Close encounter with Nepal Earthquake

The Earth quake in Nepal has been a big Natural calamity. The extent of damage is yet not known fully. Hope the country recovers fast .I had a close encounter with this calamity.

My colleague and his wife were scheduled to visit Nepal this morning. He called me around 10 30 am from Airport and we discussed some pending issues as I am also scheduled to levae the country tomorrow. I was in my office wrapping up things when around 1 pm my wife called me to inform that there has been an Earth quake of Scale 8 in Nepal .

I immediately tried to contact my friend and his wife but no response. The entire close friend circle and office staff got worried. Ladies started praying. Around 3 pm a SMS was received saying that they are safe and returning back to Mumbai from Lucknow. Uffff that was a Big relief. This is what actually happened.

Their Jet Airways Fight to Kathmandu ( International ) took off at scheduled time of 11 am. At around 12 15 noon the Commander announced that visibility at Kathmandu is very poor and they are diverting to Lucknow. It was very thoughtful of the Commander to make such an announcement as the fight had some 20-25 Nepalese Citizens and he obviously did not want commotion on board while in air.

They landed at Lucknow and then the Commander announced about the massive Earth Quake in Nepal. This news broke the Nepalese on Board. I sigh of relief for other passengers. The Nepalese were frantically trying to make calls but no one succeeded. Sad , a very pathetic scene on Board. The aircraft was refueled and after about 1 1/2 hour it flew back to Mumbai. .

We are celebrating today my colleague's safe return but my heart goes to all those who have suffered or for those who do not yet know the fate of their families and friends in Nepal .a

In Sunny's Blog I commented that Even our Gods can not prevent such calamities but Gods keep some people safe. I sincerely hope for the well being of our friends from FF - Rani and Bikramaditya. I am sure both are safe and sound.
