LATEST from the National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) RE: Oscar Pistorius Judgement!

Oscar sentence: NPA to appeal?

21 October 2014 6:43 PM

This morning in the Pretoria High Court, Judge Thokozile Masipa sentenced convicted killer and Paralympian Oscar Pistorius to five years in prison. Pistorius was sentenced to five years for culpable homicide and three years, wholly suspended for the Tasha’s shooting.

In a conversation with Xolani Gwala this afternoon, National Prosecuting Authority Spokesperson, Nathi Mncube admitted that the organization was "not happy" with the initial judgement of culpable homicide handed down by Masipa.

Citing their dissatisfaction with the initial ruling Mncube suggested that the authority would be looking into an appeal.

“We at this point in time will have to go back and study the judgement, and of course do research to see if there are grounds for appeal, within 14 days. We would have to study the law very carefully, to see that if we take this matter forward are we going to have the law by our side? It is not a question of sentiment ... we have to be guided by the law.”
— NPA Spokesperson Nathi Mthethwa
