A bit about, Vibrations
Sound is produced by a certain pattern of vibrations in the air. When a metal is struck, it vibrates and in turn poduces vibrations in the surrounding air.we then hear the sound.
The tonal value of a sound depends on the type of vibration,metals being very flexible produces a ringing sound.The vibrations of metallic objects is the basis of many musical instruments like the sitar and the violin which use strings - or the saxophone which uses a sheet.
