Kat stopped to lie down in a shady corner of her backyard. It was late afternoon and peaceful. Not a solitary cloud disturbed the sky above, not a whisper broke the silence – as she gazed upwards to admire the delicate expanse of infinite possibility which spread out above her. A warm summer breeze sprang up from the west, gently ruffling the lace trim of her linen sundress and tugging playfully at her hair. A few locks managed to escape, tendrils of rich brown cascading softly to her shoulders like a waterfall. All at once a feeling of drowziness, heavy and deliberate .. came to rest upon her eyelids. A sensation so powerful and unwavering – like some inimitable force she was powerless to resist.

Curled up and relaxed under the shade of a willow tree, Kat felt secure. She had closed her eyes for only a minute .. and yet almost instantly, sleep fell upon her. Shifting landscapes and vivid colors entwined themselves in swirling patterns – until the world she knew began slipping away .. bit by bit. This (she thought to herself) is how Alice must have felt when she fell down the rabbit hole, waking up only to find herself lost in the crazy UN-reality that was Wonderland.

As her dream evolved, she could feel the warmth of ocean currents rising up to meet her .. carrying her gently into the land of dreams .. wind swept waves ushering her along as they crashed against her imaginary boat .. foaming white caps serving as sign posts in the gathering dusk. The last rays of the setting sun shone like melted gold, reflections of amber and burnished copper filling her eyes, blinding her momentarily to the world around her. And when the sun slipped quietly below the horizon and there was nothing left but herself and the restless, churning waves, she saw him .. and her heart skipped a beat.

He stood there all alone on the distant shore, staring out across the Arabian Sea .. a look of longing and such indescribable sadness transforming his rough features in a way that made her ache inside. She wanted to go to him .. to enfold him in her arms and ease the worries from his mind. She knew he was waiting for her .. just as she knew instinctively he might as well be looking right through her. The dream keepers did not allow him to see her. How desperately she wished for a bridge that could span the distance between them. Looking at him now she could see the toll it was taking on him to endure this separation. It was killing them both to be so far apart and yet Kat knew she only had to hold on a little while longer. Time would bring them together again .. on some distant shore in some distant universe where sun dappled mountains gave way to unforgettable evenings drenched in vanilla twilight.
~~ Isabella

The stars lean down to kiss you
And I lie awake and miss you
Pour me a heavy dose of atmosphere
'Cause I'll doze off safe and soundly
But I'll miss your arms around me
I'd send a postcard to you, dear
'Cause I wish you were here

I'll watch the night turn light blue
But it's not the same without you
Because it takes two to whisper quietly
The silence isn't so bad
'Till I look at my hands and feel sad
'Cause the spaces between my fingers
Are right where yours fit perfectly

I'll find repose in new ways
Though I haven't slept in two days
'Cause cold nostalgia chills me to the bone
But drenched in vanilla twilight
I'll sit on the front porch all night
Waist deep in thought because when
I think of you I don't feel so alone

I don't feel so alone
I don't feel so alone

As many times as I blink
I'll think of you tonight
(Tonight, tonight, tonight...)

I'll think of you tonight

When violet eyes get brighter
And heavy wings grow lighter
I'll taste the sky and feel alive again
And I'll forget the world that I knew
But I swear I won't forget you
Oh if my voice could reach back through the past
I'd whisper in your ear:
"Oh darling, I wish you were here"
