To GOLDMEDAL, THE MOST AVID BLOGGER ...>>.Of cleavages..What is the take of South African media?<<

It is high time that I write a blog about the happenings in INDIA, the BHARATH that gave birth to me and I would be failing in my duty if I don't post it in honour GOLDMEDAL; a vivid blogger who is blessed with the right caliber to pick and choose any topic in the world, post a blog to make it quite interesting, informative and appealing to all sections of society. Starting from sports to culture, traditions to Indian-ness (she never hides her Indian descent, that is exemplary), geography to science, legal to management; she has the right acumen to post a blog. Hats off to her mother in her who brought up her two sons, made them to serve the most noblest professions; one a doctor with a doctor wife serving the native South Africa and other she spared to teach Japanese, a rare gesture from a determined mother. She is a known media personality and above all am awesome-gorgeous-beautiful-attractive independent women of stature and empowerment. Given all these top credible traits; she naturally is perceived as a threat by not only men, but also women.

Having said this; I need to add a line to thank Ms Cilla (Priscilla Naidoo) who subtly reminded me that she would like to see my posts on India and NYC; that triggered this post. Having taken her queue, I thought of posting a blog on how media responds in South Africa "On Cleavages".

Coming to the crux of matter, the whole issue is centred around a tweet of last Sunday from Times of India- entertainment on celebrity actress of Bolly Wood, Ms Deepika Padukone; whose recent hindi movie "Finding Fanny" is a big box office hit. It was a top-angle shot and this tweet that screamed "OMG: DP's cleavage show" that has seen the actress. The tweet posted a pic of Deepika Padukone, the actress who worn a low cut dress designed by Anamika Khanna for the trailer a block buster movie Chennai express and tweeted. The dress came under the daily's scanner for the design, it reframed and retweeted on it. Having lost cool, the livid incensed star who mostly a social media abstainer, made her displeasure clear in a series of tweets, posting " NEWS!? YES1 I am a woman. I have breasts AND a cleavage1 you got a problem. Don't talk about women empowerment when you don't know how to respect a woman" referring to the " supposedly India's leading newspaper".

This war of words in the form of tweets drew wide spread reaction from film fraternity and others who in an unanimous tone came in support of the actress and condemned the tweeter channel, with some responses I quote here under.
""" * Media needs to be more responsible and sensitive * respected channels incitng. We just slam ourselves back in to the daek ages. * low means to attract readership * taken a stand for all of us * New low stirring up hornet's nest * women treated disgracefully by dwelling on their personal and professional lives * she said it exactly the way it should be * women treated disgracefully paging to objectivity * media pay heavily to women for sponsored stories despite.. * Put yellow media place.. it hit all time low * it is an eve teasing of different kind * idiotic, shambolic response. * nothing embarasses misogynists more than some plain speak (from Barka Dutt of NDTV) * * unaesthetic, gallery of tasteless images featuring her which are most insenstitive to outrage her modesty * women should emulate her in Taliban infested area and teach male chauvinists a lesson """

At the same time, there are few responses from backstage nay sayers who see everything with Bolly Wood tainted glass of cynicism. Some referred Preity Zinta's spat over her ex boy friend calling hers as fading star's meltdown, which some said it is a well timed stunt.

But the most interesting response came from Shobhaa De, the celebrated columnist, writer, who writes for Times of India too. She posted differently that I quote..
""" * She has a Divine bosy * It is a feisty reaction from a woman with guts and confidence not to shy away. * It is an ugly debate involving women's sensitivities, empowerment and dignity * The star should have been more sportive to 'let go' * should media rethink on posting women wearing risque outfits in public? * climbing on to moral high ... * in today's red carpet age, garments that leave little to imagination; the actress appeared in most revealing haute couture akimpiet outfit on the cover shot of Vogue earlier * Is it having anything to do with feminism? * comments as leer and peer where to draw a line? * Aamir Khan's groin or Sharuk Khan's 6 package is taken granted , why this gender neutrality? * exposes our hypocrisy, film is more than the number of lip locks.

Sensing the seriousness of the issue, to a bid to make peace, the Times of India- entertainment tweeted " It's a compliment! You look so great, we want to make sure every one know" that ended up aggravating the situation further.

This invited a serious response from the actress, I quote, " who this 'every one', is you're reaching out to? have ability to respect before complimenting'.

Complimenting a woman is a grace reserved for gentlemen.

I request you Goldmedal to come out with any instances of this kind which took place in SA and if so how media and how people responded.
