama and family to visit India at their convenient time. India- US agree for a new partnership in cancer research but India made it clear that it is not joining coalition in ISIS. Obama was much pleased with the gift a copy of "Bhagawad Gita according to Gandhi", a collection of thoughts of Mahatma Gandhi between February-November 1926.,

At 1.42 PM both Modi and Obama visited Memorial of Martin luther King., Jr which has inscription " OUT OF THE MOUNTAIN OF DESPAIR, A TIME OF HOPE ". They both look at the statue, with Obama taking leave of Modi. Now Modi headed to State department for a luncheon meet with US Vice-President Joe Biden and US Secretary of State John Kerry. Biden jokularly says " The PM is fasting and we keep taking him to lunch and dinner. Kerry said Modi could not be stopped of a rocking star welcome. Pentagon is upbeat with prospects of US-India defense ties. Mukhesh Ambani attended this dinner.

Some prominent leaders from Andhra Pradesh, of Indo-American origin, NRIs too called on Modi both at consulate and at business meet.

The last public meet of Modi's 5 day US visit was with members of US-India Business Council (USIBC), which is an umbrella organisation of over 300 companies which do business with India. Modi assures them of flexible tax laws, making a strong pitch for investment. He said 'come to India, it's a win-win situation'. He talked about Make India too. Ajay Bangra, CEO of Master Card and President of USIBC hoped that Indo-US business would grow by 5 times from the present $100 billions. Tom donohau, Chairman of US Chamber of Commerce welcomed India replacing ' red tape by red carpet. The meeting ended with all positive vibes.

Modi took off to India by air India one and on way back to New Delhi to address country on radio and take broom to hands to kick start Clean India Campaign on October 02, 2014, the Birth Day of Gandhiji. He was seen off at Andrews Air Force Base by Indian Ambassador to US Jai shankar and US Assistant Secretary of state for south and Central Asia Nisha Desai Biswal.
Modi said THANK you America and the trip is "satisfactory and successful".

Air Force One lands in Frankfurt where Modi takes a break and he is expected to reach back at New Delhi by 11.00PM India time.

Air India One flight carrying Prime Minister landed and Indira Gandhi International airport, New Delhi. This marks the end of the 5 day US visit of Modi and this blog.
