Diwali Festival

I got this info and pic on my mail from India today and would like to share them with you. They came just in time to brighten my mood on a grey, cold and wet Saturday of 9*C/50*F. Unbelievable, last weekend people here were on the beach and even in the sea water. Such a shocking drop of temps...

But obviously I won't stop whining the whole winter, so let's read the pleasant part:

Festival of lights...From Darkness unto Light...!!!! !

Deepawali or Diwali is certainly the biggest and the brightest of all Hindu festivals. It's the festival of lights (deep = light and avali = a row i.e., a row of lights) that's marked by four days of celebration, which literally illumines the country with its brilliance, and dazzles all with its joy. Each of the four days in the festival of Diwali is separated by a different tradition, but what remains true and constant is the celebration of life, its enjoyment and goodness. Historically, the origin of Diwali can be traced back to ancient India, when it was probably an important harvest festival.
The illumination of homes with lights and the skies with firecrackers is an expression of obeisance to the heavens for the attainment of health, wealth, knowledge, peace and prosperity. According to one belief, the sound of fire-crackers is an indication of the joy of the people living on earth, making the gods aware of their plentiful state.

DIWALI GREETINGS to all who celebrate this tradition and a Sunday full of light to the rest of us

Love,

Keep love in your heart !

hi sl!

i think harvest is celebrated all over the world, just differently. here in the philippines, each province celebrates it through organized tribal dances, mardi gras, etc.

if you get too cold.. get over here and you can sun to your heart's content

enjoy your sunday!

It is indeed a pleasant part....By my repeating to two pointers:

"but what remains true and content is the celebrations of life,it's enjoyments and goodness"

The illumination of homes with lights and the skies with firecrackers is an expressions of obeisance to the heavens for the attainment of health, wealth, knowledge, peace and prosperity"...

I guess that in it self says a lot...

It is gray wet and cold here....Down to 6 grad...I plan to make the best out of it...A fine dinner of lasagna later, but before we do,we shall entertain ourselves with games, and funny home DVD'S..They make a dull day seems so alive...

I shall journey with you through out this winter and keep you warm..Your not alone...

It is the truth in man that sets him free..

Hi dear friend, I imagine how beautiful the cities in India are with all the illuminations for the festival. If only I could see this...

It has been raining for several days here and very foggy, bad for the bronchis, I'm on the verge of getting ill...No hope for better weather soon..Glad you enjoy the rain, amigo, it must be still warm with you.

Enjoy the rest of the Sunday

Hi Sweetness,
Yes, what a lovely dedication this festival has ! I like the way it is described a lot.

Lasagna is yummi...Hope you and lil man enjoyed it. I also cooked a delicious meal with aubergine and vegetable marrows. Ah, it has been raining the whole weekend...So I downloaded two films to watch - "The Ugly Truth" and "Wedding Crackers" - romantic comedies, watch them, you will like them ...But I still painfully need the fresh air, these confinement in the room leaves me short of breath.

Thanks, my friend, for making me company during the winter. Hope you don't get tired of my whining I'm very glad you're leaving for Spain in Nov

Warm hugs,
SL

Hopefully we are going to have some raise of temps the next few days...How do you feel in Sweden? It should be colder there now, ain't it?

You take care, too, Vora

I didn't know about this tradition either until I got the e-mail. It looks like Christmas with all these lights, doesn't it?... Ah, I hate all this artificial Christmas green in the shops while I watch the natural green withering in front of my eyes...I heard it's already snowing in Denmark?

I hope you find some time from work to go to a warm place for a vacation

hi sl,

mardi gras is some sort of carnival that originated in europe (not sure where, french word literally translated as "fat tuesday"). we have a local version of it in bacolod (my birth place)called the masskara festival. people wear masks and join in the dance parade. celebrated annually every week of the charter anniversary (october 19, which is this week). very colorful celebration actually. sunday i had to work but had wonderful get together with girl friends

enjoy the rest of the week,
rose
