THANK YOU NEPAL FOR LETTING ME KNOW OF RHODIOLA ROSEA - THE GOLDEN WONDER.

A recent trip to Nepal ended up making my group aware of a wonder golden root plant that is of immense value in affording the much needed medicare imparted by Integrated medical practicioners. The chopper trip over the Himalayan mountain ranges covering a height of 8848 Mt (29028 ft) to view Sagarmatha (Mount Everest); though this is not my maiden experience; went educative, with the smart Captain in her 50s, with her eloquent speech explaining to us as to how the inhabitants of those vulnerable areas with least infrastructure are able to fight the odds to live through. She comes out with a startling fact of she herself wriggled out of the Pre-Menopausal syndrome (PMS) she has been reeling under quite for some time; with the root of a wonder plant Rhodiola rosea giving her great relief. This indeed stirred our interest to swiftly make a review of literature on it first thing back hotel and found amazing beneficial uses of this marvel plant. With our interest centred around Intellectual Property Rights (IPR); I quickly got in touch with Manhattan based New York University Langon Medical Centre which confirmed on the uses of the plant's root. Hence I decided to post a blog on this, taking inspiration from one of the active bloggers Kavitah of Singapore who has shown interest to blog on alternative medicine and so a BIG THANKS to her, as I fail in my duty if I don't thank her.

Legendary history dating back to thousands of years has shown that in 77 AD, the Greek Physician Dioscorides used the root of Rhodiola rosea, a perennial flowering plant for gaining physical strength and endurance. Sensing this, Chinese emperors sent expeditions to Siberia to bring back this plant and ever since it has been widely used under the name " HONG JING TIAN " to prevent high altitude sickness. This plant is native to cold arcitic regions of Europe, Siberia, Alaska, Soviet Russia and Asia, with Ladakh area calling it as Solo.

Given the high medicinal potential of this plant; vast research has been undertaken world over by researches including Chris Kilham, popularly known as Medical Hunter who is known for his pioneering work on botanical herbs. Huge documentation is published on the research findings which reinforce the medicinal uses of the root of this plant. The Defence Institute of High Altitude Research, Govt of India has been taking active interest in working further on it. The sum of these findings indicate that this plant has 140 chemical and phyto active compounds which produce the positive effects, which are listed below.

* It is immuno-modulatory helping in enhancing immunity levels * it is adaptogenic helping one in high altitudes from low pressure and low oxygen levels * it is antifatigue increases mental performance in burn out patients with fatigue syndrome * it helps in detoxification * helps in weight reduction * increases sexual functions * improves energy levels * it's unique radio protective activity mitigates effects of gamma radiation, can be used when bombs of biochemical warfare kind are employed * in depression, schizophrenia, fibromyalgia as it impacts central monoamine levels * helps in recouping during aggravated cardiac stress * Norway and Siberia use it as tonic herb to cure even cancer,, cold, flu, while Iceland treats it as new Ginseng..

A classic case of 64 year old woman Juliett Bergman who was in World Trade Centre, NY when it was bombed both in 1993 and 2001 who suffered for long with post-traumatic stress disorder pushing her into depression , with no medicare bailing her out. But she got out of this dramatically with the use of this root, with her fatigued body turning energetic, her depression lifted and vitality enhanced. Similarly Dr Patricia L. Gerbag, MD has been using this root as 200-400 mg per day dose to treat women down with PMS and menopause, reeling under a variety of manifestations that include brain fog and found total success with it.

Though US FDA is still to approve it as a pharmaceutical drug, it has wide acceptance; with some products like Vitacost's Rhodiola 500 mg capsules doing good business with Amazon at helm. It is an ideal replacement for those looking at Ginseng, Ashwagandha, Resishi suna etc

While the world of today shows no signs of slowing down; every one can bolster their ability to respond to daily stress, both mental and physical by opting for this herb that has vast potential and found a lasting place in the cupboards of forward thinking consumers of today.

A MODERN DAY SANJEEVANI?
This herb can end the quest for Sanjeevani the mythical herb that gave renewed life to Lord Rama's brother Lakshmana as per epic Ramayana.

Sorry for all kinds of possible mistakes.
